BIAFRA : Independence Day: IPOB orders sit-at-home on October 1

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday called on Nigerians from the Southeast to observe a sit-at-home on October 1, 2020.

IPOB said the sit-at-home order was aimed at expressing displeasure over the bad governance being experienced in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group called for total lockdown on October 1.

According to Powerful: “We, the global movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to announce to all Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom all over the world that Biafrans across the globe shall observe a sit-at-home in Biafraland and where permissible in the diaspora, join our Yoruba brethren agitating for Oduduwa Republic, in public protests to mark the October 1, 2020. We, therefore, enjoin all Biafrans and every conscious Nigerian, especially those ethnic nationalities reeling from the triple double blow of state sponsored terrorism, bad governance and economic annihilation, to boycott every government organised ceremony designed to eulogize the failure that Nigeria has become. This is the time to let the world know how disastrously intolerable human existence is in Nigeria today.

“If you want to see an end to terrorism and organised mediocrity, now is the time to register your anger by ensuring that you and your household sit at home on October 1, 2020. Do not risk the life and well-being of your children by allowing them to gather in groups in the open where terrorists may find it easier to blow them up or kidnap them. There is credible intelligence that terrorist groups are planning to slaughter our children should they venture out to celebrate or march on October 1st.

“This order is to highlight our position and resolve as Biafrans that we are no longer interested in propping up a crumbling terrorist state. The leadership of this great movement in conjunction with supporters of Biafra freedom across the globe have concluded every arrangement to let the whole world know and understand that we are no longer part of this shambolic monument to terrorism and failure. As this long expired man made contraption marks her abused independence on October 1st this year, we IPOB will appropriately declare our intention towards the full and irreversible restoration of Biafra sovereignty and independence for all oppressed ethnic groups in Nigeria.

“Complete and total lockdown of Biafraland and other terror ravaged areas of the Middle Belt come 1st of October 2020 is sacrosanct, irreversible and non-negotiable! Wholesale slaughter of innocent Judeo-Christians and state sponsored ethnic cleansing cannot be going on in our land at the same time as fake jamborees are being organised by the same sponsors terror attacks,⁹ in order to deflect our attention away from the imminent danger we are all in.

“We, therefore, urge that all markets, schools and businesses in Biafraland and beyond be shut down as a mark of respect to all those who have died as a result of terrorism against innocent civilians especially Christians, ethnic cleansing in Southern Kaduna and elsewhere across the Middle Belt. Everywhere in Biafraland must be under lock for Nigeria and the world to know that we are all united in our march toward total freedom. There should be no public events or ceremonies in Biafraland to avoid any needless loss of lives.”

The Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has attacked former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, for boasting that he can bring back Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to Nigeria.

Senator Kalu had yesterday pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari government to allow him convince Kanu to stop his Biafra agitation.

National Leader of BNYL, Princewill Chimezie Richard, in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Wednesday, said that some Igbo politicians are opportunists using the name of Biafra to seek relevance in Nigeria politics.

“What Orji Kalu is saying is rhetoric, as an Igbo man he knows deep down his heart that Biafra is a spirit, kill any of us the struggle continues,” he said

“Arrest and any of us, the struggle continues. Whoever that he may manage to convince to end the agitation, the struggle continues.

“Biafra project is not funded by politicians but freewill donations by Biafrans abroad.”

He said that the BNYL will come up with a strategy on how to use their grassroots structures to frustrate erring politicians in their region.

He warned that should the politicians become a hindrance to restoration of Biafra it could lead to frustration of Igbo Presidency 2023.

BIAFRA : MASSOB renews vow for Biafra struggle

Magnus Eze, Enugu and Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has vowed not to relent in its struggle for the actualisation and restoration of the Independent State of Biafra.

The organisation was founded on September 13, 1999.

Leader of MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, who said the group was using its 21st anniversary to reflect on the plight of  Biafrans  vowed that members would “never retreat nor surrender” in their quest for an independent Biafran state.

He described the last 21 years as a long walk to freedom  for self-determination  from the “oppressive Nigerian government.”

“We have been persecuted, arrested, killed, imprisoned and traumatised by aggressive agents of federal government of Nigeria, we shall never retreat nor surrender.  MASSOB will continue to remember and honour our fallen heroes who willingly laid down their precious lives for the love of Biafra. Our members are still languishing in Nigeria prisons at Awka and Onitsha; some are still in the mortuary in Onitsha hospital.

“Our lives are dedicated to the cause of Biafra actualisation. We have no future in Nigeria because this geographical expression called Nigeria was designed by the Christian British colonial masters to enslave the people of Christian Biafra forever and favour the Moslem Arewa people.”

The group said it supported the proposed Waterways Bill sponsored by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, and  “encourages that the National Assembly should pass it into law without much deliberation. MASSOB supports every government policy, action and moves that will eventually break Nigeria and her forced marriage with unknown partners.”

“MASSOB advised President Muhammadu Buhari and his Fulani ethnic cabals not to chicken out of cowardice; they should never relent in securing all the waterways in Nigeria for the establishment and resettling of wandering Fulani ethnic tribe from other West African countries.”

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned that the continuous killing and arrest of its members by security agencies could lead to the disintegration of the country.

Spokesperson for the group, Emma Powerful, in a statement in Owerri, Imo State, yesterday, called on Russia, Germany, Australia, Israel, France and Canada to prevail on the Federal Government to stop the onslaught on perceived Biafrans, warning the trend if not brought to an end could breakup the nation.

“They must prevail on  Nigeria government to release our people abducted illegally, and also release those bodies they took away during the barbaric  attack on peaceful and unarmed citizens of Biafra in Emene, Enugu State. Nigeria government and her partners in crime must understand that the incessant killings of Biafrans and their murderous tendencies against the peaceful and innocent citizens of Biafra will soon break Nigeria into pieces without remedy.”

Powerful, however, boasted that the group can never be decimated despite its various travails in the hands of their transgressors.

“In case they have forgotten, IPOB is a global movement divinely ordained to liberate Biafra and other tribes caged in this British   contraption called Nigeria. Our resolve to restore Biafra freedom and independence is of God Almighty (Chukwu Okike Abiama)  in Heaven, a task that must be accomplished very soon.

“Just last week at Ohafia in Abia State,  they abducted Mazi Okewu Agwu from his home and many others including  Samuel Arua Eme, Kalu Iroha Amogu, David Agwu and 12 others whose names are yet to be established as  at the time of this press statement.”

The group blamed what it described as the “ignoble roles” of the South East governors and some Igbo political elites as well as the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to the  proscription of IPOB.

According to Powerful, their action could be likened to an Igbo proverb:  “When you kill your hero in internal squabble, during external fight you must remember him.”

why IPOB, MASSOB, others must stop agitation- group

A foremost socio-cultural youth organization of Igbo extraction, Igbo Youth Assembly (IYA) has called on various Igbo groups clamouring for secession from Nigeria to stop their agitation and embrace activities that sustain national unity and peace.

The call was contained in a statement jointly signed by the President-General, Ifeanyi Nwaudunna and Secretary-General, Casmir Irekamba after their virtual general assembly and made available to journalists in Owerri, yesterday.

The group accused some Igbo leaders of being selfish, myopic; and misguiding the youths into agitating for succession which according to them was not in the best interest of the Igboland.

The statement reads in part, “Nigeria as a nation and country is better united and remains as one indivisible entity. If divided or disintegrated, will lose its glory of diversity, economic, political-miltary- numerical-technical power and strength”.

“It is very unfortunate that this misguided agitation from these Igbo groups has adversely affected the peace-loving and hardworking Igbos doing their legitimate businesses all over Nigeria. So, of what basis will any well-meaning Igbo person call for secession and disintegration of Nigeria”.

It continued, “We condemn strongly the actions of those myopic and selfish “old brigade” leaders who are fraternizing with those against the unity, peace and the general interest of Nigeria in the guise of Igbo marginalization.

“What Igbos need at this moment is to strategize politically towards 2023; form strong alliances across the North and South to be fully involved in National engagements”.

The group furthered, “the threat by IPOB, MASSOB, others and their sponsors on secession are not in the best interest of Igbo people; hence such agitation for secession must be jettisoned forthwith.

“No true Igbo leader or patriot will clamour for Nigeria disintegration, but would rather seek for a united prosperous Nigeria.”

BIAFRA : Group urges IPOB, MASSOB to stop Biafra agitation

The Igbo Youth Assembly (IYA) has called on the South East groups clamouring for secession from Nigeria to stop their agitation and embrace peace.

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra and Indigenous People of Biafra are the leading separatist groups in the region.

In a statement yesterday after its virtual general assembly, the President-General of the IYA, Ifeanyi Nwaudunna, and Secretary-General, Casmir Irekamba, accused some South East leaders of encouraging youths in the zone to clamour for secession.

According to the group, the leaders are using the groups to achieve self-interest.

The statement reads in part: “Nigeria as a nation and country is better united and remains as one indivisible entity. If divided or disintegrated, will lose its glory of diversity, economic, political-military- numerical-technical power and strength.

“It is very unfortunate that this misguided agitation from these Igbo groups has adversely affected the peace-loving and hardworking Igbo doing their legitimate business all over Nigeria. Of what basis will any well-meaning Igbo person call for secession and disintegration of Nigeria?”

The group condemned the South East leaders supporting the various groups agitating for secession.

The statement said: “What Igbo need at this moment is to strategise politically towards 2023, form strong alliances across the North and South to be fully involved in national engagements.

“The threat by IPOB, MASSOB and others and their sponsors on secession are not in the best interest of Igbo people, hence such agitation must be jettisoned forthwith.

“No true Igbo leader or patriot will clamour for Nigeria’s disintegration, but would rather seek a united prosperous Nigeria.”

Our Mandate Is Igbo Presidency, Not Biafra – Ohanaeze

It maintained that its contract with the Igbo nation was to realise a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction.

The Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Tuesday said the Igbo did not mandate it to pursue the actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra.

It maintained that its contract with the Igbo nation was to realise a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction.

The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Anambra State, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, stated this at the end of the groups’ meeting in Awka, the state capital.

“We are pursuing Igbo presidency because the executive of Ohanaeze, led by Chief Nnia Nwodo, has the mandate of Ndigbo to negotiate the Igbo position in Nigeria.

“He wasn’t given a mandate for the Sovereign State of Biafra. That’s why we are saying, give us what is due for us, and Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction is what we are looking for,” a report by Punch quoted him to have said.

On deregistration of a splinter Ohanaeze group by the Corporate Affairs Commission, Okeke-Ogene commended the CAC for “throwing into the dustbin” the splinter group.
