The Civil Rights arm of Organisation for Biafra Freedom (OFBF), an umbrella organisation of pro-Biafra groups at home and in diaspora, has moved against attacks on protesters at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos.

In a statement signed by its coordinator, worldwide, Eddie Nwosu, stated that the protest was a peaceful one, where Nigerians called for the end of impunity and intimidation unleashed on our already traumatized citizens by Nigerian police especially its dreaded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).Nigerians through #Endsars campaign, to challenge the evil perpetrated by some institutions in Nigeria.

“We were shocked, like the rest of the world, to watch the unprecedented and unprovoked shooting of our brave and unarmed children at Lekki Toll plaza on the October 20, and in the other parts of Nigeria by the Nigeria Army.

“We condemn in the strongest term this act of barbarism by the Nigerian Army and wish to express our strong support for the constitutionally guaranteed rights of these youths to peacefully protest.

“We encourage and support them to continue their peaceful protest until their demands are met”.

The statement read in parts.

He, however, urge the aggrieved Nigerians to be vigilant of allegedly sponsored groups infiltrating their ranks and bringing violence to their peaceful protest. He believed that such groups, if allowed, would bring their legitimate protest to disrepute.

He further urged the protesters not to resort to violence but to observe and continue to practise peaceful demonstrations.

“We assure these young Nigerians of our total support in their peaceful struggle to end the numerous mess that have become Nigeria exemplified by her security services especially the disbanded police SARS unit.

“We urge all people of goodwill and the international community to intervene on the side of the murdered and maimed youths to bring justice to them. The perpetrators of this latest carnage and their handlers will not be left unpunished.

“We are urging the Federal Government of President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to and grant the demands of the protesting youths. He went on to say that the President should call a national conference of determination of Nigeria as a state and sovereign nation,” he charged.
