Miss World congratulates Andrea Meza on Miss Universe win, biafra news

The Miss World Organization took to social media to congratulate Andrea Meza of Mexico for winning the 69th Miss Universe pageant.

Before competing in Miss Universe, Meza joined Miss World in 2017, finishing first runner-up to Manushi Chhillar of India.

 "Congratulations, Andrea!" read the post on the Miss World Facebook page, referring to the beauty queen as its Miss World Americas 2017.

It went on to reveal that Meza earlier joined her fellow Miss World 2017 queens on a "global humanitarian tour" that included stops in India, China, Indonesia, British Virgin Islands, and the United States.

The Miss World Organization also congratulated Julia Gama for her first runner-up placement in the recently concluded Miss Universe competition. Gama represented Brazil in the Miss World pageant back in 2014.

"We are so proud of both of you and delighted Andrea won, you really deserve it," the post read.

Enugu Police Command has denied claims it arrested 57 pro-Biafra agitators in Enugu, the state capital on Sunday.  THE RESTORATION OF BIAFRA NATION

Some agitators, who are members of the Benjamin Onwuka-led Biafra Zionists Federation (BZF), had on Sunday claimed policemen from Ogui Division stormed their meeting venue and whisked them away.

In a message he sent out on Sunday, leader of the group, Onwuka said: “They arrested 57 of our members this morning. We were preparing to go for our Biafra parade.

“We are non-violent people, we are peaceful agitators. They should be released immediately, unconditionally, without charge, they committed no crime.

“We have informed the United States of this development.”

But in a swift reaction, Enugu Police spokesman, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, denied arresting the agitators.

He rather explained that 54 persons were seen to be unlawfully gathered at Owerri Road, Ogui, Enugu and brought to the headquarters for questioning.

“After nothing incriminating was found on them, the commissioner of police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, addressed and cautioned them to go home and maintain peace. They all left happily,” he said.

Onwuka had few days ago announced they would storm the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, on May 30, for a Biafra parade.

Markets in various parts of Aba, the commercial nerve city of Abia State on Saturday witnessed huge numbers of shoppers as they make last-minute purchases of perishable and non-perishable items 48hrs ahead of the May 31st Sit-At-Home Biafra Day celebration. THE RESTORATION OF BIAFRA NATION

Our correspondent who went round various places in Aba including Ariaria International Market, Power Line, Bakassi Shoe Plaza, Ahia Ohuru, Shopping Center and Cemetery markets respectively reports that a lot of residents and visitors were seen making their last shopping preparatory to the sit-at-home call by the IPOB.

At Milverton off Asa road and Hospital road by Mosque, many persons, especially those who are travelling to other parts of the country that were in Aba to buy either footwears or clothing materials were seen inspecting their goods as they were being loaded in various luxurious buses.

Unlike other Saturdays in Aba, the roads were busy with passengers and vehicles coming in and leaving Aba in droves.

Transport fares at the time of filing the report have not been affected by the surge, but some of the shoppers including Mr. and Mrs. Essien who told our correspondent that they came to Aba from Ghana after attending a function in Enugu State complained of a hike in the price of goods and commodities.

According to Mr. and Mrs. Essien, they had to cut short their stay in Enugu to enable them to come to Aba to shop as Monday is expected to be observed as a sit-at-home.

The couple who recalled being trapped sometime in the east as a result of the sit-at-home exercise stated that they would be boarding a bus to Lagos tonight in order not to be caught in the web of the sit-at-home order.

A trader, Mr. Vincent Chiemela stated that the traders are selling their goods with caution as they would not predict what will be the outcome of the Monday sit-at-home order, but denied a hike in prices of goods and other essential commodities.

According to Chiemela, whatever price of goods in the market is determined by the suppliers of such goods.

Meanwhile, the Abia State Police Command has enjoined residents and visitors to the state to disregard the IPOB, MASSOB or any other Pro-Biafra group sit-at-home order.

This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, on Saturday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede urged Abians to go about their lawful duties and businesses without any fear of intimidation or molestation.

Ogbonna who assured the residents of the safety of their lives and properties during and after Monday, May 31st stated that the police in conjunction with other sister agencies were working round the clock to ensure that Abia is safe.

He enjoined parents to warn their children against involving in violence and any other anti-social activities, stressing that the police and other security agencies would ensure that Abia remains peaceful and conducive for business and economic activities to thrive.

IPOB Sit-at-home: Condemnations trail Nnamdi Kanu’s threat to South-east residents

 Mr Kanu threatened death to anyone who fails to observe the sit-at-home order.

Condemnations have trailed the threat issued to people of South-east by the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on the sit-at-home order.

Mr Kanu had in a broadcast declared that the sit-at-home will commence 6p.m. on Saturday till 6p.m. on Monday.

He said the order is compulsory and must be obeyed by all the people in the region. He warned that anyone seen outside will be killed.

“From 6p.m. on the 29th, there will be no movement, this is not sit-at-home but no movement. If you are found outside from 6p.m. you are dead,” he said.

Those who reacted on Saturday condemned the threat by Mr Kanu, stating that it was wrong to threaten the lives of the same people he claims to be fighting for their freedom.

Others noted that the exercise is voluntary and warned Mr Kanu to stop using coercion to get the people to comply.
