Biafra’s lockdown spun out of control?

A series of lockdowns in Nigeria's southeast caused by the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra (IBOB) sit-at-home directives are causing unprecedented hardship and losses never seen since the time of the civil war. There is even a bigger challenge: the situation seems to be out of control, for both the IPOB and governors across the five states in the region.

Nigeria’s southeast, one of the most economically disadvantaged geopolitical zones in the country, is bleeding as a result of self-immolation blamed on the IPOB, which is championing the cause for the creation of a Biafran nation made up of the Igbos, Nigeria’s third-largest ethnic group.

Why Nnamdi Kanu will defeat Buhari govt at ICC soon – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Tuesday said its leader, Nnamdi

Kanu would defeat the Nigerian government at the International Criminal Court, ICC, in The Hague.

IPOB’s mouthpiece, Emma Powerful, said Kanu would defeat the Nigerian government at the ICC using proof of how security agents terrorized people of the Southeast.

Powerful claimed that the Nigerian government used security agents to terrorize the people of the Southeast.

In a statement, Powerful insisted that soon Biafra will be actualized.

He said: “The Nigeria Government already knows that we are prepared for it at the International Criminal Court, ICC.

“Just very soon we shall meet there! The whole world is also aware of all the atrocities of the Nigeria Government through the instrumentality of its terrorist security agencies against the innocent and non-violent people of Biafra.

“Very soon we shall get the justice that we have been asking for! BIAFRA shall be actualised in our lifetime.

“Our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has virtually completed his mandate. Let’s continue to uphold him in our prayers.

“We have unwavering faith in Elohim the Almighty God that very soon the prevailing darkness shall give way for light. All Biafrans must remain resolute and united because our victory is coming soonest.”

Igbo youths issue demand on IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Igbo youth leaders have urged the federal government to ensure speedy trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The stakeholders requested that Kanu’s prosecution be “fair and in accordance with laid down laws”.

Their demand is contained in a communiqué issued on Friday in Enugu at the end of a convention on the security and stability of the region.

In attendance were the Association of South-East Town Union (ASETU) Youth Wing, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

The gathering blamed the crisis in the South-East on security architecture and insincerity of the political class.

The communiqué urged Igbo youths to get involved in politics and policymaking in their states.

It urged them to register to vote and actively participate in the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election.

The youths told the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to give a level-playing ground to all parties.

They backed the decision of Rivers and Lagos to collect Value Added Tax (VAT) generated from their states and charged South-East governors to support the move.

On the farmers-herders crisis, the organizations opposed open grazing and commended governors and legislators of Abia and Enugu for signing the bill into law.

“We are calling on their counterparts in Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi to expedite actions in ensuring the anti-open grazing bill is passed and signed into law.

“Furthermore, we call on the Federal Government to exhibit similar dexterity shown in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu case in other regions of the country.”

The communiqué was signed by Okorie Okechukwu, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths; Tony Ejike, NANS; Anita Adaeze, NYCN; Maxwell Ezelagu, NYC, Christian Afulike, ASETU Youth Wing, among others.

BIAFRA NEWS : MASSOB to Gbajabiamila You are wrong to compare IPOB, Biafra agitators to ISWAP, Boko Haram

The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB,

has warned the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila to refrain from linking IPOB and Pro Biafra group with ISWAP and Boko Haram.

MASSOB asked Gbajabiamila to go for a psychiatric evaluation to determine mental health and receive treatment if not ok.

The group gave the warning in a statement signed by MASSOB leadership, Uchenna Madu and Edeson Samuel, forwarded to  on Thursday.

The statement reads in part: “We Condemn the statement credited to the speaker of House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, where he said that the Yoruba Nation agitators, IPOB and other pro-Biafra agitators are not different from ISWAP and Boko Haram organization.

“It is unfortunate for a well-trained lawyer who is also a speaker of a nation’s parliament with a high level of education to stoop so low in making such unreasonable and inconsequential comment.

“How could a lawyer who ought to know the difference between self-determination and terrorism open his mouth in a public gathering and declare that a man who wants his freedom is the same with criminals that go about kidnapping school children, destroying churches, mosques and killing people at will.

“MASSOB is demanding that the Speaker of the House of Representative Mr. Gbajabiamila be taken to a psychiatrist to check if he is mentally okay, if not, he should be given proper treatment.

“It is very clear that Mr. Gbajabiamila has been bought over by the Fulanistic Cabals that control the presidency in Aso villa. If not so, then he might be one of the sponsors of Boko Haram and ISWAP.

“MASSOB wishes to remind the Mohammadu Buhari led APC government that there is no amount of blackmail, intimidation, arrest or even killing that can stop Biafra Actualization” the group stated.

BIAFRA NEWS : Buhari Was At The Fore Of Onslaught Against Igbos During Biafra War, Didn't Take A Day Off—Presidential Aide Boasts

Adesina said therefore, Buhari is not afraid of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Femi Adesina, media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that the President often boasted that he never took a day off in a genocidal civil war he fought on the side of the Nigerian troops until the government troops massacred over three million Igbos.

Adesina said therefore, Buhari is not afraid of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a Facebook post on Friday, Adesina explained that during the preparations for Buhari's recent visit to Imo State, he had received messages from supporters who told him to prevail on the president to cancel the trip.

The fears expressed by the so-called supporters may not be unconnected to the sit-at-home order issued by IPOB to the people of the South-East as a sign of protest.

Adesina, however, explained that Buhari who could not be bullied visited the state to inaugurate some projects executed by Governor Hope Uzodinma and enjoyed wide reception.

Underlining the president’s fearlessness and genocidal tendency, Adesina further informed Nigerians that until the 30-month war between the federal troops and Biafran soldiers ended, Buhari was restless until some three million Igbos, mostly women, and children, were massacred in a genocide.

“A man, who repeatedly tells us that for the 30 months the Nigerian Civil War lasted, he was right there at the front, not even taking one day off. Is that then the person you would scare from visiting any part of the country?” he said.

Adesina wrote on Facebook, “Many were the prayers and goodwill messages that sped our feet to Owerri, capital of Imo State, the Eastern Heartland, on September 9, 2021.

“Why were the people so effusive in prayers? We were considered as going into unsafe territory, where anything could happen, as President Muhammadu Buhari and his team visited Owerri on a one-day working visit.

“Rather erroneously, some people have pedestaled the President as not liking the Igbos. Who, President Buhari? They don’t know the man. Not this man I’ve worked with closely and observed for over six years. He hates nobody. And I repeat: nobody.

“To make matters worse, a shadowy group had claimed that the President was not welcome in any part of the South-east. I got messages filled with trepidation from home and abroad. Please prevail on the President to cancel the trip. He should apologise to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, and abort the visit. There could be a bloodbath.

“I only laughed it all off. Who would tell a duly and popularly elected President where to go, and where not to go, in his own country? At the height of the Boko Haram insurgency, he had campaigned in Borno State in 2015 and 2019, respectively.

“A man, who repeatedly tells us that for the 30 months the Nigerian Civil War lasted, he was right there at the front, not even taking one day off. Is that then the person you would scare from visiting any part of the country?

“And again, this was a serial Igbo Chief. The Ogbuagu 1 (The Lion Killer) of Aba. The Ochioha 1 (Leader of All) of Igboland, given to him in Ebonyi State in 2017. Also The Enyioma 1 (The Good Friend) of Ebonyi, and Ikeogu 1 (The Great Warrior) of Ndigbo, among others. Is this then the kind of person you frighten from visiting anywhere, particularly Igboland? It doesn’t happen.

“...The visit of the President was a roaring success, and like the Ohanaeze President said, it drove away 'the cloudiness of relationship with Ndigbo'.

“The Ogbuagu, indeed, slew the lion of insularity, wrong profiling, and scaremongering. Bring on the other lions!”

The civil war occurred between 1967 and 1970, after South-East called for secession from Nigeria and the declaration of an independent State of Biafra, which was recognised by some countries.

Recently, several groups have emerged calling for the independence of indigenous nations like Biafra and Odua and break away from Nigeria.

In June, Buhari wrote in a tweet: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

The President’s tweet riled some persons who felt he was insensitive to have made reference to killings in the civil war. His critics subsequently reported the tweet to Twitter and the microblogging site later deleted the post with a comment, “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules.”
