BIAFRANS : Ohanaeze talks tough as Biafra agitators attack Ekweremadu

reports that the said attack occurred in far away Germany.
Ekweremadu was dragged around and stoned with different objects, around the venue of the event.    The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reacted to the reported attack on former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu by suspected Biafra agitators.   The lawmaker was later whisked away in a car, after several attempts to stop him from escaping.
In the video, one of the attackers was heard saying “imagine, people are dying on a daily basis, people are wailing on a daily basis and we are here enjoying.”
Reacting, Ohanaeze President-General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo described it as disappointing.
His statement read:
The assault on Ekweremadu by Igbos in Germany, described as IPOB, is disappointing, grotesque and dangerous for Igbo solidarity.
This violent, rude, impertinent, divisive and discourteous style of IPOB or IPOB instigated miscreants is damaging to our cause.
It strengthens the case of those who describe them as terrorists and weaken our case against the infringement of our fundamental human rights.
Ekweremadu negotiated the sureties and securities for Nnamdi Kanu’s release on bail.
He does not deserve this picketing and disgrace. A disgrace to him is a disgrace to Igbo race.
Whilst I condemn the attack on our revered son and leader, I call on the law enforcement agencies in Germany to bring to book the perpetrators of this despicable act. It is un-Igbo. It is disgraceful.

BIAFRANS : Presidential Tribunal: PDP urges tribunal to nullify Buhari’s re-election over alleged non-qualification

The party and its candidate also claimed that Buhari’s election was invalid as INEC and Buhari allegedly rigged the poll.   The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the February 23, presidential election, Atiku Abubakar and his party has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari was not qualified to have contested the 2019 poll and as such should be disqualified by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.   It was also argued that there are discrepancies in results between tendered Certified True Copies of forms EC8A and polling units.
Besides, the petitioners in their final address to the tribunal insisted that they have proved all allegations contained in their petition against the conduct of the February 23 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a 43-page final address filed by their lead counsel, Dr Levy Uzoukwu SAN, Atiku and PDP claimed to have established the fact that Buhari does not possess the requisite academic qualification for the position of President of Nigeria.
In the final address filed on August 14, the petitioners said even Buhari’s own witnesses under cross examination admitted to the fact that Buhari does not possess a school certifcate, being the basic requirements for contesting for the office of the president.
“We therefore submit that all the purported evidence led by the 2nd respondent (Buhari) to prove that he attended a secondary school or a primary school or that he attended some courses, is irrelevant because he did not rely on any of those purported qualifications in exhibit P1, he relied on primary school certifcate, WASC and Officer Cadet.
“Equally futile is his attempt to prove that he can speak and write in the English language. That is all irrelevant to his inability to produce his primary school certifcate, secondary school certifcate or WASC and his Officer Cadet qualification, whatever that means. Officer Cadet is not a qualification or certifcate under the Constitution and Electoral Act; nor is it known to any law,” the party said.
On the purported Cambridge University certifcate tendered by Buhari before the tribunal, the petitioners asked why, “it was easier for Buhari to go all the way to Cambridge in the United Kingdom to obtain a bogus documents that his own witnesses said was not a certificate, instead of just driving down the street in Abuja to the Army Headquarters or placing a phone call to the Secretary of the Military Board in Abuja to hurry over with his certifcate or certifcates”
Still on the Cambridge University documents, the petitioners submitted that, “A comparison of the purported Cambridge Assessment International Education Certifying Statement of the purported West African Examination Council (WAEC) certifcate and a certified true copy of the purported confidential result sheet of the University of Cambridge West African School Certificate of 1961 for the Provincial Secondary School, katsina reveals many discrepancies in the suppose result.
“One listed 8 subjects that the candidate therein mentioned one ‘Mohamed Buhari’ allegedly sat for, the other 6 subjects, both documents are therefore unreliable as both cannot be correct. The contradiction must count against the 2nd respondent.
Another false claim by Buhari, according to the petitioners is that he attended, “Elementary School, Daura and Mai Aduwa 1948-52”. Elementary School Daura is totally different from Mai Aduwa, their locations are totally different. He also claimed he entered Middle School Katsina in 1953, however, the petitioners submitted that by 1953, the Middle School system had been abolished in the northern region of Nigeria.
On the claim that his certifcates were with the military, the petitioners submitted that Buhari failed woefully to prove the claim, “rather the petitioners’ evidence to the contrary was not contested nor challenged.
It is also the case of the petitioners that they have successfully proved that the Nigerian Army had denied being in possession of Buhari’s alleged certifcates.
“One of the strongest evidence on the issue was given by the second respondent’s own witness, RW1, General Paul Tafa, (Rtd), who under cross examination by the 1st respondent (INEC), told the court firmly and unequivocally that the Army did not collect the certifcates of military Officers and added, ‘there was no such thing”.
***On the issue of rigging and non- compliance with the Electoral Act, the petitioners said with the plethora of evidence tendered and witnesses called they have been able to show to the tribunal that Buhari’s election was invalid.
They added that analysis of results from 11 states showed how INEC in connivance with Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) wrongly and unlawfully credited Buhari with votes not valid or lawful.
According to them documents tendered before the tribunal showed huge discrepancies between collated results as contained in the tendered Certified True Copies of forms EC8A and polling units.
They further alleged that a total of 2, 906,384 votes were cancelled across the country, while 2, 698,773 Nigerians were disenfranchised.
They said the two figures when added exceeded the 3, 928,869 differential between the votes as stated in INEC form EC8E.

BIAFRANS : 10 retirees of Odumegwu Ojukwu University die waiting for pension

The Chairman, National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and leader of Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions (JAC), Comrade A.C. Okeke stated this while addressing members of Anambra State House of Assembly, during a protest by the groups.    At least, 10 retirees of the Anambra State owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) have died while waiting for payment of their pension.     The groups had given the university’s management up to Wednesday, August 14 to meet their demands of non payment of arrears of salaries and pension to its retirees or face indefinite industrial action by the staff.
The workers who are members of National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and under the Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions (JAC) had marched to the state Assembly for a protest.
The groups claimed that the university was owing them over N4.6 billion.
Okeke said, “Some of our members have died while waiting for payment of their pension. About 10 of them that we know have died.
“On a daily basis, you see our retired members who come to the university gate to beg for money, and we feel pained about their plight.
“It is for these reasons that we decided to come here and tell you people. We have been very linient with the school management, but we are already fed up. They keep telling us to exercise patience, but this has been on for a long time without any hope.”
A member of the state of Assembly, Hon Emeka Aforka who represents Orumba South state constituency who addressed the protesting workers expressed unhappiness over their plight.
“We feel your pain, and we are Happy that as enlightened people from the state’s citadel of learning, you decided on a peaceful protest, and that is very much appreciated.
“The Speaker of the state assembly, Rt Hon Uche Okafor is unavoidably absent, but he has sent me to represent him and hear from you. We shall ensure that we do the needful by bringing this to the notice of the state governor.
“To assure you of our concern, you will hear from us very soon over this, but we urge you to remain law abiding,” he said.

biafra : Angry youths block Uyo PHEDC office with coffin over irregular power supply, over-billing

Sources from the PHED Uyo, said the total blackout witnessed in Uyo was as a result of the protest since the company was forcefully shut down.
According to the youth leader of Itu, Ubong Akpan, who led the protest “We are against estimated bills and we want them to restore the light to what it used to be before now.     Youths of Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday barricaded the offices of Portharcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) in Uyo with a mock coffin over alleged epileptic power supply and high tariff.     “We can’t imagine how we can have two power stations in Itu local government area, and we have not been having light for months.
“PHED has not been treating us well, even when we pay our bills regularly. We need prepaid metres, so that we can also enjoy like customers in other cities. The government should look into the activities of PHEDC in Akwa Ibom State.”
Another youth leader, Idongesit Okon said, “We are giving them three days, and if they don’t restore our light, we will protest till they bring us light. We have suffered enough in their hands.
“There’s enough energy in the system, so they should not say it was lack of energy. We have enough energy, they have been taking our energy to go and sell to other places.”
In a swift reaction, the manager corporate communication of PHED, John Onyi said the state had been thrown into unwarranted darkness due to the activities of Itam Youth Forum.
The statement he sent to journalists in Uyo reads in parts, “The forced outage is sequel to the action of the Youth Development Forum under the leadership of Obong Ubong Akpan, who early this morning barricaded the Transmission Station, located at Itu close to the state capital, thereby forcing the station to shut down supply forcefully.
“In addition, the same group later moved to PHED office at 4-Lane with a coffin, a show of shame championed by its leader, dropped the said coffin at the entrance of the office, scared customers away, thereby leading to operations blockade of the company.
“The action of the Youth has therefore, led to inability of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, to wheel out power to Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company for onward distribution to its valued customers in Akwa Ibom state.
“Also, the economic activities of the entire state have been brought to a halt as a result of the sacking of TCN’s officials on duty by the irate youth.”
Onyii alleged that the protest was selfishly and secretly sponsored by Ubong Akpan whose repeated demand to carry out an enumeration contract worth N6, 660,000.00 on behalf of PHED in his community, Itu, comprising 79 villages was not honoured.
“Of course the management did not succumb to his hate speech and blackmail, hence, he now organized and misled unsuspecting members of his group in order to achieve his self-aggrandizement which he purportedly hinged on poor supply to his community-Itu.
“He also submitted a proposal to PHED for sensitization in his community amounting to N731, 200.00 which was declined for lack of merit since there is an in-house department responsible for publicity,” he said.
He further said, “PHED cannot be intimidated or coerced into doing the biddings of “A self-acclaimed-messiah” as we have the mandate of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, to distribute power supply to our customers including Itu community in our franchise area.
“We, therefore, call on the relevant government functionaries especially the security agencies to step in and advise Ubong Akpan and his group to vacate the premises of the TCN and remove their coffin from PHED’s office in Uyo with a view to wheeling out supply to PHED customers.”
