  The Presidency on Wednesday alerted the general public on an alleged smear campaign in the works against President Muhammadu Buhari and his office by those it described as disgruntled political elements in the country. According to Femi Adesina, in a statement on Wednesday, these politicians have been shopping for pliant online media that will serve as accomplices in their nefarious act. Adesina claimed that these politicians’ game plan is to launch campaign of calumny in the coming days against the President. NEWS : New Kwara Police Commissioner takes over

  Mohammed Lawal Bagega, newly posted Commissioner of Police for Kwara State, assumed office on Wednesday in Ilorin, the state capital. He took over from the former police commissioner, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, who has been posted to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Lawal, hails from Bagega in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara state, and holds a Bachelor of science degree (Bsc) in political science, from the University of Sokoto. After his youth service in Plateau state, he enlisted in the Nigerian police force as a young cadet officer on March 1st, 1990, and served in various capacities in different commands and formations, including, Osun, Bauchi, Delta, Lagos, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kano, Jigawa and Imo state police commands. NEWS : Gunmen kill corps member – NYSC

  The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday said that 17 corps members were accosted by a gang of armed robbers whose sporadic gun shots killed a corps member, Bomoi Yusuf. Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, Director, Press and Public Relations of the scheme, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. Adeyemi narrated that 17 corps members that completed the 2020 Batch “B” Stream 1B orientation programme at Ede, Osun State, on Tuesday,were accosted along Jere-Abuja Expressway by a gang of armed robbers whose sporadic gun shots unfortunately killed corps member Bomoi Yusuf. However, 16 other corps members were never abducted She noted that the death of any corps member is a big loss, not just to his family, but to the scheme and the entire Nation at large. ”Management wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the family of Late corps member Yusuf and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the painful loss,” she added.

  Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard, has given fitness updates on Hakim Ziyech, Reece James and Ben Chilwell ahead of their clash with Arsenal. The Blues will climb into the top four places if they pick up a second-successive victory against the Gunners. Lampard’s men bounced back from a two-match losing run by defeating West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. They will be hoping to continue their run, but will be without Ziyech. Asked if the 27-year-old will be available for selection against Arsenal, Lampard told a pre-match press conference: “No, he won’t be fit for Arsenal.” Lampard went on to confirm James and Chilwell are both doubts for the fixture and a meeting with Aston Villa on December 28.   Shkodran Mustafi’s agent, Emre Ozturk, seems to have confirmed that talks have taken place with Barcelona over a possible move for the player in the January transfer window. The 28-year-old defender is yet to start a Premier League fixture under Mikel Arteta and looks set for the exit door, with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign. It is understood Mustafi turned down the Gunners’ offer of a new deal in the summer and there has been mounting speculation that the German could be set for a switch to the Camp Nou.   Manchester is set to complete its first January signing after agreeing on a deal for Moises Caicedo, according to Diario Extra. Caicedo, 19, has attracted interest from RB Leipzig and AC Milan, but United seem to have won the race for his signature. The Red Devils have negotiated a fee of around £4.5million plus add-ons. Caicedo impressed during his four appearances in World Cup qualifiers for Ecuador and scored his first goal in a 4-2 victory over Uruguay in October. The midfielder currently plays his football with Independiente del Valle, but the club became resigned to losing him earlier this month. “We have received an offer from a European club for Moises Caicedo, we are negotiating the proposal,” said the club’s manager Santiago Morales. “It is most likely that he will not be in our team in 2021 due to the proposal we’ve received, it is very difficult to keep him.”

SPORT : Maradona’s autopsy results revealed

  Diego Maradona’s autopsy has shown the Argentina legend had no alcohol or narcotic drugs in his body when he died, ESPN reports. Maradona died on November 25 at the age of 60, two weeks after being released from a Buenos Aires hospital following brain surgery. Earlier this month, a preliminary autopsy revealed that he died in his sleep of acute pulmonary oedema, a build-up of fluid in the lungs due to congestive heart failure. The latest toxicological report, however, detected no alcohol or illegal substances, except the presence of psychotropic drugs used to treat anxiety and depression. The autopsy also indicated that aside from the heart and lungs, Maradona’s kidneys and liver were damaged. The report also revealed that the heart of the 1986 World Cup winner weighed almost twice that of a normal heart.
