Igbo NASS caucus ‘quietly working to release Nnamdi Kanu’ – Ekweremadu

Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President, has disclosed efforts to ensure the release of pro-Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu.

Ekweremadu disclosed that the Southeast Caucus in the National Assembly is “quietly” working towards finding a political solution that would lead to Kanu’s release.

He spoke in a lecture titled: “The Igbo in Diaspora: A Perspective” delivered virtually in Pretoria, South Africa, on Sunday, and was contained in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Uche Anichukwu.

The former Deputy Senate President recounted that the Caucus had in the past sought a political solution for agitators from the region in the past.

He urged Igbo in the diaspora to voice out against violent agitations, while ensuring the security and stability in the Southeast.

According to Ekweremadu: “Let me also assure you that the South East Caucus of the National Assembly is not resting on its oars.

“We are working quietly and surely to address these issues, including finding a political solution to the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu matter.

“We did it before in the case of Chief Ralph Uwazuruike in 2007. We also did it in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in 2017. And God willing, and with your support and prayers, we will succeed again in the matter of Nnamdi kanu to promote peace and stability in our region.”

Kanu was arrested in Kenya and repatriated.

He is currently detained by the Department of State Services, DSS.

The Biafra agitator is expecting to appear before the Justice Binta Nyako-led Federal High Court in Abuja to continue his trial for alleged treason.

MASSOB tackles Nigerian Army over arrest of veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Saturday, accused President Muhammadu Buhari-led

administration of turning Nigeria into an animal kingdom, regretting that Nigeria under current government has drifted to a tyrannical state.

The pro-Biafra group described as insensitivity, unprofessional and tribalistic, the recent arrest and release of Nigeria foremost actor, Chinwetalu Agu by soldiers of the Nigerian army at Onitsha, in Anambra State.

recalls that Chinwetalu Agu was arrested by Nigerian Army troops for allegedly soliciting support for pro-Biafra agitators.

He was reportedly sharing food to the less-privileged persons when government forces stopped him at Upper Iweka road, Onitsha.

The movie actor was approached by two soldiers who wrestled him to the ground and dragged him away.

Reacting, MASSOB, in a statement by Director of Information, Comrade Edeson Samuel, made available to  on Saturday, criticized the Nigeria military for her disdain to fundamental human rights of the citizens, and matters concerning the Igbos.

The organization grieved that the army head command knew that the veteran actor committed no crime that warranted the torture he received from their overzealous and unexposed junior officers deployed to terrorize the people of Biafra.

According to MASSOB in the statement, “Chief Chinwetala Agu is a courageous and eloquent Igbo statesman. He deserved to be celebrated and honored, though we condemned the barbaric assault on him by President Mohammadu Buhari’s Fulani foot soldiers at upper iweka onitsha.

“MASSOB is proud of Chief Chinwetalu Agu for openly identifying with his people in their suffering. He is a great hero of the Biafra nation”.

I care about Nnamdi Kanu, he must not be tried like convict – Gov Ikpeazu

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has described Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as his citizen, whom he cares about.

To this end, Ikpeazu said Kanu must not be treated as a convict.

He, however, advocated that the right procedure be followed in trying Kanu and ensuring justice in his matter.

“I regard Nnamdi Kanu as my citizen but not as leader of IPOB because I am the governor. I am prepared to engage to resolve the issue. I care about his welfare and I care that he should be tried in a just and fair way.

“I am happy that they want to bring justice to bear by looking at the allegations against him and trying him fair and square but I would not want him to be treated as if he was a convict when he has not been convicted.

“Not until otherwise, he is still my citizen and as his father, it behoves on us to care for him after all the prodigal son had a father,” he told The Sun.

Kanu is locked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, following his rearrest in Kenya.

The IPOB leader is expected to appear before Justice Binta Nyako- led Abuja Federal High Court on October 21 to continue his trial.

Justice Nyako had first granted him bail in 2017 but he jumped it and fled abroad.

However, Kanu explained that he fled Nigeria because his life was in danger.

We’re sitting on keg of gunpowder, negotiate with Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB – Gov Ikpeazu to FG

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, has disclosed that the government needs to engage Nnamdi Kanu and his group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Ikpeazu explained that the face-off between the federal government, Kanu and IPOB can be resolved on a negotiation table.

He, however, warned that Nigeria was sitting on a keg of gunpowder if the group was not engaged.

Speaking with Sun, Ikpeazu said negotiation between the federal government and Kanu’s group would bring about peace and justice in the Southeast.

Ikpeazu pointed out that some of the agitations of IPOB are legitimate and should be listened to.

He said: “We must engage with IPOB. Yes, we must find a way to talk about the issues at stake. These people are not as bad as the ones in the North East or the North West, who go to schools and seize the whole population of teachers and students or invade the mosques and churches and kidnap all the worshippers and nobody can find them until ransom is paid.

“I believe that there is some ideological sense in what these people in the South East are saying. There is something to listen to even though it is criminal to take up arms against the state.

“There is a message they are trying to pass in the process. We need confidence building among ourselves rather than use words that we should not use even as leaders.

“Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder but the solution is not too difficult to find.”

BIAFRA : Chiwetalu Agu dons ‘Biafra outfit’ after release from military custody Kindly share this story:

Nollywood Actor, Chiwetalu Agu, on Friday, donned the same ‘Biafra outfit’ that landed in trouble with soldiers when he was released at the Army Headquarters in Enugu State.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that soldiers on Thursday arrested the actor around Upper Iweka Bridge in Onitsha for wearing an outfit with Biafra inscriptions.

Agu was reportedly on a charity mission to the less privileged when he was arrested by soldiers.

The Nigerian Army in a statement said that the actor was arrested “while inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.”

The Army also said the actor “dressed in a very well known attire of the proscribed group”, adding that he was being questioned.

But in a video posted by Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, on his Instagram page on Friday, Agu was captured with two representatives of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

One of the AGN representatives said the actor is hale and hearty.

Speaking in the video recorded on the premises of the Army Headquarters in Enugu, Agu, who wore the same outfit he had on when he was arrested, encouraged Nigerians to “keep supporting Nollywood. It’s the only hope we have to sustain both our public and private lives.”

Earlier in a viral video, the actor was seen seated on a bare floor with soldiers around him.

Agu had said, “I can wear this…this is rising sun, not Biafra, not Eastern Security Network…This is a civil dress

“With my education, I know areas to go, areas not to go

“I was sharing 10,000 worth of bread when he (soldier) came, no campaign, nobody was doing any demonstration or carrying people along. Even people who were hawking, I was giving them bread.”

Some Nigerians who were gutted by the action of the military had described the actor’s arrest as illegal.
