NEWS : Police confirms murder of PDP chieftain in Oyo

 The Police command in Oyo State has confirmed the murder of Dr Fatai Aborode, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, by unknown gunmen.

DAILY POST reported that Aborode was killed on his farm along Apodun road, Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state on Friday.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, in a statement on Saturday in Ibadan said the deceased was robbed and shot by four unknown gunmen at about 5.50 pm.

“At about 1750 hrs of 11/12/2020, along Apodun road Igangan, one Alh Fatal Aborode ‘m’ of Igangan, was robbed and shot by four unknown gunmen.

“The victim was rushed to Olugbon hospital, Igboora where he was confirmed dead.

“Effort is on to arrest the fleeing assailants,’’he said.

NEWS : Benue Ortom visits victims of herdsmen attack in hospital, takes over medical bills

 Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom on Saturday visited victims of herders attack at the hospital.

DAILY POST recalls that armed herdsmen invaded the community last night and killed four persons, leaving many others severely injured.

The victims who escaped the attack are receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital,Makurdi.

Ortom, addressing newsmen during the visit said the State Government would take over the treatment of those injured and are being treated.

He acknowledged President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to security agencies to tackle terrorists operating in the country,

The Governor stressed that his administration would not relent until herdsmen attacks on his people end.

NEWS : Abducted Taraba lawmaker, Bashir regains freedom

 

Hon. Bashir Muhammed, member representing Ngoroje at the Taraba State House of Assembly who was abducted by unknown gunmen has regained his freedom.

Mohammed regained freedom on Friday night.

DSP David Misar, the Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Taraba State command confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Saturday.

Recall that the lawmaker was seized after sporadic gunshots.

Misar said, “Yes, we are aware that he has been released and he came back home”

A family source who spoke to our correspondent refused to disclose whether Muhammed was released after payment of ransom to his abductors or not.

The source who refused to give his name said Muhammed was admitted at the Federal Medical Center, Jalingo upon his arrival.

He further disclosed that the lawmaker came back very sick with a dip cut on his head.

“He is currently on a hospital bed at FMC here in Jalingo. We are still praying for his life because he came back weak and sick, they cut him with a cutlass on his head on the day he was kidnapped.”

NEWS : Federal poly Offa expels student convicted of internet fraud

 

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa in Kwara State, has expelled a student, Oladipo Juwon, convicted of internet fraud.

Juwon, a Higher National Diploma (1)student of the institution, was sentenced by a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin to six months imprisonment, or with a fine of N250,000 for involving in internet fraud.

A press statement by the spokesperson for the polytechnic, Olayinka Iroye, on Friday, said the institution’s disciplinary committee’s report, recommended the expulsion of Juwon of the Business Administration department.

” Management of the polytechnic has expelled him from the institution, following the students’ disciplinary committe’s report which equally found him guilty of the offence, though he pleaded for leniency.”

The statement further said ” The offence violates the polytechnic’s code of conduct as clearly stated in the students’ information and regulations handbook Section 18.2.1, subsection (ix).

” The management strongly uses this medium to uphold its stance against cybercrime and internet fraud, cultism, hooliganism and other social vices.”

The school warned that it “Will not hesitate to sanction appropriately erring students in accordance with the polytechnic’s rules and regulations.”

It enjoined students to be of good behaviour and conduct themselves accordingly.

NEWS : Atiku reacts to death of Sam Nda-Isaiah, Publisher of Leadership Newspaper

 Former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the death of Sam Nda- Isaiah, Publisher of Leadership Newspaper.

Atiku, who expressed shock over Nda-Isaiah’s death, said the deceased can-do spirit would be missed.

Nda-Isaiah, a former presidential aspirant and Publisher had died after a brief illness.

Reacting to his death, Atiku, in a series of tweets wrote: “I am shocked and saddened by the death of the publisher and chairman of @LeadershipNGA, Sam Nda- Isaiah. Sam’s can-do spirit, coupled with his boldness and innovativeness embodied the very best of the #NigerianSpirit. He will be sorely missed.

“My condolences to his family and friends, management and staff of Leadership Newspaper Group, Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian Union of Journalists. May his memory be a blessing.”

President Donald Trump criticized the Supreme Court on Friday after it rejected a legal challenge that would overturn the results of the presidential election.

• The lawsuit, which was brought by Texas and joined by other Republican-led states, sought to have the election results overturned in four states. The court rejected it due to lack of standing.

President Donald Trump criticized the US Supreme Court on Friday after it rejected a legal challenge aimed at overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election.

"The Supreme Court really let us down," he said in a tweet. "No Wisdom, No Courage!"

The lawsuit, which was brought by the Texas attorney general and joined by other Republican-led states, sought to have the election results overturned in four states, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.

The court said that Texas lacked the standing to bring the case.

Trump decried the decision, noting the many "wonderful" states and Republican officials who supported the case.

"But, within a flash, it is thrown out and gone, without even looking at the many reasons it was brought," he said. "A Rigged Election, fight on!"

Prior to the decision, the president had hyped up the importance of the case. He has also suggested in the past that the election would be decided at the Supreme Court.

The court, which currently has a conservative majority, includes three judges appointed by Trump himself, Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.

The legal challenge was the latest attempt by Trump and his allies to subvert the election and was denounced by many as a legally dubious attempt to have judges intervene in the democratic process.

The loss adds to a string of defeats by the Trump campaign and other Republican officials who have challenged the election results in court, largely to no avail .

President-elect Joe Biden welcomed the Supreme Court's decision, saying in a statement the court "decisively and speedily rejected the latest of Donald Trump and his allies' attacks on the democratic process."

42% of Voters Say Trump Will Be Known as 'One of Worst' Presidents in History: Fox News Poll

In a recent Fox News poll, 42 percent of respondents said that history would remember President Donald Trump as one of the worst presidents of all time.

The poll also found that 54 percent of respondents have an unfavorable view of Trump, 52 percent disapprove of the job he's doing as president, 55 percent think the country is worse off today than it was four years ago, the same percentage disapprove of his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and 53 percent disapprove of his handling of immigration and healthcare.

Regarding Trump's recent attempts to overturn the elections, 58 percent say they don't think the election was stolen, 56 percent say Trump's overturn efforts have weakened democracy and 57 percent said they didn't want to see Trump run for president again in 2024.

The poll was conducted between December 6 and 9 by calling a random national sample of 1,007 registered voters, 239 of whom were contacted via landline and 768 who were contacted via cellphone. The survey method also used proportionate numbers of respondents from each state meant to reflect the number of voters in each state.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

However, the poll showed 52 percent approving of Trump's handling of the economy. Despite that, 63 percent said they'd rate the current economic conditions as fair to poor. Also, 40 percent of respondents said they expected the economy to improve, whereas only 35 percent said they expected it to worsen.

When asked if they felt their families were better off now than four years ago, 33 percent said yes, 30 percent said no and 36 percent said about the same.

A handful of polls since the election have shown Trump's favorability to be slipping as that of his political opponent, President-elect Joe Biden has risen.

A November 30 Gallup poll showed Biden's favorability rating to be 55 percent—6 percent higher than Trump's record-high of 49 percent last April. Biden's favorability rating just after the election was 13 points higher than Trump's was after he won the 2016 presidential election.

Gallup also found around the same date that Biden's favorability rating among Republicans was four times that of Trump's among Democrats. While 12 percent of Republicans expressed a favorable opinion of Biden, only 3 percent of Democrats had a favorable opinion of Trump.

Gallup has said that most winners of presidential elections get a post-election boost in favorability ratings. After Trump won the 2016 election, his Gallup favorability rating rose from 34 percent to 42 percent. But even then, he had the lowest overall favorability rating of any presidential election winner since 2000.
