The American-based lawyer of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, Bruce Fein, has said he would drag the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to the International Criminal Court, ICC.
He threatened to approach the ICC over the kidnap and torture of the IPOB leader in Kenya before his extradition to Nigeria by security agents.
Naija News recalls that Nnamdi Kanu was reportedly ‘abducted’ in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria to face trial on treason, incitement and other crimes leveled against him.
Justice Binta Nyako had ordered the continued detention of Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, but with access to his legal team twice weekly.
However, the pro-Biafra activist lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had more than twice accused the secret police of stopping him and his team from seeing the IPOB leader.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja today, Fein accused the federal government of committing crimes against humanity.
According to the US-based lawyer, the abduction and torture of Nnamdi Kanu was a violation of his rights.
“Among other institutions, I plan to visit the International working group on arbitration that sits in Geneva. It is an arm of the United Nations and is a human rights council,” Fein said.
“We are going to pursue all these on legitimate platforms in the international community to make it clear that anything that transpires regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s case is fully in the sunshine; it would not be clouded.
An example of the concerns that have been raised in the proceedings so far is the gross violation of international laws. First Nnamdi Kanu’s kidnapping is a violation of international law. His torture before returning to Nigeria is a violation of international law and denying him access to his counsel is a violation of international law.”
