He said, “Nigeria government must bear one thing in mind, IPOB is not fighting restructuring. We are not against restructuring but our demand is not restructuring. “Our demand is restoration of Biafra State. All we need is a date for referendum to decide whether or not we want to continue with this forced marriage (Nigeria). “Those who think Nigeria is ready for restructuring may have to think again. Those benefiting from the current lop-sidedness have made restructuring impossible. They are unlikely to heed the clamour for restructuring. “But for us, the only thing that can make us...

BIAFRA NEWS : I fought in Biafran army during civil war, says Nwodo

A former minister of Aviation and one-time Information and Culture minister, Chief John Nwodo, said he fought as a lieutenant in the Biafran Army during Nigeria’s civil war of 1967-1970. He also said when the war ended, it was a tough task for his parents to accept to send him to school at the University College, London (now University of Ibadan), present-day Oyo State, to further his studies because, according to him, it had some history with a premier of the Western region, who was Minister of Finance during the war. The immediate past President-General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, made this known during his opening remark at the 70th anniversary of the SIGMA Club, University of Ibadan, dinner held in Eko Convention Centre, Lagos. Nwodo said, “I went to University of Ibadan at the end of the civil war.  Going to UI at the end of the war was a difficult decision for my parents to support. “We were so fresh from the police action turned i...

IPOB Members Have Every Reason To Agitate – Umeh

Former National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh, says the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has every reason to agitate for Biafra Republic. Umeh made this known during an appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday. Umeh added that issues of marginalisation of the Igbos in the Nigerian polity should be properly attended to by dialogue and persuasion. The former Senator said the sit-at-home order by IPOB and the palpable insecurity in Anambra almost threatened  the November 6 governorship election in the state. Umeh, however, revealed that critical stakeholders in the region such as traditional rulers and religious leaders reached out to IPOB to ensure that the election was held. The APGA chieftain equally commended President Muhammadu Buhari for dominating the state with ...

How Zik weakened agitations for Biafra Republic - Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has said defection of Dr Nnamdi Azikwe, Nigeria’s first President from the defunct Biafra Republic in August 1968 helped weaken the agitation of the secessionists. The late Odumegwu Ojukwu had on May 30, 1967 declared that the eastern region is breaking away from Nigeria as the Republic of Biafra. The declaration however resulted in a war between soldiers of the Nigerian government and Biafra secessionists, otherwise called the Nigerian civil war. The civil war ended in 1970 after the secessionist surrendered and returned to be part of Nigeria. The late Nnamdi Azikiwe had declared support for bid by the Igbo, his kinsmen, to breakaway from Nigeria into an independent Republic of Biafra in 1967, but backed out a year later. Zik, as he was popularly known later to begin the campaign for ‘one Nigeria,’ calling on Biafra agitators to abandon their bid to break way from Nigeria.  Reminiscing on that episode on Wed...

BIAFRA : Regional autonomy, additional state best political solutions for Biafra agitation, Ohanaeze tells FG
