BIAFRA : We decrypted messages from the Biafran war that have remained secret for 50 years

This year marks the  50th anniversary  of the end of the  Biafran conflict  in 1970. The trigger for the conflict was the proclamation by Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu on 30 May 1967 that Biafra had become a  republic . After 30 months of war,  Biafra surrendered  and was once again incorporated into Nigeria. According to the author  John de St Jorre , between half a million and a million Nigerians died, mainly from starvation, during the war. Through the efforts of their roving diplomats during the war, Biafra achieved recognition from the states of  Tanzania ,  Gabon ,  Haiti ,  Ivory Coast , and  Zambia . But the fledgling state struggled to secure wider diplomatic support. It also found it difficult to purchase weapons and smuggle them into its controlled territory via airlift. The efforts of these diplomats have recently come to light through the  decryption  of telexes sent from Portugal to Biafra during the war....

BIAFRA : Igbo must love themselves before becoming Nigeria’s president – Arthur Eze

Foremost Nigerian philanthropist and oil mogul, Prince Arthur Eze says Igbo must love themselves and be willing to support each other if they want to be president of Nigeria in 2023. Eze who spoke to journalists in his country home, Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State said Igbo indigenes cannot be president if they continue to dislike and fight each other at every given time. “We must love ourselves before we can become president of Nigeria. Politicians are causing hatred in Igbo land, they find it difficult to work with each other. Each desires to work for their own selfish interest. “Another thing is that we must see a way to work with northerners. I love northern leaders and they love me too. They are very easy to deal with. When I was struggling to be somebody in life, they took me in with trust. “Only God can find the kind of Igbo man that has the character to help. Without that kind of character, we cannot unite to become president of Nigeria. That is why the n...

BIAFRA : Kanu faults Buhari’s aide over Biafra

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, on Saturday disagreed with the statement credited to the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina that Muhammadu Buhari was not against the people of Biafra. Kanu described such a statement as “a complete falsehood”, adding that “it can only deceive the gullible but certainly not those familiar with history.” The IPOB leader who spoke in a statement by his Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful maintained that Biafra citizens had suffered enough persecution and killings at slightest provocation on several occasions. “The truth rather, is that people of Biafra have continued to be victims of state persecution and calculated elimination. Biafrans have been slaughtered at the slightest provocation on several occasions since the unholy amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914. Nigeria Government and her partners in crime are sponsoring the killings and heartless massacre of Biafrans si...

BIAFRA : We do not expect everybody to support Biafra agitation – Kanu

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnmadi Kanu on Sunday vowed they are prepared to sacrifice the last drop of their blood to restore Biafra saying he does not expect everybody that bears a Biafran name to support wholeheartedly the move IPOB is making to ensure that freedom is restored in Igboland. “We urge the good people of Biafra not to be unduly burdened when certain comments designed to pander to the Fulani Caliphate are uttered by some individuals or politicians as we march ever so remorselessly to our destination which is freedom for Biafra. Kanu said in a statement by his Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful  that these misguided individuals should therefore be pitied rather than condemned. “Our position against the flawed foundational structures upon which our British colonial masters constructed the fraudulent edifice Flora Shaw originally named Nigga-area later anglicised to Nigeria by her lover Frederick Luggard must not be allowed to stand. “It d...

BIAFRA : We’re in talks with UN for Biafra referendum –IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, on Tuesday, claimed to be in talks with the United Nations to hold a referendum for a sovereign state of Biafra.  The claim was contained in a statement by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful. Powerful said IPOB was making efforts for the referendum any moment soon.  Promising that the exercise would be peaceful, the group said everybody resident within Biafra territory would vote according to their conscience.  He said, “It is quite clear and understandable to every citizen of Biafra and indeed the entire world that we need a referendum, where the people will exercise their right on whether or not they want self-rule or continued existence within Nigeria.  “A UN-supervised referendum is a must and a right for every human being in Nigeria to unequivocally state where they wish to belong.  “We in IPOB and Biafrans in general expect the United Nations to supervise this referendum, which will enable even those l...

BIAFRA : Referendum now to decide Biafra nation -IPOB

Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has hinged the realisation of a Biafra nation on referendum to be strictly supervised by the United Nations (UN). A statement by the spokesman of the group, Emma Powerful, yesterday, said the move is to allow the people decide  if they still need Biafra or want to remain in Nigeria. “UN supervised referendum is a must and a right for every human being in Nigeria to unequivocally state where they wish to belong. We in IPOB and Biafrans in general expect the United Nations to supervise this referendum which will enable even those living beyond the boundaries of Biafra to equally determine their own fate. We want freedom for all not just for Biafrans alone. IPOB is making frantic efforts to ensure that this happens in shortest possible time. “We are not going to force or intimidate anyone or tribe because the will of the people is sacrosanct and must be respected. Each individual will be allowed to decide for themselves whe...

BIAFRA : Nnamdi Kanu, please take is easy! By DONS EZE

We totally share in the sentiments and aspirations of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for a better place for the Igbo under the sun. But we do not endorse or subscribe to Nnamdi Kanu’s method of trying to actualize his dream Biafra. The reason why many people, particularly the Igbo, became tired and uncomfortable with the contraption called Nigeria, which necessitated the declaration of Biafra Republic in 1967, was because Nigeria had turned itself into a Golgotha, a slaughter house, and also lacked freedom and equal opportunities. For thirty months, Biafrans were in the trenches, fighting to liberate themselves from the oligarchic and fascist regime that had held Nigeria captive since its formation, and at the same time, creating a country where all its inhabitants would be free to pursue their legitimate goals without let or hinderance, without molestation. These were the ideals which endeared many people to Biafra, why most Biafrans, young and...
