SPORT : Champions League: Solskjaer sends Anthony Martial home from Man Utd training

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Monday morning sent Anthony Martial home after only 11 minutes of training, according to Manchester Evening News.

Martial missed the 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday afternoon but reported to training on Monday.

However, the France striker was quickly sent home, after it was determined he was not fit enough to train.

Martial had travelled with the squad to Southampton, but was taken ill overnight and remained in the team hotel, while his team-mates fought their way back from 2-0 down.

Ahead of the game, Solskjaer said: “Anthony fell ill overnight so he’s in the hotel by himself, poor lad. So that’s the reason he isn’t playing.”

Martial is now a doubt for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford.

SPORT : Nigerian striker confirms he wants to leave Liverpool

Nigeria striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has admitted he prefers to leave Liverpool, after failing to secure a UK work permit since his arrival in 2015.

Awoniyi joined the Reds following his heroics at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup and 2015 Africa U20 Championship, where he helped Nigeria win both tournaments.

Since then, the 23-year-old has had seven loan stints in clubs across Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

In an interview with ESPN, Awoniyi stated he would love to play for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but was left considering his options after another loan deal was agreed with Union Berlin in September for the 2020/2021 season.

“It is my dream to play for Liverpool. But me playing for Liverpool has to do with getting my work permit,” Awoniyi said.

“Without it, there is no chance for me to discuss playing for Liverpool for now.

“This season was maybe a bit tough to make the decision because honestly, I was hoping to leave permanently.

“Liverpool has been great, they have been so supportive and we always talk with the director and every time, they tell me to be patient.

“But the reason I discussed something permanent this season was just that I felt most loans I have been to, have not really been the way I want it.

“And I felt like it happens that way because the loan players get less of an advantage than the players of their own club.

“That was what made me think, okay, maybe it’s time to find a home with my family.”

SPORT : Mike Tyson confesses to smoking cannabis before fighting Roy Jones Jr

Former world boxing champion, Mike Tyson, has admitted he smoked cannabis before he fought Roy Jones last weekend.

There was no winner in the bizarre eight-round exhibition bout, as the judges ruled it a draw.

Both Tyson and Jones were drug tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) beforehand.

But cannabis was not included in the list of banned substances and 54-year-old Tyson took full advantage with a pre-fight blaze.

He said: “Listen, I can’t stop smoking.

“I smoked during fights. I just have to smoke. I’m sorry. I’m a smoker.

“I smoke every day. I never stopped smoking.”

NEWS : Borno massacre: Declare state of emergency now – Fani-Kayode tells Buhari govt over Boko Haram killings

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, on Monday, has urged the government to declare a state of emergency, following Boko Haram’s killing of rice farmers in Borno State.

Fani-Kayode made the appeal while describing the manner in which Boko Haram killed the farmers as evil.

The insurgents had over the weekend beheaded some rice farmers in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.

Boko Haram allegedly beheads 43 farmers in Borno

The death toll, which was initially reported as 43 has risen to 110.

However, the former minister in a series of tweets wrote: “110 Nigerians had their throats slit and heads chopped off in a few hours & in a single location?

“The enormity of this atrocity is simply astounding and it beggars belief.

“Their killers then lay them in lines on the floor with their heads on their stomachs? This is evil.

“We need to declare a state of emergency in some states. If this barbaric atrocity by Boko Haram had been committed in the south, the whole country and international community would have been up in arms. Yet it has happened in Borno and the outrage and disgust that has been expressed is minimal.

“Are we no longer one nation? Are some lives more important than others? Each time anyone, no matter where they come from in our country, is butchered it kills a part of each and everyone of us. 110 heads chopped off and few seem to care? Enough of this madness! Something must give!”
