BIAFRA : Group urges IPOB, MASSOB to stop Biafra agitation

The Igbo Youth Assembly (IYA) has called on the South East groups clamouring for secession from Nigeria to stop their agitation and embrace peace.

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra and Indigenous People of Biafra are the leading separatist groups in the region.

In a statement yesterday after its virtual general assembly, the President-General of the IYA, Ifeanyi Nwaudunna, and Secretary-General, Casmir Irekamba, accused some South East leaders of encouraging youths in the zone to clamour for secession.

According to the group, the leaders are using the groups to achieve self-interest.

The statement reads in part: “Nigeria as a nation and country is better united and remains as one indivisible entity. If divided or disintegrated, will lose its glory of diversity, economic, political-military- numerical-technical power and strength.

“It is very unfortunate that this misguided agitation from these Igbo groups has adversely affected the peace-loving and hardworking Igbo doing their legitimate business all over Nigeria. Of what basis will any well-meaning Igbo person call for secession and disintegration of Nigeria?”

The group condemned the South East leaders supporting the various groups agitating for secession.

The statement said: “What Igbo need at this moment is to strategise politically towards 2023, form strong alliances across the North and South to be fully involved in national engagements.

“The threat by IPOB, MASSOB and others and their sponsors on secession are not in the best interest of Igbo people, hence such agitation must be jettisoned forthwith.

“No true Igbo leader or patriot will clamour for Nigeria’s disintegration, but would rather seek a united prosperous Nigeria.”
