BIAFRA : Coronavirus 4 Chinese, 39 Nigerians quarantined in Plateau

Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Lar Ndam Nimkong said 43 persons including Chinese national have been isolated in mining sites in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He said among those isolated, were four Chinese National and 39 Nigerians who are working with the Chinese in the two mining sites.
Dr. Nimkong disclosed this on Sunday during a press briefing with the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang in Jos and said the Chinese who came from China through Adis-Ababa to Abuja were examined and have no symptoms of Coronavirus.
He said: “The Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong received a communication on Friday, 28 February 2020 from Nigeria Immigration Service that three Chinese National were in Plateau. We set up a committee urgently made up of our staff, WHO, Nigeria Immigration Service, the Police and DSS and went to Wase LGA immediately.
“On Saturday, 29 February, the team discovered that there were four Chinese and not three. They interviewed the leader who came on 25 February and three others came on the 26 February, 2020.
“They admitted that they came from China and flew to Adis-Ababa through Abuja to Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State. They showed their screening forms in Adis-Ababa and in Abuja and we told them that anybody who is coming from a country that has Coronavirus problem is a suspect until he proves otherwise.
“In Wase, the Leader was leaving in a compound with 24 other Nigerians who were working with him. They have a water source that the villagers come to fetch for drinking, both of them were isolated in the compound for 14 days, nobody is expected to go out and nobody goes in.
“The same thing in Baki-Kaya where there are three Chinese National and 15 Nigerians who are working with them, both of them showed their screening forms before coming into Nigeria, and we have asked that they should be isolated for 14 days also; with this, we have no case of Coronavirus in Plateau for now.”
He said the Military and other security personnel in the area have been directed to ensure that the people comply with the directive.
Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang, who was with Ndam during the briefing, said that there is no known case of Coronavirus in the State.
According to him, “There is no known case of Coronavirus in Plateau State. You know, we have a mining site in Wase. There are Chinese nationals that are mining that site. Three of them came in from China via Ethiopia Airways via Abuja.
“Commissioner for Health in a swift reaction, sent a health team to go and isolate and investigate them. The investigation is supposed to take 14 days. We will now know after 14 days whether they did contact the virus or not.”
Manjang explained that being quarantined or isolated does not automatically mean that one has contacted the virus.

BIAFRA : POLITICSAPC vs PDP Barrister Bamgbose reveals what Supreme Court will do to Ihedioha on Monday

Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose, the National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has said that the application filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seeking review of the earlier judgement that sacked Emeka Ihedioha as Imo State Governor, will amount to nothing.
According to the senior lawyer, “the Supreme Court will throw out the matter and award a punitive cost against the lawyers who filed such a frivolous and obnoxious application.”
Bamgbose said this while fielding questions from DAILY POST on Sunday, adding that since the existence of apex court in Nigeria, 1959, it has only reviewed three matters and none of them is a matter related to election.
He said that the Supreme Court will make a mockery of themselves if they will go ahead and review the matter in favour of Ihedioha.
Bamgbose recalled that he made it clear that the All Progressives Congress, APC sacrificed David Lyon to compensate PDP for their loss of Imo State.

“There is no way the matter will be reviewed in favour of Ihedioha. He should go back to the drawing table and prepare for the next election but as for the review, no way.
“If for any reason the Supreme Court reverses itself, it’ll be a mockery of Judiciary. It will be tantamount to desecration of the Judiciary.
“One would have expected the lawyers to tell their clients the truth about review cases.
“One should expect, like I’ve said earlier on, that punitive cost will be awarded against the lawyers to act as a deterrent to others who might want to come up with such a frivolous and offensive application.”
Recall that Barrister Bamgbose, had predicted the outcome of the APC Supreme Court case in Bayelsa State, saying that it would be thrown out.

The court on Tuesday struck out the appeal filed by the APC, for the review of the Bayelsa Governorship election, saying that the applicants failed to point out errors in the earlier judgement, insisting that the judgment is final for all ages, saying that no court can fault or reverse it.

BIAFRA : Don’t allow restructuring agitation lead to war, Obasanjo tells Buhari

Femi Makinde
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said the present government needs to heed the agitations of those clamouring for  restructuring before such agitations develop into self-determination.
Speaking in Lagos on Saturday at the first memorial lecture organised in honour of the founder of the Oodua People’s Congress, Dr Fredrick Fasehun, the former President advised the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to heed the call now before it would be too late.
He said Nigeria could not afford to be plunged into another war because the nation might not survive the second civil war.
Obasanjo, who said insecurity was a major concern in Nigeria, commended the South-West governors for establishing the Western Nigeria Security Network popularly known as Operation Amotekun.
He particularly commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde “for his leadership on this matter and for sharing their thinking with me.”
The former President said no section of the country should think it would be easy to quell any other region  that might want to secede if the agitation for restructuring was not addressed.
He stated that the agitation while he was in office was for true federalism but now it had changed to restructuring.
He said, “President Goodluck Jonathan’s effort of a National Conference did not even get to the National Assembly. Today, the agitation has moved up to restructuring. Thanks to Buhari’s administration and its impunity and all. With the fractional political division, poor management of the economy, the non-protecting security and the politics of uncertainty in the land, we should not allow restructuring agitation to degenerate to self-determination.
“There is still a window of opportunity for us to nip in the bud a possible and indeed likely agitation for self determination that will be violent, destructive and all-empowering. We have descended to lack of civility bordering on uncivilisation, indignity, mutual disrespect and crudity in the language of our debate, dialogue, discourse, address, comments and remarks across tribe, section, religion, region, ethnicity and community.
“If not halted, it will degenerate and poison the atmosphere to the tipping point or point of no return.”
Obasanjo, who played an active part in the Nigerian Civil War, said the military then planned that it would crush the Biafran soldiers between three and six months. He, however, said Nigeria almost lost to Biafra but managed to defeat the agitators after 36 months.
He said, “And before we descend any further, let me warn, from experience, those who are beating the drums of war and domination from all quarters. I joined late Bisalla, under General Hassan Katsina, to write the appreciation and the operational instruction for the (Nigerian) Civil War.
“We estimated that Federal Government would suppress the Biafran rebellion within three months. To make allowances for the unforeseen, we allowed six months. But it took us 30 months, five times what we allowed for, and what is more, we nearly lost the war. And as a field commander at the end of the war, I can attest that we fought with all Nigerian tribes, including Igbos against Biafra.”
He said the National Assembly appeared to be aware of the lurking danger and wanted to be proactive but he said the constitution did not give them the power to write a new constitution but to amend the existing one.
“What is required is a new constitution to meet the agitation and aspiration of all Nigerians and to allay all fears. The executive and the legislature need to work together to establish a Constituent Assembly.
He continued, “And if after over 10 years of fighting Boko Haram, the terrorist group is still waxing strong, let nobody out of self-delusion think that a war of self-determination by one or more geopolitical zones of Nigeria with the present disenchantment would be easily suppressed by the rest of what may remain of the country.
“Some will fight to the last drop of the blood of their group rather than suffer the indignity of slavery, oppression, domination and atrocious injustice in the land of their birth and the only one that they can call their country.
“If Boko Haram can get an outside support, any geo-political zone opting for self-determination may equally get an external support. War may not necessarily go as planned, estimated and predicted. “Everything must, therefore, be put in place to avoid a war, the end of which no one can precisely predict.
“There is no assurance that Nigeria can survive a second civil war. But rather, we should seek political solution and avoid a destructive civil war.
“This is the situation today. Let us put our experiences to work and fashion out a political order and arrangement that will strengthen our togetherness while making room for healthy and useful competition within the one entity, Nigeria.

“We need not go the way of Yugoslavia or Sudan and certainly not the way of Rwanda and Somalia. But none of these countries knew the avoidable and divisive end from the beginning. Let us learn from the experience of others and of our founding fathers who resolved their political differences through dialogue and debate without resorting to violence and separation but accommodation, telling themselves hard truth, tolerance and give-and-take spirit. That was the foundation of Nigeria at independence and let it continue to be.
“If all we are interested in is power and not holding the country together harmoniously and wholesomely, we may hold the mirage of power and lose the nation or the country bequeathed to us by our founding fathers.
“Today, we can still collectively debate, dialogue and lead our country to where, by consensus, we will want it to be as a united, strong, harmonious, dynamic, fast developing, productive, fast growing and progressing nation with sufficient leeway for autonomous development and management by component units on the basis of healthy competition, mutual respect, caring and sharing for one another, within one nation and one destiny, with shared values, common goals and venerated diversity.
“There are still people of goodwill who can speak up and speak out and take effective and positive actions individually and collectively that will corporately save the country from rudderlessness and disintegration. We must allow a stitch in time to save nine, so that we are not pushed to the realm of the unknown and which may be for all of us, undesirable.”
The National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Anthony Sani, who spoke before Obasanjo, said although there was no harm in restructuring, he said he did not believe the time was ripe for restructuring now.
He said, “While I do not oppose restructuring, the problem might not be restructuring and I am not sure that restructuring, at a time when there is so much distrust, will be the solution.”
The new President of OPC, Prince Osibote, expressed worry about the insecurity in the nation.
Osibote said, “We are saddened by the state of insecurity in the land. The challenge is exacerbated by unbridled poverty, illiteracy and ignorance coupled with lack of vision and character by a section of the Nigerian political class.
“We frittered away ample opportunities that came our way to consolidate on our strength, human capacities and natural endowments.
“We unambiguously denounce the spilling of blood in the land, banditry, abduction, and other forms of heinous crimes that have almost made life miserable in some parts of the country.”
One of the children of the late OPC founder,  Olubunmi,  appreciated those present at the ceremony.
He said, “I want to appreciate you all for coming to honour our late father. We now know that you  loved our father when he was alive. “
Among those present at the lecture were former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Oyewole Fasawe; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who was represented by the Asoya of Isoya, Oba Muraina Adebanjo; the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nwodo who was represented by the Lagos State Chairman, Chief Solomon Ogbonna.

BIAFRA : Gowon, How Domkat Bali Averted Last Minute Genocide During 1967 Civil War

Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja
A former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) saturday recalled how a former Chief of Defence Staff, General Domkat Bali (rtd), averted a last minute genocide hours before the end of the Nigerian Civil war.
Speaking at Bali’s 80th birthday in Abuja, Gowon said his loyalty and discipline saved the lives of hundreds of civilians by standing down the last assault planned to take place a day before the war ended.
Three million people died during the three years long war most of whom were of the Igbo extraction in a war largely considered a genocide.
Gowon, who did not mention the particular military operation at the time, disclosed that he called Bali and instructed him to cancel the operation after preparations were concluded for the final onslaught and he obeyed without any argument.
Bali was artillery commander during the civil war years and Minister of Defence between 1984 to 1990 as well as a former chief of defence staff.
He said: “We owe Domkat Bali a lot for averting what would have been a genocide by the Nigerian Army during the civil war.
“His loyalty and discipline saved the lives of hundreds of civilians who would have died in the final onslaught planned to take place 24 hours before the war ended.”
He stated that he “called him and gave him the instruction to stand down, he obeyed without any question and that was how the war ended on no victor no vanquished note.”
Gowon further described Bali as faithful officer who rose through the ranks to the pinnacle of the military profession.
In his goodwill message, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, described the celebrant as the icon of the military profession who had made great sacrifice in the development of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
President Muhammadu Buhari represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, described Bali as a general who served the country selflessly and deserves to be celebrated.

BIAFRA : Bayelsa Gov. Diri donates N40m Supreme Court awarded him to church, warns APC

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has warned members of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, that he will now deploy the full weight of the law if they refuse to accept his olive branch.
The Governor, who said the opposition party must realise that he is now on the seat of power, also donated the N40 million awarded to him and his deputy Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, by the Supreme Court to the church.
The Supreme Court had on Wednesday, while dismissing the application filed by the APC for the review of its earlier judgement that sacked David Lyon as the governor-elect of the State, fined Afe Babalola (SAN) and Wole Olanipekun (SAN) lawyers to the applicants and ordered them to pay the respondents.
Governor Diri, during a special thanksgiving service at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa, said he and his deputy are donating the money, amounting to N40 million to the church.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Alabrah, in a statement, said that the well attended service tagged: “Victory thanksgiving” was put together to appreciate God for His intervention.
Diri added, “What has happened only proves the fact that there is a God that rules in the affairs of men. His decisions are final and supreme.
“There is no Supreme Court greater than the supreme court of God. He gave that judgment through the learned justices and some people felt they had to question Him.
“And God spoke through that woman that delivered the judgment. According to her, who are you to question the supremacy of the Supreme Court?
“And so for desecrating the temple of justice, a cost of N10 million each was imposed on two of the senior lawyers that represented the other party to be paid to three of the respondents, which included me and my deputy.
“Without even consulting my deputy, I have decided that both of us will surrender our N20 million each, that is N40 million, to the work of God in the church.”
The Governor underscored the need for APC members in the state to embrace the olive branch extended to them for the sake of peace and sustainable development.
He said some opposition elements in the State were still bent on fomenting trouble over the victory of the PDP at the Supreme Court.
“As a people, let us learn to move ourselves upward. We need to build on the prevailing peace in this state so that investors can come in and we can also create employment for our young ones who want to work,” Diri said.
“That is why we have offered the olive branch and we expect them all to accept it. But for those who refuse to accept it, but rather are planning evil, they should realize that we are now on the seat of power. We have every information at our disposal.”

BIAFRA : Supreme Court will rule against APC, Uzodinma – Ihedioha’s camp

Ahead of Monday’s hearing at the Supreme Court, the camp of former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed optimism that they will get justice.
At the first hearing in his suit against the judgement which installed Hope, Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Imo governor, the court adjourned hearing to March 2.
Ihedioha, through his lawyer and former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi (SAN) wants the court to remove Uzodinma from office.
On Sunday, Ihedioha’s special assistant on new media, AIC Akwarandu, told DAILY POST that they expect that the apex court will be fair.
“We are confident that Justice will be done in the matter. The issues are very clear, ranging from mathematical imbalance to issues of geographical spread to other salient issues”, he said.
“The Supreme Court has another opportunity to prove to Nigerians, who are all watching that, indeed the court is the last hope of the common man. We believe Ihedioha will be declared winner.
“Ihedioha has conducted himself in the best manner during this period. No violence attack on anybody, no riot. He strongly believes in Nigeria and the fact that justice can be done in this country.”

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Tanko Muhammad heads the panel hearing Ihedioha’s suit.
The same panel will hear the application by Zamfara APC, challenging the governorship election judgement in favour of the PDP and Governor Bello Matawalle.
Other members of the panel are Justices Kayode Ariwoola, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Inyang Okoro, Amina Augie, Sylvester Ngwuta and Uwani Abba-Aji.
The court in January ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Uzodinma as duly elected.
The judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun declared that the APC candidate polled majority votes.
