BIAFRA : Nigerian military bombing, secretly killing Igbos – Nnamdi Kanu alleges

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has accused the Nigerian military of secretly killing Igbo people in Akwa Ibom and other states.

Kanu claimed that the military was killing Igbo people and labelling them as unknown gunmen.

He alleged that the military was using their aircraft to bomb people of Essien in Akwa Ibom State and some other communities in Benue State.

Kanu spoke through the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, in a statement issued on Friday.

The statement reads: “We, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to bring to the attention of the world how Nigeria government and her security operatives are massacring innocent Biafrans in Essien Udim Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State and some communities in Benue State.

“The Nigerian military has been killing these innocent and hapless citizens, claiming they are the unknown gunmen behind the spate of attacks against security formations in these regions.

“The Nigeria military has been using their aircraft to bomb the people of Essien as well as Benue people, claiming they are fighting the unknown gunmen purportedly hiding in the areas. This has again exposed the hypocrisy of the Fulani controlled Nigeria military. They cannot use their aircraft against terrorists and bandits daily killing their soldiers as well as civilians like flies but zealous to bomb Biafran territories under the guise of searching for unknown gunmen.

“In February, it was Orlu in Imo State that they massacred civilians using their aircraft. Now it’s Essien Udim in Akwa Ibom and Benue States. But an Islamic cleric has been dinning and winning with terrorists, taking pictures with them, yet the double-faced Nigerian military cannot use its aircraft to trace their locations.

“How can a responsible military use helicopter gunboats and military jets against ordinary citizens? Boko Haram and other Fulani terrorists group have been killing soldiers and police in the North East and North West without soldiers terrorizing innocent civilians.”

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Enugu on Thursday, the Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, expressed worry over the continued attack on EEDC installations in the South-East by some unscrupulous elements, noting that “these activities undermine the efforts being made by the company to improve its service quality to customers.”

He said, “in the course of interrogation, it was gathered that the trio are suspected to have masterminded the attack on Ibollo 500KVA distribution substation at Oraifite, Anambra State late March, 2021.”

“Since the beginning of this year, the rate of vandalism across our network has been on the rise, as over 120 distribution substations have been attacked, and items worth millions of Naira vandalised”, Ezeh lamented.

Some of the items usually vandalized include: armored cables, intermediate cables, feeder pillars units, transformer oil, bare conductors.

“Vandalism still remains a cog in the wheel of progress and constitutes a very big distraction to our organization as we continuously channel resources ought to be used for other meaningful projects to replace vandalized items” Ezeh stated.

In a related development, a security man attached to Welder Estate, Agu-Awka, Awka Anambra State, identified as Adams Taiwo, has been charged to court for attacking a staff of EEDC, inflicting machete cut on his arms and maliciously vandalizing a Toyota Hilux truck belonging to EEDC, damaging the front windscreen, four side windscreen and back traffic light.

Sport Europa League Man United were “lucky” to be awarded penalty against Granada – Paul Scholes

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, has said that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were “lucky” to be awarded a late penalty during their Europa League quarter-final first-leg 2-0 win against Granada on Thursday in Spain.

Man United looked like they were going to take a 1-0 lead back to Old Trafford when they were awarded a 90th minute penalty.

Granada’s Yan Eteki was judged by the referee to have blocked Bruno Fernandes, who then converted the penalty.

Marcus Rashford had scored for the Red Devils in the first half.

But Scholes believes Fernandes “fooled” the referee to get the penalty.

“He makes a meal of it. I think he’s lucky to get the penalty. Lucky to score it as well as the goalkeeper should do better,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“You know what it’s given, and it goes to VAR. They are going to give it because it’s not a clear and obvious error, and he has touched him, so there’s no way they were going to overturn it.

“Fernandes does very well to get the penalty, they will be very disappointed. He was just feeling where his player is, and the ball is nowhere near him anyway.”

“It was always Cavani going to get the header. Fernandes was very clever, and he fooled the referee, and he fell for it.”

Man United will face Granada in the return leg next Thursday in England.

Politics : Imo attacks Gov Uzodinma was aware, DSS alerted police three times – Ex-Director, Amachree

Dennis Amachree, a former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, has revealed that the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, was aware that the state’s prison and the police headquarters was about to be attacked.

Amachree also said that the DSS alerted the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, at least three times before the Monday attacks in Imo.

The ex-DSS Director spoke on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday.

Recall that some unknown gunmen had on Monday attacked the police headquarters and the Correctional Centre in Owerri and freed hundreds of inmates.

According to Amachree, “There was enough intelligence, enough actionable intelligence. Actionable in the sense that it allows for space for people to execute it, one week ahead of the event and of course, 72 hours before the event and then 48 hours before the event.

“So, three times, the Nigeria Police Force was informed by the DSS that this is going to happen because some suspects that are being geolocated around the area were found surveilling the prisons and the police headquarters, but you know in our lackadaisical way, when the intelligence came, they threw it by the side, and when something happens, everybody runs around.

“All security reports are shared with the governor in a state first. Then, it’s shared with other sister agencies like the police and the military, all of them got this particular report. So, the governor is very much aware.”

“Apparently, nothing was done [to stop the attacks]. You can see that the governor was referring to that particular report that it’s not IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra).”
