Wright will play a young African woman battling Ireland's asylum system in the drama from Irish writer-director Frank Berry.
Two of the U.K.'s biggest rising names are teaming up on a new feature.
The Hollywood Reporter understands that Letitia Wright, the BAFTA-winning star of Black Panther and Steve McQueen's Small Axe film Mangrove, and Josh O'Connor, the God's Own Country breakout who recently landed a Golden Globe for his much-lauded portrayal of Prince Charles in Netflix's The Crown, are to star in the upcoming Irish indie film Provision.
Provision will tell the story of Ishtar Deresse (Wright), a young African woman fleeing persecution who ends up spending over two years in Ireland’s asylum system, under constant threat of deportation. While there, she befriends a security guard (O'Connor), who emphasises with her plight. However, the more their growing connection develops, any possible future together comes under frequent threat in an environment where asylum seekers are deemed to be just numbers.
Frank Berry, who lifted the lid on Ireland's penal system in his 2017 feature Michael Inside, directs Provision, with Donna Eperon, Aoife O'Sullivan and Tristan Orpen Lynch producing for Subotica Entertainment (Michael Inside, Terminal). Shooting is due to start in April in Ireland.
Wright is repped by Identity Agency Group and her attorneys at Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern, while O'Connor is repped by CAA and the Independent Talent Group.
