Torreira confirms he wants to leave Arsenal after mother’s death

Arsenal midfielder, Lucas Torreira, has said he wants to join Boca Juniors in order to be closer to his family, following his mother’s death.

In an emotional interview with ESPN Argentina, Torreira who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, confirmed his mother had passed after a battle with COVID-19.

The Uruguay international also admitted he has long dreamed of playing for Boca, and he intends to fulfil the wish of his father by returning to South America.

Torreira said: “I am trying to understand the situation. It is difficult to come to terms with it but as time passes, we will come to live with this pain.

“My mother was 53 years old and died from Covid. There was an outbreak in Fray Bentos (Torreira’s hometown in Uruguay) and she spent 11 days fighting but on Monday morning I received the worst news.

“I asked Atletico for some time off. Cholo (manager Diego Simeone) understood everything and they gave me a week, but I asked to stay for a little longer. On Sunday I will probably return. I have to do my duty and life must continue. Atletico have been very good to me and it’s important.

“It’s not a violent emotion, a crazy decision because of my mother. I have always said that I want to play for Boca. I’m dying to play for Boca and I will always say it. The night my mother died, one of the first to hear the news was my agent. I don’t want to play in Europe anymore, I want to play for Boca.”

Sports, Man Utd suffer major injury blow ahead of Brighton, Granada games

Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial for their next two games at least, according to L’Equipe.

Martial is believed to have suffered a knee injury while on international duty with France.

The forward picked up the injury during their 2-0 win over Kazakhstan in World Cup qualifying and missed their 1-0 victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday night.

France manager, Didier Deschamps, tried to allay fears over the severity of Martial’s problem by saying it “is nothing serious”.

But fresh reports say the problem with keep him out of Sunday’s Premier League game against Brighton.

The 25-year-old will be a doubt for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Granada next Thursday.

The news will come as a blow to United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is also likely to be without Mason Greenwood for the Brighton game, after he had to withdraw from the Under-21s European Championship last week due to injury.

How police used mobile phone to track one of Soludo’s attackers

Fresh facts have emerged that one of the suspected attackers of the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and governorship aspirant of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Charles Soludo, was arrested after his phone was tracked by security operatives.

Anambra Police Command had earlier stated in a press release that one person, whose name it failed to release, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime.

A senior police officer, who spoke toat the state police command’s headquarters on the condition of anonymity, said one of the suspects lost his phone during the attack, and was picked by police operatives, who used it to track him down.

“One of the killers forgot his phone at the scene of the attack, and we found it when the CP visited the place. We tracked down the owner and arrested him, and he is helping us with investigation.

“As at the time the CP arrived at the scene of the attack, the men were still moving, one of them was even muttering something, but we could not hear him. They were certified dead at the hospital,” the source said.

Meanwhile,  gathered that police officers and men in Anambra State police command have been barred from wearing their uniforms to work to reduce the risk of attacks on them.

The source said: “It is a directive from the hierarchy of the command. Police officers now carry their uniforms in bas to the office, before changing into them.”

correspondent who moved round the state capital, Awka, observed that there are no roadblocks by policemen on all the roads visited, as all designated points for roadblocks have been dismantled as a result of the recent wave of attack.

FOOLS NIGERIANS : Buhari is going nowhere – Tacha slams Nigerians calling for President’s resignation

Former Big Brother Naija, BBNaija, housemate, Anita Natacha Akide, also known as Tacha has taken a swipe at Nigerians who are calling for President Mohammadu Buhari’s resignation.

The Reality Tv star, in a video shared via her Twitter handle, said Buhari is not going anywhere until he completes his tenure.

She pointed out that the only way Nigerians can fulfil their dreams of having competent leaders in positions of authority is when they get involved in the election processes which includes coming out to cast their votes during an election.

Tacha also slammed Nigerians who are always quick to go online to rant while taking a cue from a recently held by-election in Abia State where a small number of registered voters came out to vote.

“Nigerians forming woke but na we silly pass. So now it’s Buhari must go that is currently trending.

“Everyone in Nigeria knows that Buhari is not going anywhere until he completes his tenure so what is the need really?

“There was a by-election in Abia state and out of 500,000 registered voters, only 16,000 came out to vote. That is like 3 people out of 100 people. It is as good as nothing.

“How do we keep complaining about bad governance and we do not want to get involved in governance.

“How do you get involved in governance? By seeing it as an obligation to use your voter cards to vote. The voter card is not going to vote by itself. You need to use it.

“That mindset of ours need to change. We want good governance, we need to vote in good governance.” She said.

BIAFRA : Ebonyi, Enugu massacre: IPOB’s ESN will avenge killings – Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday vowed that the Eastern Security Network, ESN, would avenge the killings in Ebonyi and Enugu States.

Kanu alleged that the killings in Enugu and Ebonyi States have exposed the fact that security agents are working with killer herders in the Southeast.

The IPOB leader stressed that security agents are allegedly covering up killer herdsmen.

Kanu, who spoke through IPOB’s National Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, wondered why security agents have not been able to apprehend those responsible for the massacre.

A statement by Powerful reads: “It is now obvious that the Nigeria military and other security agencies are providing cover for Fulani herdsmen on killing spree in South East and South South. With the recent massacre of innocent Biafrans in Enugu and Ebonyi States by these blood sucking vampires, nobody is still left in doubt that the security agencies have been giving them tacit support.

“The inability of the double-faced Nigeria security agencies to arrest or go after these Killers days after the genocidal attacks is a confirmation of our position that the Nigeria security agencies despite their pretence provide cover for terrorists disguising as Fulani herdsmen in Southern Nigeria.

“Where are the military helicopter gunboats that were buzzing over Orlu airspace in search of ESN operatives in February? Where are the heavily armed brutal soldiers that massacred unarmed Biafran agitators in morning exercise at Emene? Where are the wicked DSS operatives daily hunting and abducting IPOB members and other Biafran agitators?

“These terrorists in security uniform are zealously arresting unarmed and peaceful agitators but too weak and unwilling to touch their fellow terrorists smoking lives out of innocent Indigenous Nigerians. Why can’t Nigeria Fulani terrorists in military uniform trace those that attacked 4 villages in Ebonyi and Enugu States?

“But we assure them that these genocides will not go unpunished. Our gallant ESN personnel will respond proportionately! We are prepared for them. We knew a time like this will come, and that was why our proactive Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu floated ESN ahead of time to defend Biafrans against these blood suckers.

“Again, we vow that ESN will avenge the blood of the innocent Biafrans spilled by these demons from Sahel! But woe betide any hypocrite in DSS, police or military uniform that will rise to their defense when ESN pays them back in their own coin.

“The die is cast! That dark moment that our leader saw many years ago has finally dawned. Those who want ESN outlawed should provide an alternative now that the Killers are on the prowl!”

Wike bought two armoured vehicles for Nigerian Air Force to fight sea pirates, they diverted them

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has hit the Nigerian Air Force for failing to thank the state government for buying two armoured helicopters for them.

Wike said the armoured helicopters worth over $10 million that the state government gave to the Nigerian Air Force to fight crude oil theft and sea piracy in the state have been diverted to fight Boko Haram.

The governor stated this at the re-launch of the defunct C4i, a security architecture put in place by the previous administration to fight insecurity in Rivers State.

The Governor, who pledged to continue to provide all Security agencies in the state with logistic support, said cases where hoodlums ambush police officers and cart away their arms should be a thing of the past, adding that, “in pursuit of our desire to ensure the safety of lives and property in Rivers State, we today re-launched Rivers State’s security outfit tagged C4I.

His words, “Personnel of the outfit which comprises 400 policemen and 200 civil defence personnel have in the last month been specially trained in relevant skills to ensure they carry out their duty efficiently.

“Let the Nigerian Air Force know that the Rivers State Government gave them two armoured helicopters. The former Chief of Air Staff never wrote to thank us. Which state has done it for Nigerian Air Force in this country? Not one. Even while he was former Chief of Air Staff, he never came here to thank us. But he was using our own armoured helicopter,” he said.
