BIAFRANS : The Two Choices Before Nnamdi Kanu Ahead Of Parents’ Burial

Biafra: The Two Choices Before Nnamdi Kanu Ahead Of Parents' Burial
There are two choices before Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ahead of the burial ceremony of his parents, Naija News reports.
This online news platform had reported earlier that the parents of the IPOB leader, late HRH Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife late Ugoeze Sally Nmeme Okwu-Kanu will be buried on Valentine’s day, Friday, February 14, 2020.
Naija News reports that ahead of the burial ceremony, the governor of Abia State, southeast Nigeria, Okezie Ikpeazu, has directed the state ministry of works to ensure the immediate reconstruction of Eze I. O. Kanu road in Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area (LGA).
While IPOB members are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Nnamdi Kanu for the burial ceremony, the IPOB leader who is on exile is yet to make an official statement indicating that he would attend the burial, although his group, IPOB has issued several statements on the forthcoming ceremony.
Kanu’s continuous silence, has, however, raised eyebrows with many “weighing the choices” before the IPOB leader who is also the Director of Radio Biafra, a platform he uses to disseminate information to Biafra pro-Biafra agitators whom he refers to as “Biafrans.”
Naija News understands that the two choices before Mr. Kanu are either for him to attend the burial ceremony of his parents which is required by the Igbo tradition as a form of paying last respect or to stay back in the abroad where he is based.
Choice number one: Nnamdi Kanu returning to Nigeria to bury his parents
The first choice before Nnamdi Kanu is for the IPOB leader to return to Nigeria to bury his parents, however, a closer look at the situation surrounding his escape from Nigeria shows the IPOB leader might prefer option two, no thanks to a threat of being rearrested by the Nigerian government for allegedly jumping bail.
Naija News recalls that Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, had attacked Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, saying he helped Kanu jump bail.
The Presidential spokesman had said that Senator Abaribe should have replaced Kanu after the IPOB leader “jumped” bail instead of asking for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation.
“Senator Abaribe has failed repeated deadlines to return Kanu to the court for trial, yet he has the effrontery with which to accuse someone of failing to the bidding of the law.
“This is a man who should have replaced the suspects he failed to produce in the correctional facility,” the Presidential spokesman had said.
However, reacting to Shehu’s claim in a tweet, Kanu denied jumping bail, claiming that the Nigerian Army invaded his home to assassinate him.
His words: “On 29/01/2020, in his response to #BuhariResign @GarShehu
tweeted that I jumped bail and disappeared ”into the thin air.” WRONG!
“Nigerian Army invaded my home to assassinate me, read my story and join the heated discussion on the Independent’s website,” Kanu replied Shehu.
Choice number two: Nnamdi Kanu staying back in the abroad while his parents are buried
There are indications that the IPOB leader might take option number two, which is to stay back in the abroad while his parents are buried in Nigeria. This decision will definitely not be unconnected with his current case with the Federal Government of Nigeria which is slated to resume March 31, 2020. Kanu’s bail has since been revoked by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
