Biafra: Focus on achieving Igbo nation through referendum – Ohanaeze to agitators

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, has called on agitators from the South East to focus on the 2018 Biafra restoration through the universally accepted peaceful referendum.
OYC gave the call while advising agitators to discard rumour of Federal Government’s plan to establish a military barracks in Afara-Ukwu, Abia State, the country home of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The body’s stance was contained in a statement signed by its National Vice President, Comrade Obinna Achionye.
Achionye also admonished the Federal Government to urgently rebuild the Palace of Eze Israel Kanu of Afara Ukwu, father of Kanu, allegedly destroyed last September when soldiers raided it in search of the IPOB leader.
The youths said rebuilding the palace could go a long way in assuaging the anger of the community on the illegal invasion of the community by soldiers.
The statement reads, “After our investigation, we assure IPOB that there is no iota of truth on the planned establishment of a mini military barracks in Afara.
“Though we are not holding forth for Federal Government or Abia state Government on the issue, but it is high time we reconcile with all agitators and heal the wounds of Python Dance which left many Igbo youths dead, many Igbo youths are still in the morgue and we are worried of how they will be buried.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council worldwide will always defend the interest of Ndigbo, especially from any external aggression and our collective enemies.
“We still call on all Biafra agitators to focus on the 2018 Biafra restoration through the universally accepted peaceful referendum, and never be distracted by rumours peddlers.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths Council Worldwide will do anything peaceful to ensure that our youths are not victims of military brutality.
“We call on the Federal Government to rebuild the Palace of HRM Eze Israel Kanu, whose traditional palace was wrongfully destroyed during the operation Python Dance, and urge Abia state Government never to be distracted in their efforts to rebuild Abia and call on Governor Ikpeazu to be the father of all in Abia”.

IPOB: The Nigerian Civil War, commonly known as the Biafran War

THE HISTORY OF BIAFRA AND NIGERIA WAR  Israel, Nigeria and the Biafra civil war    The Nigerian Civil War , commonly known as the Biafran War (6 July 1967 – 15 January 1970), was a war fought between the government of Nigeria and the secessionist state of Biafra. Biafra represented nationalist aspirations of the Igbo people, whose leadership felt they could no longer coexist with the Northern-dominated federal government. The conflict resulted from political, economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions which preceded Britain's formal decolonization of Nigeria from 1960 to 1963. Immediate causes of the war in 1966 included a military coup, a counter-coup and persecution of Igbo living in Northern Nigeria. Control over the lucrative oil production in the Niger Delta played a vital strategic role. Within a year, the Federal Government troops surrounded Biafra, capturing coastal oil facilities and the city of Port Harcourt. The blockade imp...
