POLITICS : 2023, What Igbo presidency will do for Nigeria – Isa Yuguda

A former governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, has said that an Igbo presidency will strengthen Nigeria.

Ahead of the next general election in 2023, certain groups and individuals have been asking that the South-East produce the next president.

Disagreeing with the calls for restructuring, Yuguda, speaking with The Sun, stressed that the Southeast be allowed to take a shot at the presidency.

“The east should be given a shot for the presidency, but should not be seen as a right, but comfort in the minds of our brothers and sisters. That as a region, they have had it too.

“If north-south is flying for now, why not north-west and east fly? If that will strengthen our unity and faith in our country, why can’t we have it? Igbo presidency will strengthen our country.

“No region will be better off in the event of restructuring because of the uniqueness of Nigeria. Let’s strive to have patriotic and God-fearing leadership that will place Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and development,” he said.

news : I caught my wife touching her lover – Man tells court

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos has dissolved a 16-year-old marriage on adultery charges filed by a husband against his wife, saying he could no longer tolerate her infidelity.

NAN reports that the court’s President, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, granted the prayer and dissolved the marriage with a declaration: “Both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife”.

Koledoye said that since the petitioner had insisted on a divorce, after several interventions, the court was left with no option than to grant him his prayer, despite his wife’s claim that she still loved him.

“Each of you should go on his or her separate ways unmolested; the court wishes both of you well in your future endeavours”, the President ruled as he gave the custody of the children to the petitioner, Ola.

He ordered Ola to pay severance of N150,000 to his wife for her to move on with her life.

Earlier, the husband, Mr Sola Ola, had petitioned the court, seeking dissolution of his marriage over his wife’s adulterous acts.

In his submission, he said: “I got information from people in our community that my wife was having extra-marital affairs, but I ignored it since there was no evidence to support it.

In his submission, he said: “I got information from people in our community that my wife was having extra-marital affairs, but I ignored it since there was no evidence to support it.

“In March, I received a call from somebody at 12:30 am to come and see my wife with one of her lovers at their hiding spot in a hotel.

”I rushed to the scene and caught her and her lover in a compromising position, touching each other,” he said.

According to the petitioner, since that day, his wife had refused to return home.

“Whenever we have a misunderstanding, she would bring out either a knife or a bottle threatening to stab me. My brothers seized three knives from her at different times; those knives are still with them,’’ Sola told the court.

The 55-year-old civil servant said Tola was troublesome and frequently fought with him and their neighbours, adding that she was also uncaring as she allowed her children to go to school without food.

Responding, 50-year-old Tola, the mother of three children, denied being wayward and promiscuous, saying, “I never had any extra-marital affairs.”

She submitted that Sola became hostile to her since he married another wife.

“My husband and I did not have any problem until five years ago when he married another woman. Since that time, he refused to eat my food and make love to me,” she added

SPORT : EPL, Mourinho reveals mistake that caused Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Leices

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho, has refused to blame Serge Aurier for a penalty he conceded in their 2-0 loss to Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

Aurier conceded a penalty in the first half when he fouled Wesley Fofana in the box.

In the Amazon documentary ‘Spurs All or Nothing’, Mourinho was caught on camera telling the Ivorian defender, that he was scared of him giving away a “sh*t penalty with VAR”.

He however labelled the one Aurier gave away today as a “mistake”.

“It was a mistake, not a moment of madness. I have to admit, you have to know where you are when you’re in the box.

“You have to know that the player was going away from goal without any kind of danger. You have to describe it as a mistake,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

BIAFRA : No plan to forcefully declare Biafra, says IPOB

By Emma Elekwa, Onitsha and Chris Njoku, Owerri

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday said it does not plan to declare a sovereign state of Biafra by force.

It said it would continue to push for independence through peaceful means, including a referendum.

IPOB, which announced the launch of a regional security outfit, said it has not floated an “army” but a guard in the mould of Amotekun in the Southwest.

Its spokesman, Emma Powerful, said: “Nigerian security agents are advised to refrain from any harassment or confrontation with the outfit because it’s not after them but out to deal with terrorists rampaging our communities.

“IPOB has no plan to forcefully declare Biafra but is rather working hard towards the restoration of Biafra through a referendum in accordance with international laws.

“We have not floated the Biafra Army but a mere regional security outfit in response to the yearnings of our people.”

Powerful said the outfit would ensure the safety of the forests and farmlands.

The statement added: “The sole aim and objective of this newly formed security outfit known as Eastern Security Network is to halt every criminal activity and terrorist attack on Biafraland.

“This outfit which is a vigilante group like the Amotekun in the Southwest and the Miyetti Allah security outfit will ensure the safety of our forests and farmlands which terrorists have converted into slaughter grounds and rape fields.

“Since the Southeast and Southsouth governors have failed to float a regional security outfit unlike their counterparts in the Southwest despite the worsening insecurity in the country, we have decided not to wait endlessly while our mothers and sisters are continually raped and slaughtered like fowls by terrorists in our land.

IPOB announces security outfit for south-east, south-south — ‘like Amotekun and Miyetti Allah’

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) says it has launched an outfit known as the Eastern Security Network (ESN) for the south-east and south-south regions.

In a statement on Sunday, Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesman, said the objective of the security network is to protect the south-east and south-south from “criminal activity”.

According to Powerful, the outfit is a replica of Amotekun launched by the governors of the south-west to curb insecurity in that region.

“The sole aim and objective of this newly formed security outfit known as Eastern Security Network is to halt every criminal activity and terrorist attack on Biafraland,” he said.

“This outfit, which is a vigilante group like the Amotekun in the south-west and the Miyetti Allah security outfit, will ensure the safety of our forests and farm lands which terrorists have converted into slaughter grounds and raping fields.”

The spokesman said the security outfit became necessary following what he described as the “failure” of the governors of the south-east and south-south to put in place measures that will protect the people in those regions.

“We can’t watch helplessly while those we are agitating to liberate from bondage are gradually being eliminated by terrorists,” he said.

“We, therefore, advise every robber, kidnapper and other criminals to steer clear of Biafra land or brace for the worst. We must defend Biafra no matter the price.

“Biafra security network personnel will release special phone numbers for people to call whenever there is any case of criminality, including kidnapping and robbery activities, in the whole of Biafra land.

“Every resident in Biafra land should use the numbers to report any criminal activity anywhere in Biafra land for prompt response.”

Powerful also called for an end to police harassment and brutality, adding that security checkpoints have become “extortion points”.

“Unnecessary police brutality on innocent citizens also must stop,” he said.

“Police and army checkpoints which have since been converted to extortion points should be dismantled. Any attempt to sabotage this security network will be stoutly resisted.”
