Ohanaeze Ndigbo slams Northern group over N100m bounty on IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kalu

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has slammed the Northern groups for placing a bounty on Nnamdi Kanu’s whereabouts.

had reported that 17 Northern groups under the aegis of Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) on Thursday declared Kanu wanted over the killings and destruction of properties owned by Northerners in the Southeast.

The President of the group, Dr Auwal Abdullahi, while addressing a press conference, also placed a N100m bounty on Kanu.

Reacting, Ohanaeze Ndigbo in a statement by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro on Friday, faulted the move and accused the warring factions in the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders and Islamic terror organizations of being behind the killings and destruction of properties in the southeast region.

The group called on the Northern groups to place their N100 million bounty on Miyetti Allah and the slain Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau’s successor whom it alleged had foisted heavy havoc on the citizens.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, however, dismissed the claim that northerners are being killed in the southeast, maintaining that there had not been any killing of northerners recorded anywhere in the region as it further accused the northern groups of embarking on a mission to thwart the ambition of the southeast zone in producing President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor come 2023.

The Igbo organization said, “we would not want to join issues with faceless groups that are not known in the north but in as much as that they are making some attempts to cause crisis in the country by ensuring that the groups not only placing a bounty on Nnamdi Kanu over alleged killings, they are out to escalate the tension in the country.

“For the purpose of record and from the last time, there had not been any killing, except the accidental killing of Ahmed Gulak in Owerri. There had not been killing recorded anywhere in the southeast about northern people except some nefarious activities of unknown gunmen and killer Fulani herdsmen who had been attacking police stations and government facilities and killing both Igbos and indigenes from other parts of the country.

“We want to tell the groups being sponsored by some northern presidential aspirants to place the bounty on the new leader of Boko Haram terrorist group, that had just emerged after the death of Shekau. Nnamdi Kanu has an address in London or in Germany where his headquarters of IPOB is. There is no need of searching for Kanu. He is not in Nigeria, he has an address in London as a British citizen. They should just use the N100 million bounty given to them by northern politicians, who are trying to destabilize the southeast to have easy root for the 2023 presidential ticket of major political parties in Nigeria, especially of the PDP.

“They should place the bounty on Shekau’s successor who has no address, who is living in the forest, the terrorist group that took arms against the government for the last six years. They should not cry more than the bereaved, we will take care of the southeast and ensure normalcy returns. As far as we are concerned, that bounty is inconsequential and political. It is not necessary, only a means to continue to heat up tension in the polity”.

Southwest killings: “Bubble may burst soon” – Gani Adams writes UN, US, others

Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams wants global intervention over the killings in the South-West region, warning that “the bubble may burst soon”.

He made the call in a letter to the Secretary General, United Nations (UN), the Chairperson of the African Union (AU), and the Secretary of State, United States.

The message copied British Foreign Secretary, the European Union (EU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) among others.

The letter titled “Urgent need to stop killings by Fulani herdsmen in Yorubaland” called the attention of the international community to the “clear and present danger” threatening Nigeria.

Adams said the massacre of citizens, almost on a daily basis, was a sign that the nation is sliding towards anarchy.

He condemned the inability of the federal government to address the “already gory situation”.

Noting that the world knows what is going on in the most populous black country, Adams called for action against the “agenda” and “pogrom gradually being executed in Yorubaland”

“Yorubaland have been put under serious pressure through payment of ransom – running into millions of naira – demanded by conscienceless, unscrupulous and ruthless murderers.

“The agitation for them to leave our land has reached an alarming crescendo. The backing (the belief of our people) by the Federal Government that ‘nobody can chase anybody from any part of the country’ is not helping matters.”

Adams said the peace, stability and tranquility of Yoruba people are being tested by “blood-thirsty maniacs” who rape, kidnap and murder.

He cited the invasion of Igangan, a rural community in Ibarapaland, Oyo State on June 6, 2021.

“The massacre of scores of residents by these same band of roving killers, who prefer to stay in the forest because of their murderous intent, seems to be the last straw.”

The Aare warned that any crisis in Nigeria would have a negative effect on the rest of the world.

The Youruba leader said the situation had reached a level where some herdsmen leaders openly threaten governors for banning open grazing.

“The North has enough land to accommodate the nomadic nature of Fulani herdsmen, so why come down south to destroy people’s farms?

“I want to say that nobody wants war but our people will not sit idle while they are being slaughtered. I am raising this alarm because what is going on is provocative and the bubble may burst soon”, Adams added.

Sleepy Buhari making corruption to run rampant in Nigeria – Steve Hanke

Steve H Hanke, an American applied economist at John Hopkins University, Baltimore has taken a swipe at the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as Nigeria continues to experience an upsurge in corruption.

Recall that the All Progressive Congress’s mantra, while they were running for the office of the Presidency in 2015, was “CHANGE”.

President Buhari who was the party’s Presidential candidate then also promised Nigerians that he was stepping in to fight corruption and ensure that corrupt leaders are brought to justice.

But there has been public outcry over the high level of corruption since the APC-led administration took over in 2015. This has been complicated by the worsening of insecurity situation in the country.

However, Hanke in a tweet via his Twitter account on Thursday revealed that under the “watchful eye of President Buhari who claimed to be fighting corruption, corruption has continued to run rampant in Nigeria.

Tagging Buhari a sleepy president, Hanke wrote, “Thanks to the “watchful” eye of Sleepy Buhari, corruption continues to run rampant in #Nigeria.

“Just look at Nigeria’s terrible “Control of Corruption” ranking by @WorldBank.

“Nigeria is at the bottom of the barrel,” he wrote.

It doesn’t matter how many they kill, Biafra must emerge – Nnamdi Kanu vows

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has vowed that the alleged attacks on his loyalists in the Southeast aiming at halting the the current agitation would not stop Biafra nation from emerging as a sovereign state.

Kanu had severally accused the Nigerian Army and police operatives of killing IPOB members as a means of quelling the agitation.

Meanwhile, the security agencies in the region had also accused the IPOB members and its security outfit, the Eastern Security Network, ESN of killing personnel and destroying government facilities.

Nnamdi Kanu who is calling for a referendum to allow the secessionists decide whether to be part of Nigeria or a separate nation, said killings would not solve the problem.

According to him, the actualization of Biafra would still take place despite the alleged killings.

He made the remark on Thursday in a tweet via his official Twitter handle.

The tweet reads, “At the end of this tortuous journey, history will record that referendum, NOT bullets, determined their fate.“It matters not how many they kill; one outcome is inevitable, Biafra MUST emerge a FREE nation. The sooner the Caliphate understand this inevitability, the better for all”.
