When I started targeting long-tail keywords, I increased my search engine organic traffic to 173,336 visitors per month. You’re missing out on a lot of search traffic, if you’re not creating blog posts around longer search queries.
I encourage you to go after long-tail keywords, because they’re easier and more profitable to target. For most of them, you won’t face any significant competition.
Go to Google AdWords Keywords Planner. After logging in, input your main keyword (e.g., mobile friendly site). Then, scroll down the page to click the “Get Ideas” button:
ii). Second step: Click the “keywords” tab to reveal all of the keywords in each group:
iii). Third step: Pick your long-tail keywords from the results list, by identifying keywords with 4 or more words.
Alternatively, you can use Ubersuggest
. Copy one of the keywords (e.g., from the screenshot, make website mobile friendly), plug it in to Ubersuggest and click the “suggest” tab.
Here are the longer variations returned for our example:
1). Best long-tail keywords research tools: With so many options available, it’s important to avoid wasting time and to choose wisely.
I strongly believe that one or two SEO tools
that can generate long-tail search queries is all that you need. A commonly used keyword search tool is Long Tail Pro. It’s quick and easy and to use.
I’ve already talked about Ubersuggest, which is a great tool for finding long-tail search terms. Of course, Google AdWords Keywords Planner is my top choice, but there are others that I’ve found helpful in the past:
HitTail
: This tool will suggest long-tail keywords for you, based on a short or seed search query. This service is not free, but it’s worth the investment, if you’re serious about SEO.
KeywordTool.io
: If you want to generate hundreds of long-tail keywords from a single head term, this keyword tool is what you need. It’s 100% free and unlike Google’s own tool where you could wind up spending a lot of time pursuing results, it only requires a single click.
On the homepage, type in your main keyword (e.g., Apple smart watch), then click the red search icon:
After clicking the search icon, you’ll find hundreds of variations of your seed keyword that you can use as the basis for new long tail keyword content:
In conclusion, keyword research is a lot more than simply typing in a keyword into the Keyword Planner and downloading the results.
While digging into less competitive keywords is difficult and will take some time and practice to do, good keyword research will make your life much easier down the road.
You will get search engine traffic faster and with less effort (building backlinks) when you target the right keywords.
These keyword research methods will help you find these keywords and put your content strategy on a successful path.
