NEWS : Gov Abdulrazaq visits Jebba petrol tanker fire accident scene

 


Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Thursday, paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to Wednesday’s Jebba petrol tanker fire accident scene, describing it as “painful.”

“The incident is very disturbing and we have come down to see the extent of destruction. It’s more than what we thought.

“The inferno engulfed many houses, it affected about 43 houses,” governor Abdulrazaq told reporters after inspecting the scene.

 recalls that a petrol tanker traveling through the ancient town of Jebba in Moro Local Government of the state, on Wednesday morning, lost control, exploded and rammed into buildings, killing scores of people and setting buildings ablaze.

Governor Abdulrazaq, who was accompanied by top government officials, promised that the government will come to the aid of the victims within available resources.

He had already directed the state emergency management agency, SEMA, to verify and document the losses.

Governor Abdulrazaq said “we just need to come to the rescue of our people who lost properties, some people lost their lives, may their souls rest in peace.”

He also commended the Federal government for the infrastructural projects sited in the State, especially the dredging of the River Niger and timely completion of ongoing federal road projects.

Arsenal have provided positive updates on the fitness of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Martinelli ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Chelsea.

The Gunners have already suffered eight defeats from their opening 14 games in the Premier League.

Summer arrival Partey has been sidelined since the North London derby with a thigh problem, while Martinelli came off with a knock in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup defeat to City at the Emirates.

On Thursday afternoon, a statement on Arsenal’s official website confirmed Partey would play no part in this weekend’s encounter. But Aubameyang and Martinelli will be closely monitored ahead of the game and there’s a chance both could feature

Former Chelsea star, Diego Costa could leave Atletico Madrid in January to the west London side, according to an Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano.

The Brazilian has only six months left on his current deal and his club Atletico Madrid have already decided not to offer Costa a new deal, according to Romano.

The player could reunite with Chelsea, who face Atletico in the last-16 of the Champions League in February.

In another development, the Blues transfer chief Marina Granovskaia is said to be concluding arrangements for the transfer of Declan Rice from West Ham and Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

He has also placed seven players up for sale to raise funds to sign the new players.

The players up for sale are Antonio Rudiger, Andres Christensen, Jorginho, Marcos Alonso, Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater and Victor Moses, according to Sky Sports Italia.

Ahmed Musa could be set for a Premier League return, with West Bromwich Albion tipped to make a move for the free agent, according to West Brom News.

The Super Eagles captain has been without a club after he left Saudi Pro League side, Al Nassr.

Musa moved to Al Nassr from former English champions Leicester City on a four-year deal after the 2018 World Cup.

In 58 appearances, he scored 11 goals and got 14 assists, while helping the team win the 2018/2019 Saudi top-flight diadem and the 2019 Saudi Super Cup.

New West Brom manager, Sam Allardyce, is said to be a huge admirer of the Nigerian winger and might push for his signing with the side struggling to find the back of the net this season.

The Baggies are currently 19th on the table with seven points and a -19 goal difference.

 Chelsea legend, Petr Cech has urged Arsenal board to support their manager, Mikel Arteta, ahead of both sides’s clash in the Premier League on Saturday.

Cech, who played alongside Arteta at Arsenal, believes the Spaniard can still turn things around for the Gunners despite losing four out of their five last games.

Arteta is under intense pressure at Arsenal following the club’s recent poor performances in the Premier League.

Arteta’s side was also eliminated from the Carabao Cup after losing 4-1 against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The North London club are currently just four points above the relegation zone ahead of their Boxing Day clash against Frank Lampard’s side at Emirates Stadium.

Speaking on the development, Cech told talkSPORT: “It’s hard for any manager when results don’t go your way, and then you try to change the way the team play or the philosophy of the football.

“When you start to change a little bit, it needs time. As well to implement that faster you have to have everybody believe in it, you need some results as well.

“As soon as you are on the football pitch knowing you have won three on the bounce you don’t worry less about what’s going to happen you just worry about your game, you just go on and suddenly you go ‘oh this works, that works’.

NEWS : Ohanaeze lauds Gov Ikpeazu developmental strides

 


The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has described Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State as a rare gift to the Igbo nation.

Ohanaeze lauded the Governor for his exemplary leadership qualities which have led to full realization of people’s oriented infrastructural projects across the state.

The Igbo socio-cultural group made the commendation in a press release jointly signed by its Deputy President General, Comrade Obinna Achionye, and the Secretary General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike and issued to newsmen on Thursday.

While noting the continuous support of Governor Ikpeazu to the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, OYC hailed the quick intervention of the latter in the fatal accident involving its President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro.

According to Ohanaeze youths, this kind gesture will never be forgotten in the annals of history of Ndigbo. Igbo Youths are grateful to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
