Arsenal vs Chelsea, Arteta under fire for selecting three players

Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, has questioned why Mikel Arteta is keeping faith in the same players despite the club’s poor form this season.

The Gunners spent Christmas Day in 15th place and they face a tough Boxing Day clash against Chelsea.

Wright has now said Arteta isn’t making life easier for himself ahead of a crunch period of matches.

After Chelsea, the Gunners face crunch away games at Brighton and West Brom, which could either see them move away from the danger zone or sink deeper.

Wright has called Arteta to change his approach for the forthcoming matches, starting by dropping some big names.

“I have to say, from my point of view, with the manager and the players he’s picking now, I think people like Emile Smith Rowe and Joe Willock and those guys, I’d like to see them have a chance,” he said on Optus Sport’s The Kelly and Wrighty Show.

“That’s simply because you’re looking at the Willians, it’s not happening and he’s not playing well. Why are you playing people like Kolasinac? Why are you playing someone like Mustafi?

“I’d rather see [William] Saliba who is playing in the Under-23s, I’d rather see Smith Rowe and I’d rather see something different.”

EPL, Klopp reveals reason why Salah might leave Liverpool for Real Madrid, Barcelona

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has insisted Mohammed Salah is happy at the club and would only consider leaving because of the poor weather in the city.

Salah gave an interview last week where he was asked about playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona one day.

The Egyptian’s response was non-committal, but Klopp is not concerned.

“We could all look for something else if we want. But I think the only reason to leave Liverpool at the moment is the weather.

“What other reason could be there? This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, we pay good money. Maybe not the most in the world, but we pay good and we have a sensational stadium with outstanding supporters and we have a fan base all around the world.

“Our colours are red, which is the nicest colour anyway. You cannot force people to stay, but that is it. It is all about timing, the right moment, stuff like this,” Klopp said.

Arsenal vs Chelsea, Arteta reveals EPL games to determine relegation fight

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said the clubs next Premier League fixture in one week, will be crucial to their Premier League status.

Arteta is under heavy pressure after the Gunners’ worst start to a season since 1974.

The 38-year-old retains the support of senior figures at the Emirates and belief in his long-term vision remains.

But results must improve with a home game against Chelsea on Saturday and trips to relegation-threatened Brighton and West Brom either side of New Year’s Day.

“The next seven to eight days are going to be crucial to see where we’re going to be heading to in the Premier League,” Arteta said.

“The best medicine when you are in this situation is to win a football match. Every defeat is another hurting moment, another moment of disappointment, another moment you have to lift yourself and that’s what we’ve got to do.

“I think the medicine for all of us would be to come here against Chelsea, beat them and then move from there. It’s exactly what we all need.”

Arsenal vs Chelsea, Arteta names strongest team in EPL

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said Chelsea has the “strongest squad in the Premier League” ahead of their Boxing Day clash.

The Gunners defeated Frank Lampard’s men in August’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

However, the two London clubs have experienced vastly contrasting fortunes ever since.

While Chelsea has spent more than £220 million in the summer transfer market and is placed just outside the Champions League after 14 games, Arteta’s men are just four points above the relegation zone having lost eight times, including four of their last five league matches.

Arteta will be without his biggest summer signing, Thomas Partey, and club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a doubt with a calf problem.

The Blues are missing Hakim Ziyech due to a hamstring injury and Ben Chilwell is a doubt with an ankle knock but their other four acquisitions Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Edouard Mendy are fit.

“Obviously Chelsea always has a great squad of great players,” Arteta said.

“The team that we faced a few months ago was a top one.

“At this moment, you’re probably talking about the strongest squad in the Premier League. They’re doing a really good job, Frank [Lampard] is doing a really good job. He’s got a team full of belief and confidence, and even though they had some defeats, they got back to winning on Monday [beating West Ham 3-0] and it’s a team that is going to be fighting for the top spot in the league for sure.

“I wouldn’t like to compare [them with Arsenal]. What they did seems to be working fine and at the moment we are not there.”

Arsenal vs Chelsea, Ozil in talks over £200,000 pay cut

Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil, has held talks over a move to Fenerbahce which would see him take a pay cut of around £200,000-a-week, BILD reports.

Ozil has not featured for the Gunners since March.

Mikel Arteta also left him out of the squads for both the Premier League and Europa League this season.

It is now understood that Ozil has been involved in covert talks with the Turkish giants in London over a deal in the region of £150,000-a-week.

It represents a huge drop from his current £350,000-a-week wages at the Emirates.

But any move is unlikely to take place when the transfer window opens next month, instead happening in the summer.

EPL, Blow for Man City as Jesus, Walker test positive for COVID-19

Two Manchester City players, Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus have both tested positive for coronavirus, the club confirmed on Friday.

Two members of the club’s staff have also tested positive, but the club chose not to reveal their identities.

Defender Walker and striker Jesus will now miss their Premier League matches against Newcastle, Everton and Chelsea.

The duo is likely to return for City’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester United on January 6.

“All four personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine,” City said in a statement released on Friday morning.

“Everyone at the club wishes our colleagues a speedy recovery over the Christmas period ahead of their return to work, training and competition.”

The positive tests come as the UK experiences a surge in COVID-19 cases, with the 39,036 confirmed on Thursday marking it the second-highest daily total since the pandemic began.
