A statement signed by the Director General (DG) of the agency, Mrs Mojisola Adeyeye, stated that most of those animal hides were meant for industrial use.     The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned the general public to be careful of the consumption of animal hides, known as Ponmo.   Adeyeye added that some of the animal hides were pre-treated with industrial chemicals, which were not of food grade and were toxic and injurious to human health. According to  her, investigations have revealed that some companies legally imported hides from countries like Lebanon and Turkey, while majority of the product were smuggled into the country through the porous borders. “The Management of NAFDAC wishes to use this medium to alert the general public and in particular consumers of animal hides popularly known as Ponmo on the activities of some unscrupulous business men and traders. “These imported animal hides...

BIAFRA : Dismiss Atiku’s petition, no law requires me to tender my certificates – Buhari begs Tribunal

BIAFRA : Biafra civil war bombs detonated in Anambra, Imo Delta Police

According to the Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) of the Police,  construction workers at building sites discovered the explosives in Imo, Delta and Anambra states and reported their findings to security agencies.    The Nigeria Police have uncovered and detonated an undisclosed number bombs left during the 1967-1970 Biafra civil war in three states.     This was made known on Thursday by the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of Nigeria’s EOD, Maikudi Shehu. He spoke during the quarterly conference of senior officers and EOD base/unit commanders at his office in Lagos. CP Shehu said, “Part of our successes after the general elections was the recovery and subsequent detonation of explosives left during the civil war in Anambra, Delta and Imo states. “The explosives were detonated without causing panic. The explosives were many and would have caused a lot of damage if not for the timely intervention of our department.”
