restates commitment to Biafra’s actualisation

GLOBAL movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu, has urged all Biafra people to remain resolute in their struggle for restoration, insisting that a sovereign Biafra nation is closer than ever.

The group that despite their current travails, Biafra citizens could see the ‘Rising Sun of Our Great Nation and the Land of Hope, maintaining that they were already on the threshold of independence.

In a statement issued, yesterday, Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, revealed that the leadership of the group had taken the struggle to the international arena as he promised, adding that global attention was now on Biafra.

Powerful, who flayed their detractors and agents of darkness who engage in malicious propaganda and blackmail, maintained that IPOB was not only a peaceful movement, but also a lawful organisation.

It also lampooned the Nigeria government, saying that it had a history of impunity when it comes to obeying orders and judgments pronounced by courts of competent jurisdiction.

“History, they say, is the best teacher and we, therefore, want to remind our oppressors that a Federal High Court, in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, had on March 2, 2017, ruled that ‘IPOB is not an unlawful organization.

“The court which struck-out six of the 11-count criminal charge the Federal Government preferred against Nnamdi Kanu and three other Biafra agitators, declared that IPOB was not unlawful.

“The Nigeria government already knows that we are prepared for it at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and very soon we shall meet there. The world is also aware of all the atrocities of the Nigeria government through the instrumentality of its terrorist security agencies against the innocent and non- violent Biafra people.

“Very soon we shall get the justice that we have been asking for! BIAFRA shall be actualised in our lifetime,” the statement reads.

Yoruba Nation, Biafra agitators, two others protest as Buhari addresses UN Assembly today

Three Nigerian groups are set for protests today at the United Nations headquarters in New as the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) addresses the UN General Assembly.

While two of the groups are protesting against the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the third group will demonstrate in support of the ex-military leader.

One of the groups comprising Yoruba Nation and Biafra agitators, Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination, is headed by Prof Banji Akintoye.

Also, activists under the aegis of TakeItBack movement have mobilised for a protest at UN headquarters in New York with demands.

gathered that the last group would be holding a pro-Buhari protest tagged, ‘One Nigeria March.’

Akintoye explained that NINAS’ protest tagged, ‘Million-Man Freedom March,’ was to show the world “the crimes against humanity, attacks on press freedom, free speech and other criminalities being aided by the Buhari-led government of Nigeria.”

He also said the agitators “are demanding the conduct of a regional referendum so that the indigenous people can decide on their nationhood”.

The renowned historian accused the Federal Government of sponsoring the counter-protest at UN headquarters, alleging that black foreigners living in the United States of America were “hired at $500 per head.”

Akintoye, in a statement on Thursday by NINAS Director of Public Communications, Mr Maxwell Adeleye, said, “Irrespective of the material and financial superiorities of these Lions, there’s no way they can defeat United Foxes in a democracy.

“The Friday Grand March in New York shall be historic; hence, the Nigerian government is jittery. The ring leader of government officials and a top Lagos journalist are now in New York to start hiring black people who will pretend as Nigerians to stage a pro-Buhari and One Nigeria protest to counter NINAS.

“But we refuse to be rattled. We shall not be intimidated. No oppressor has ever triumphed against the collective will of the people. The people are the government and power belongs to the people. The people make the constitution.”

TakeitBack Movement’s Global Director of Mobilisation, Gbola Owoborode, listed four demands for the activists’ protest, among which were that the leader of Independent People of Biafra and Yoruba Nation activists, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, should be freed.

He said, “The regime should also free Sowore, unconditionally and drop all charges, of which he has been falsely accused.

“We demand the immediate release of all political prisoners, including Nnamdi Kanu, Igboho and the over 300 #endSARS activists still under illegal detention, as well as an end to terrorism, kidnappings. and banditry that has completely ravaged the entire country.

“The resignation of the Buhari regime that is incompetent, lawless, despotic, nepotistic and corrupt. It has failed to guarantee the security and welfare of Nigerians which is their primary responsibility as a government. The Buhari Junta must go!”

Biafra, Oduduwa: Gov Ortom reveals major reasons for agitations in Nigeria

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Thursday, said Nigerians have

lost confidence in the presidency, leading to the current agitation for secession in both the Southeast and Southwest geopolitical zones.

Governor Ortom, who is known for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over his alleged inability to tackle the current security challenges, made the assertion during an event organized by the Radio Nigeria chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ in Enugu State.

The governor revealed that the lack of fairness to Nigerians by the Buhari administration birthed the agitation for separation which is currently going on in some parts of the country.

Ortom said, “as you are aware, youth restiveness, herdsmen attacks, banditry and other criminal activities have had a negative impact on the socio-economic life of the country and are also fueling ethnic tensions.

“As I stated earlier, the current secessionist agitations here in the East and elsewhere are a result of injustice and lack of fairness to Nigerians by the current Presidency.

“This is why there is a growing perception that the Federal Government is encouraging the murderous activities of Fulani herdsmen by its actions and inaction.

“From all indications, the public trust in the Presidency has been eroded. This does not speak well for the corporate existence of Nigeria”.

reports that while the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB are agitating for the separation of the Southeast from Nigeria over alleged marginalization, some secessionists in the Southwest are also moving for the actualization of the Oduduwa Republic, a sovereign state for the Yoruba nation.

Nnamdi Kanu a political prisoner, committed no offence – Lawyer

Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, pro-Biafra agitator, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has described his client as a political prisoner who has committed no offence.

Ejiofor made the remark while maintaining that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is not unlawful as ruled by Justice Binta Nyako in 2017.

In a statement he issued on Thursday, after his meeting with Kanu, he expressed hope that the IPOB leader would get justice soon.

According to Ejiofor: “I had an extensive interaction/chat with our indefatigable client- Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during today’s routine visit to the National Headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS).

“It is on record that by the ruling of Justice Nyako delivered in 2017, His Lordship while ruling on our application, held that IPOB is not an Unlawful Organisation. This Ruling of the Court was not appealed against, neither was it set aside by any Superior Court.

“We are not relenting in our efforts to ensure that justice is done to our Client, he will be freed and in no distant time, because he has committed no offence known to law. He is at best, a Political Prisoner. Nevertheless, Victory will be ours in the end. I see!”

The pro-Biafra agitator was first arrested in 2017.

Upon his arrest and arraignment, Justice Nyako had granted Kanu bail.

However, he jumped bail and moved to Europe where he continued with his secession activities.

He was, however, rearrested in 2021 in a country believed to be Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria.

Upon Kanu’s return to Nigeria, he was locked up in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

There’ll be one-month lockdown in south-east if FG fails to bring Kanu to court

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) says the south-east region will go on a one-month lockdown, if the federal government fails to bring Nnamdi Kanu, its leader, to court on October 21.

On July 26, Binta Nyako, judge of the federal high court, Abuja, adjourned the trial of Kanu till October 21, owing to the failure of the federal government to produce him in court.

In June, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and extradited to Nigeria to face trial. He was remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) after he was re-arraigned before the judge.

On August 9, the proscribed group announced the enforcement of a lockdown every Monday until Kanu is released but later suspended the directive, a few days later.

Reacting, IPOB, in a statement, by Emma Powerful, its spokesperson, alleged that the federal government has perfected plans not to bring Kanu to court on the next adjourned date.

The group said its “peaceful resolution” towards the trial of Kanu should not be misconstrued as weakness, while stressing that there will be one month lockdown in the south-east, if the federal government fails to bring Kanu to court.

“The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great prophet and liberator of our time, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the plot by Nigeria government and DSS in Abuja not to produce our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to court on 21st October 2021, the date he is due to appear in court to start his case,” the statement reads.

“The federal government of Nigeria has again perfected plans not to bringing him to court on that day. Their wicked plan is to perpetually keep him behind bars without trial to see if they can demoralise him and Biafrans but they are late.

“If the federal government refuses to bring him to court in his next court appearance on October 21, 2021, the entire Biafra land will be on total lock down for one month. The federal government will know that they cannot take us for granted any more. Our peaceful disposition as a people should not be misconstrued as weakness.

“Their plan is to suppress agitation and force everyone into submission but Biafrans won’t succumb to their intimidation.”
