Nnamdi Kanu drags Buhari govt, Kenya to international tribunal, demands freedom

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has dragged Nigeria and Kenya before an international tribunal over his rearrest and rendition.

Kanu is demanding to be restored to his initial state before rearrest.

The IPOB leader, through his counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, petitioned the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights over his rearrest.

Kanu said he was a free man before his rearrest, hence the tribunal should restore that status.

A statement by Ejimakor said the Nigerian and Kenyan governments must give an account of the extraordinary rendition of the IPOB leader.

‘Nnamdi Kanu didn’t jump bail, will prove how FG made him flee Nigeria’ – Lawyer, Ejimakor

According to Ejimakor: “A few days ago, I commenced a continental legal action against Nigeria and Kenya before the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights, demanding accountability for the extraordinary rendition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“Both countries also have extradition laws that prohibit this sort of reprehensible conduct that saw Kanu to Nigeria.

“Particularly, extraordinary rendition is expressly prohibited under the African Charter, where It provides in pertinent part that “A State may not transfer (e.g. deport, expel, remove, extradite) an individual to the custody of another State unless it is prescribed by law and in accordance with due process and other international human rights obligations. Extraordinary rendition, or any other transfer, without due process is prohibited”.

“A victim of extraordinary rendition is entitled to remedies mandated by the Charter.

“Therefore, among many other reliefs, I requested that Kanu be restored to his state of being before the rendition, which state of being was that he travelled to Kenya on his British passport and was duly admitted as such and as a free man.

“Further, that no valid territorial jurisdiction can issue from an act of extraordinary rendition because Kanu is, technically speaking, still in Kenya.

Nnamdi Kanu: Why DSS failed to produce Biafra agitator in court – Lawyer

“I also requested the Commission to adopt other urgent measures as the Commission sees fit in the circumstances to protect Nnamdi Kanu in the interim.

“Any nation that dabbles in extraordinary rendition has unwittingly brought impediments to her territorial jurisdiction. So, Nigeria, whether it admits it or not, has triggered a hornets’ nest that has, for the first time, brought the international legal order to bear on the matter of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

A few weeks ago, Kanu was rearrested and repatriated from an unspecified African country.

Though the Nigerian government has been silent on the country, it is widely believed that Kanu was nabbed in Kenya.

Since his return, the IPOB leader has been in custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, following an order by Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court.

On Monday, DSS, however, failed to produce Kanu in court due to logistics reason.

Against this backdrop, Justice Nyako had adjourned the matter till October.

Entertainment, Why I left Nigerian politics – Actor, Jim Iyke

Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke has said he ended his political career to avoid selling or compromising his soul.

The actor, who joined the Young Democratic Party when he began his political career in 2014, made this known during an interview with BBC Igbo on Friday.

According to him, Nigerian politics is a dirty game characterized by violence, rigging, bribery, corruption, and other manipulations perpetrated by politicians.

“I tried doing politics but what I was required to compromise was almost like selling your soul. I’m principled.

“The day my people summon me to serve, then I come out. If there’s a jungle on earth, it’s Anambra politics. It’s a different game,” he said.

The actor further said he does not want to be a puppet in the hands of any godfather, fearing that the game could consume him in the long run.

“I know that if I foray into politics, it’s either it consumes me or I get what I want.

“However, I don’t want to be desperate or have a godfather play me around like a puppet. I don’t want to stain myself,” Iyke added.

biafra : Buhari govt bombing ESN but protecting bandits in North – IPOB alleges

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of “bombing” the Eastern Security Network, ESN, in Enugu State while protecting bandits in the North.

IPOB made the allegation in response to an attack on ESN operatives in Akpofu Nkanu forests, Enugu State.

Emma Powerful, spokesman of the group alleged that ESN operatives did nothing to the Nigerian Army to warrant such attack.

Powerful made the allegations in a statement entitled: “Nigeria government bombing ESN in Enugu but protecting bandits in the North.”

According to the statement: “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to place the international community on notice of the unprovoked attack by the Nigeria Army against the operatives of the Eastern Security Network ESN in Enugu on Friday, July 23, 2021. A combined team of soldiers and security operatives were unleashed against innocent ESN operatives at Akpofu Nkanu forests in Enugu State.

“The ESN operatives did nothing to deserve this unprovoked attack. ESN has only been defending communities in the area against incessant attacks and destruction of their farms by killer Fulani herdsmen. The hypocritical Nigerian security agents have failed to protect Biafrans against the incursions by Fulani jihadists. Yet instead of allowing ESN to defend our ancestral land against terrorist invasion, the Nigerian Army and other security agencies have been unleashed against innocent volunteer security outfits safeguarding the lives of Biafrans.

“This is the height of wickedness. NIGERIA is aiding and abating terrorism. Fulani controlled federal government gives tacit support to terrorists but crushes peaceful agitators. This is wickedness and hypocrisy which God must judge.

“The same FULANI terrorists masquerading as herdsmen have for years been kidnapping, raping and killing locals in Nkanu and other communities in Biafra land until December 2020 when ESN was set up to flush them out of our forests. Now their real sponsors have come to defend them against ESN by combing the forests in the hunt of ESN operatives instead of the terrorists.

“Since Fulani herdsmen started their killing spree in Biafra land, has any of them been arrested let alone prosecuted by any security agency? Yet every other day the Army and other security agencies have been hunting for ESN like wild animals. The cowardly South-East governors and the evil political elite will still protect them. We are aware of security operatives were not ESN. The police officers were not killed by ESN.

“The criminals who killed police officers ran into the Bush where ESN operatives were staying. ESN and IPOB members were not involved in the attack against security agents, Nigeria Government and her army group of terrorists should leave IPOB and ESN alone because we do nothing wrong by protecting our people from Fulani terrorists herdsmen who have crossing Akpofu community bushes to Ebonyi State and other parts of Biafraland. We are calling on the governor of Enugu state Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to call commander 82 division Enugu to know that ESN and IPOB did not kill any police, Nigeria army and police should not hatred and envy attack ESN because we’re Igbo.”

Entertainment, Obi Cubana claims to be wealthy but road to where he buried his mum remains untarred – Uche Maduagwu

Billionaire businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly called Obi Cubana, has come under attack following his mother’s burial in Oba, Anambra State, a few days ago.

The talk of the town burial saw associates of the hospitality and nightlife king spraying money lavishly.

Their action led to suggestions that Obi Cubana and his friends made their money through rituals.

But, Obi Cubana dismissed such suggestions, stressing that his friends are hard-working businessmen.

However, Controversial Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu, has now slammed Obi Cubana for spending lavishly on his late mother’s burial.

In a post via his Instagram account on Thursday, Maduagwu said Obi Cubana’s billions were only meant for party and not for Oba development.

According to him, the road where Obi Cubana did his mother’s burial remains untarred.

He wrote, “Dear Obi, abeg did you spend half of what was SPRAYED at Oba on any of your mums #birthdays when she was alive? Hmmm… Jesus wept. Anyways, I am just a celeb, wetin I know?

“According to section 21 of the CBN act, 2007, a person who spray the #Naira risk imprisonment for a term not less than six months but why are the billionaires who sprayed money at #Obatown still walking #like kings on the street?

”Cubana oga claim to be WEALTHY yet the road to where he did his mama burial remain untarred, so many primary #schools in Oba no get roof, not even boreholes for clean water maybe his own billions na only for #party not Oba development.” (sic).
