“He was then asked to step down from the vehicle along with two others. The rest were allowed to continue the journey.

“The other two passengers were later released on the ground that they are very poor people and of no use”, the source disclosed.

In recent years, terrorist groups have targeted UN facilities and its staff in Nigeria.

In July 2020, the UN alerted that insurgents operate checkpoints.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, raised the alarm in his reaction to the execution of aid workers by Boko Haram.

US, Senators vow to stop Biden’s swearing-in

About eleven Senators and senators-elect of the Republican Party have vowed to stop the swearing-in of President-elect, Joe Biden.

Biden, who contested the November 3, 2020 presidential election on the platform of the Democratic Party and defeated the incumbent President, Donald Trump, is scheduled to be sworn in on 20th January, 2020.

But top Republican senators and some newly elected ones said they intend to appeal the upcoming certification of the outcome of the election.

The senators are led by Texas Senator, Ted Cruz.

In a joint statement on Saturday, they said that they will vote against the certification of electors from states where Trump has disputed Democrat Biden’s victory.

Recall that up till date, President Trump has not conceded defeat even after losing most of the court cases he filed challenging Biden’s win.

In justifying their plans, the Senators claimed that the election “featured unprecedented allegations of voter fraud, violations and lacked enforcement of election law, and other voting irregularities.

“We intend to vote on Jan. 6 to reject the electors from disputed states as not ‘regularly given’ and ‘lawfully certified’ (the statutory requisite), unless and until (an) emergency 10-day audit is completed,” they said in the statement.

In a similar but separate action, another Republican lawmaker, Senator Josh Hawley had vowed to join with some Republican House of Representatives members to object to the certification of the election results.

Deeper Life School, Don Davis reveals names of students who allegedly abused him sexually

Don Davis, the student of Deeper Life High School, Uyo Campus, who was allegedly

assaulted by senior students of the school, has disclosed names of his abusers.

had earlier reported his mother’s narrative on how the JSS 1 student of the Deeper Life school was allegedly abused because of bedwetting.

She also accused Akwa Ibom State Government officials and some parents of the indicted students of intimidation.

In a 45-minutes live Facebook session on Saturday, Davis narrated his experience in the hands of the senior students he simply identified as Ola and Shalom.

He disclosed that the senior students allegedly assaulted him by inserting their hands into his anus and bringing out faeces whenever others were sleeping.

In the video moderated by his mother, Davis said he could not report to the school authorities because his abusers in senior secondary school one (SSI) threatened to kill him.

“They transferred me from JSS1 dormitory to SS1 because I bed-wet.

“There were two boys there, Ola and Shalom; they put their hands in my anus, brought out faeces from there. It made me feel somehow, and they used the hands to beat me.

“They did this to me by midnight when everybody was sleeping.

“They told me not to tell anybody, or they would kill me, so I never reported it. The housemaster didn’t know they did this; he would be asleep. If I had told the vice principal, they would have killed me.”

He also revealed that he was beaten up and starved by a teacher in the school identified as Mr Akpan. He claimed Mr Akpan would always beat him with a belt, stick and stones.

“Mr Akpan beats me with anything he sees. Mr Akpan beats me because I wet my bed,” Davis said.

” One day that Mr Akpan was beating me, Mr Michael came to ‘bail me’. Mr Michael asked me if Akpan wanted to kill me. Mr Akpan said he didn’t care.”

He added that he relied on biscuits and soft drinks from the shop at the hostel to satisfy his hunger because Mr Akpan always asks him to go back to the hostel when it’s time to eat.

BIAFRA : Igbos are marginalized but not an excuse to disintegrate – political pundit

A political pundit residing in Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmed Bakers has said that there

is no doubt that the Igbo’s are seriously marginalized in the country due to the civil war that occurred between 1966 and 1970.

The political analyst explained that the agitation of the Igbos needs to be considered due to the fact that the country is now a united entity.

Ahmed noted that since the end of the civil war, the Igbo’s have been denied the seat of the presidency in the country that they are equally entitled to.

He said that power drunk politicians from the North and West who are still clamouring for the presidential seat in 2023 do not have any good intention for the unity and peace of the country.

“We all are aware that after the civil war in 1970, the then Head of state, General Yakubu Gowon said that there was no Victor no vanquish” he thundered.

“I am from the northern part of Nigeria and I am not in any way supporting such selfish ambition because the north has enjoyed power in this country for a long period, likewise the western part of Nigeria.”

However, Ahmed advised the Igbo’s to fight for their right through a way that can be justified by everybody in the world.

“There is no where in this whole wide world that peace can reign without justice because justice remains the backbone of peace anywhere in the world”

He cautioned the people in the corridors of power to ensure that there is justice in Nigeria’s political set up, stressing that the Igbos have contributed a lot to the Nigerian project.

“I am, therefore, making a case for the unity of Nigeria because without considering the Igbos for presidency in 2023, the problem of Nigeria’s politics will still remain.”

According to him, there is no reason reasonable enough to deny the Igbos their legitimate rights in this political set up of Nigeria.

Ozobu committee releases modalities

The Prince Richard Ozobu-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo Election Committee has released modalities for the exercise.

As the tenure of the current Ohanaeze exco ends this January, there are controversies over the upcoming election, leading to the formation of parallel election committees.

Addressing journalists in Enugu on Sunday, Ozobu said the local government election must hold before the national exercise.

“Every attention has been on the seat of the President-General, which of course falls under the National Election.

“But we must follow the Ohanaeze constitution to the letters. What it means is that the local government election will come first between the 8th and 9th of January.

“This will be followed by the State election during which three delegates that will take part in the national election shall emerge; that is the process and modality for this election and we are not going to alter it,” he stated.

He said his committee was interested in giving Ndigbo a credible election that would stand the test of time.
The committee chairman also accused the Ohanaeze President-General, Chief Nnia Nwodo of perpetuating illegality.

He said it was regrettable that despite being a lawyer, Nwodo was flouting the Ohanaeze Constitution with impunity.

He added that the main essence of Ohanaeze had been defeated under Nwodo.

“Ohanaeze was founded to protest socio-political interest, Igbo interest, economic interest, it is not purely for politics, every Igbo man is supposed to be a member of Ohanaeze, you don’t have to be a card-carrying member of a political party.

“Now, to conduct an election, we have a constitution and the present executive was sworn-in with that constitution, but they are not abiding by it, since day one, and we can’t find a reason why,” he said.

When asked how Nwodo violated the constitution, Ozobu said, “in several ways; only the Secretary-General has the right to summon Imeobi, but that has not been complied with; even the day they talked about suspension of the Secretary-General and the youth president, they said the motion was moved by the Chairman of Ohanaeze in Anambra State, but by the constitution of Ohanaeze the said person is not even a member of Imeobi, so what was he doing there to move a motion. Besides, the Constitution also expressly provides that the said persons can only be removed by the General Assembly, so you cannot even raise the issue of suspension at Imeobi. It is there in black and white at Arlicel 21.”

While faulting the electoral process earlier set in motion by Nwodo, he said, “the meeting he called Imeobi was not properly summoned and constituted and that is why a constitutionally constituted Imeobi has now met and did the needful.

“We were at Owerri, Imo State, where Imeobi was properly summoned by the Secretary-General and forum formed, and an election committee was set up, I didn’t expect to be part of it but they prevailed upon me, and I had to accept it for the service of Ndigbo.

“Now, I want to announce to Ndigbo that we have set in motion a machinery for a credible election, it is not just for the position of the President-General, it is for the entire structure, starting from local government, State to National level.

“We are going to make sure that delegates that will appear at the National Election are actually those elected at the State level.”

On the timing, Ozobu declared: “I must say that this process ought to have started three months ago. So, why was it delayed? As it stands now, we can’t have a hurried process that would not stand the test of time. What is the essence of a constitution?

“From our plan, the exercise would be completed before the end of this month of January. If we get the cooperation required from all the stakeholders, it will be completed within one month.

“We are calling on the council of elders, the traditional rulers and the governors to give us the maximum support and cooperation.

“I assure Ndigbo that at the end of this exercise, we will have a very strong Ohanaeze, better than what we have had in recent years, better structure.”
