BIAFRA NEWS : Waiting for South-South to join Biafra is waiting in eternity – IBN

Owerri- The Igbo-Biafra Nationalists Movement, IBN, on Saturday said waiting for the South-South region to join the struggle for the actualisation of the Biafra Republic, would be a wait in eternity.

IBN convener, Mazi Uche Mefor, stated this in a statement to newsmen in Owerri.

Mefor argued that there were irreconcilable differences that played out during the civil war that the prosecutors of the civil war did not tell them.

Therefore, it was his opinion that the South-South should be allowed to join the Biafra struggle through a plebiscite or referendum.

Explaining further, he said: “For us, the Igbo-Biafra Nationalists and the Indigenous People of Igbo Nation for Self-Determination, we can only insist on stating the reality which is that waiting for the Niger Delta or the south-south to join Biafra struggle is waiting for eternity and by implication, waiting till all the surviving generations of the Igbo race die off. In the fullness of time, it was for the Igbo-speaking part of the south-south to decide democratically either through plebiscite or referendum to join their kith and Kin in the South-East at their own pace and in their own right.

“The fact is that there are some irreconcilable differences that the prosecutors of the war did not tell us. But now that we have dug deeper to get some insights, the solution is for the individual component nations to go their separate ways in seeking their variant versions of self-determination.”

“Between the nagging questions are: Why was the Niger Delta Republic declared in the first place, and who sponsored it? Why was the Niger Delta Republic short-lived and suppressed by the Nigerian federal government through the government of the old Eastern region? Why did the Niger Deltans subsequently join the Nigerian forces to fight against Biafra? Answers to these questions are revealing and suggest that there are irreconcilable differences, as stated earlier.

“Knowing what we know now, it is Igbo-Biafra Nationalism for the internal self-determination of the South-East or the outright emancipation of an autonomous Igbo nation-state as a last resort,” he said.
