Kanu has been in detention since 2021, after he was arrested in Kenya by the Federal Government and repatriated to Nigeria to face trial.   Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has urged South-East governors and other political leaders in the zone to ignore Simon Ekpa’s opposition to their planned negotiation for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.   The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has asked the governors in the South-East to stop politicising the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
