The Igbo Canadian Community Association, ICCA/Umunna, has condemned the naming of the newly-established Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies of the Ebonyi State University,

The Igbo Canadian Community Association, ICCA/Umunna, has condemned the naming of the newly-established Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies of the Ebonyi State University, EBSU, by the Governor Dave Umahi government after the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai.  ICCA described the approval given by the Ebonyi State Government to name the newly established institute after Buratai as a disgraceful ill-advised decision that spits on the graves of Nigerians “who have been killed by the army under Buratai”.
Igbo in Canada blast Gov. Umahi for naming EBSU institute after Buratai  Recall that Col. Sagir Musa, the Nigeria Army spokesman, had in a statement, quoted the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Chigozie Egbu, as saying the university was naming its newly-established institute for Peace and Strategic Studies after the Chief of Army Staff, for his selfless service to the nation and humanity.    According to Musa, the Vice Chancellor stated this when he led a team from the university on a courtesy visit to Buratai in Abuja recently.
The VC, during the visit, disclosed that the state governor and the State Executive Council had approved that the institute be named “Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies”.
However, the President of the socio-cultural and political group, Chief Ugochukwu Okoro, insisted that the Army failed in its duties under Buratai.     A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the group, Ahaoma Kanu, reads: “It is incomprehensible and unconscionable that a serving governor will take the very inhumane decision to name a building after a man whose hands are dripping with the blood of innocent Nigerians killed in broad daylight by Nigeria Army soldiers under the command of a despicable officer like Buratai who not only has blood on his hands but pungently oozes of corruption and has failed in his duties as the Chief of Army Staff as his tenure can only be described as a total failure.
“Governor Dave Umahi has shown, by his decision to solely select Buratai, his short-sightedness in selecting honourable Nigerians dead or alive that would have been more befitting to wear the honour of selfless service to humanity more appropriately.”
The socio-cultural group stated that from the vague reasons given by the Ebonyi government why Buratai was selected to be honoured, it showed the governor and the Executive Council failed to take into consideration the actions of the Nigeria Army under Buratai against human rights in the country.  “We find it unbelievable that the Ebonyi State government wants to reward failure; cloth dishonor with honour; encourage indiscriminate killing of the innocent citizens by the Nigeria Army or tell the world that Ebonyi rewards bloodshed.
“Does it mean that during the selection discussion that the Executive Council failed to look into the human rights records of the Nigeria Army under the leadership of Buratai? Have they forgotten so soon that juts some six months ago the Army under the command of Burata killed 42 Shiite Muslims in Abuja; gruesome lethal attack on protesting Nigerian citizens some of which was captured on video.
“Has Governor Umahi and the Executive Council of Ebonyi forgotten that on December 12, 2015 the Nigeria Army killed 348 members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria with 347 bodies buried in secret. Are they not aware that the Judicial Commission for Inquiry set up by the Kaduna State Government in January 2016 under the chairmanship of Justice Mohammed Garba, a presiding justice of Court of Appeal, found the army gunned down 348 Shiites and urged for prosecution.     How can Governor Umahi and his Executive Council forget that about 150 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were killed in a chilling campaign of extrajudicial executions by the Nigeria Army under the command of Buratai between August 2015 and August 2016?
“Does it mean that Gov. Umahi and his Executive Council have forgotten Operation Python Dance; the infamous military exercise that left over 100 Igbo youths dead? What inspiration did the Ebonyi Governor see in a man that has questionable properties obviously acquired through proceeds from corrupt acts in the United Arab Emirates, and who, under his leadership, horrendous calamity is constantly befalling officers and men of the Nigeria Army under his command?
“Is Gov. Umahi aware that the International Criminal Court (ICC) in December 2018 indicted the Nigeria Army under Buratai for committing war crime varying from murder, torture, and intentionally attacking the civilian population?      “We beg to ask Gov. Umahi which face of Buratai that has a resemblance of humanity for which he is been honoured.   “There are several families across the South East that are still mourning; there are families that have lost bread winners in Kaduna; there are many youths whose life have been cut short by the orders of Gen. Buratai and yet Gov. Umahi chose name a building after him in Ebonyi State to be a constant reminder to the families that lost loved once in the South East of the pain they feel and are still feeling.   “If Gov. Umahi had truly wanted to name a building after a deserving Nigerian, dead or alive, perhaps Late Gani Fawehinmi would have been more befitting to have his name on that building; or maybe coming home to the Ndigbo, Late Dr. Dozie Ikedife name would have stood tall on that building; or if he needed to give that honour to a soldier who have given great service to the nation, then no other would have been more appropriate than late Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali who paid the supreme sacrifice in defense of this nation. Late Col. Ali represents everything Burutai isn’t.    “We beg to ask Gov. Umahi which face of Buratai that has a resemblance of humanity for which he is been honoured.  “Maybe, having that building named after Mrs. Josephine Agwu, who returned a large sum of money at a national airport would have gone a long way to show our children that integrity has many rewards.
“Naming such a building after Buratai is shameful, immoral and condemnable.
“We are therefore calling on Governor Dave Umahi to immediately strip Gen Buratai of that honour and look for a more worthy Nigerian to bestow it on. Having the name of a man who ordered for the death of our brothers, sisters, fathers and children is shows a direct disconnect the government has with the pains and anguish of the people.”

(IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has insisted that Muhammadu Buhari requires a Senior Secondary Leaving Certificate (SSCE) to contest for the seat of the Nigerian president.

Latest Biafra News Roundup Today Wednesday, April 24th, 2019

1. Nnamdi Kanu Maintains Stance On Buhari’s WAEC Certificate Saga

Within the last few hours, some interesting stories about the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been on the front burner, and now, has gathered them together for your reading here.    The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has insisted that Muhammadu Buhari requires a Senior Secondary Leaving Certificate (SSCE) to contest for the seat of the Nigerian president.   reports that the Spokesperson for the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization, Festus Keyamo (SAN) had in one of his recent tweets explained that to occupy the office of Nigeria’s number one citizen, one does not need a WAEC certificate.  Buhari’s WAEC Certificate

But now, during a live broadcast from Radio Biafra at the weekend, Kanu explains that the 1999 constitution (as amended) makes it clear that Primary 6 First School Leaving Certificate only applies to those seeking work in a State – and not at Federal level.
Kanu says: “The 1999 Constitution makes it clear that Primary 6 First School Leaving Certificate only applies to those seeking work in a State.
“Those that quoted this ‘Interpretation’ out of context to justify the ridiculously unconstitutional claim that Jubril/Buhari does not need a WAEC certificate to contest for the presidency is a disgrace to the league of Senior Advocates of Nigeria and the legal profession in general.
“This section of the constitution refers to state employees, not even federal workers and has to do with employment not running for the office of the president.
“Note, a person needs a specified qualification School Certificate (WAEC) to sit in Aso Rock, not Primary 6 First School Leaving Certificate.
“Jubril/Buhari and Atiku need WAEC to be the President of Nigeria.”
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has come up with a fresh claim about the real nationality of President Muhammadu Buhari.
BIAFRA NEWS MEN reports that Kanu, in his broadcast from the United Kingdom at the weekend, says neither “dead” Muhammadu Buhari, nor “his replacement” Jibril al Sudani, is qualified to contest for Nigeria’s presidential election.   Nnamdi Kanu Revisits ‘Buhari Not A Nigerian’
Kanu argues that being born on Nigerian soil was not enough to qualify one as a Nigerian citizen by birth, unless the parents, grandparents of such person is also born in Nigeria.
The IPOB leader says that Buhari’s father, Hardo Adamu, was a nomadic Fulani trader, a duck seller, from the Niger Republic and later became a bodyguard in the Emir of Daura’s palace, which made him settle in Daura, Katsina State, adding that he (Hardo) was born in the Niger Republic, not Nigeria.
Kanu says the All Progressives Congress (APC), has opened the door by challenging Atiku’s citizenship by birth. It now lies within the rights of every right-thinking person to also question Buhari’s citizenship by birth, even litigate it in Court.

3. Nnamdi Kanu To Host IPOB Town Hall Meeting In Germany

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has announced a town hall meeting with the IPOB family in Germany on Saturday, April 27, 2019.   Nnamdi Kanu To Host IPOB Town Hall Meeting In Germany
The IPOB leader, who made the announcement on his Twitter handle on Wednesday said that the meeting will hold in the “historic city of Munich”.
He said that the time of the meeting will be announced on Radio Biafra and enjoined his followers to join him in a live question and answer session.
Kanu leads the group which seeks secession of the eastern part of Nigeria to form the Biafran Republic. The group has since been proscribed by the Nigerian government but they have however continued their agitation for an independent nation.

The Igbo Canadian Community Association (ICCA/Umunna)

his was contained in a statement sent to BIAFRA NEWS MEN on Sunday from Toronto, Canada by the chairman, Board of Directors of the socio-cultural and political group, Ben Allison, through the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ahaoma Kanu.    The group also announced the 17th Biafra Memorial Events due to be hosted in Toronto, Canada on May, 18th, 2019.   The Igbo Canadian Community Association (ICCA/Umunna) has announced that it will immediately commence intense lobbying of the South-East governors and House of Assemblies to declare a Biafra Memorial Day in remembrance of the over three million people of Igbo origin that died during the Nigerian civil war.  The Chairman pointed out that there was immediate need to have a day instituted to honour “our fathers, mothers, brothers and kinsmen who lost their lives in the two and half years war is necessary so that the coming generations will be aware of the history of the travail, trials and survival of Ndigbo in Nigeria”.   The Igbo Canadian Community Association (ICCA/Umunna)
His words, “The Biafra Memorial/Remembrance Week is an annual event organized by the association in remembrance of the over three million Igbo people who lost their lives during the Nigeria Civil War that lasted from 1967 to 1970.
“It is indeed worrisome that such a tragic event which occurred in the history of this country is being forgotten with an unrelenting continuous attempt by the establishment always in motion to suppress any activity initiated to remember victims of the Nigeria civil war; an action which, in the real sense, represents an ongoing suppression of people from the South-East from exercising their basic human rights.”  Speaking further, Allison said in the light of these, the organization will work assidiously with the five South-East governors and the various legislative arm of government to come to a decision to have a unified day to remember the victims of the war in the form of a Remembrance Day that will be observed yearly.
“Igbos in Canada has been observing the remembrance of our people who lost their lives and we will be taking this further to our various governors and elected lawmakers to see the need to come to a unanimous decision to declare a Remembrance Day for our fallen heroes. It will be done by unanimous decision of our elected lawmakers who have the autonomy to do so devoid of interference from the Federal Government.”
The President, ICCA/Umunna, Mr. Ugochukwu Okoro, in his remark, said there are activities to mark this year’s event which will be held at the Woodbine Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where the Mayor of Brampton, Hon. Patrick Brown, is expected to be the special guest of honour. We have several activities to mark this year’s Biafra Memorial Event which includes
Biafra Memorial and Remembrance lecture, Igbo Heritage Gala and Awards Night and the Unveiling the concept of BIANU.”
Mr. Chris Nsoedo, Board Secretary, said that following some of the ill-treatment meted out to people from the South-East as witnessed during the just concluded general elections especially in Lagos State where there were reports of attacks on Ndigbo while they were exercising their civic right of voting, and with remarks made by a serving senator from the south West about Igbos not being trustworthy, the need for Igbos to come together under the BIANU umbrella is inevitable. It added that “It is so sad that 47 years after the war Ndigbo is being treated as if they being tolerated and do not belong to the union called Nigeria. Yesterday it was attack on Ndigbo while voting, today we hear of their places of businesses being invaded and we see how the government unapologetically disenfranchises Ndigbo from government with disregard.   “The concept of BIANU, which will be activated on that day, is a call for Ndigbo to come together and think home and develop the South-East.   “The Theme for the 2019 Biafra Memorial/Remembrance Week is: THEY DIED THAT WE MAY LIVE; IN REMEMBRANCE OF OUR HEROES PAST.”  “ICCA/UMUNNA said it would continued to advocate matters of Igbo interest as it has done “for over 50 years past and is driven by the purpose of instilling a true sense of identity and pride in Igbo nation by keeping the memories of the Igbos lost in the civil war alive as well as promoting the language, culture, history, traditions and philosophy of Igbo nation in Canada.”

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu Revisits 'Buhari Not A Nigerian'

NEWS MEN;  reports that Kanu, in his broadcast from the United Kingdom at the weekend, says neither “dead” Muhammadu Buhari, nor “his replacement” Jibril al Sudani, is qualified to contest for Nigeria’s presidential election. Nnamdi Kanu Revisits ‘Buhari Not A Nigerian’ The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has come up with a fresh claim about the real nationality of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He adds, “NEITHER THE DEAD BUHARI NOR HIS REPLACEMENT JUBRIL AL-SUDANI IS A CITIZEN OF NIGERIA BY BIRTH ACCORDING TO SECTION 25 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.     “Buhari, even before his death should not have contested for the presidency how much less the impostor Jubril Al-Sudani.    “Section 25 (1) of the badly worded, badly written 1999 Nigerian Constitution states that being born on Nigerian soil is not enough to qualify you as a Nigerian citizen by BIRTH unless your father, mother, grandfather or grandmother is also born in Nigeria:  “According to the highest (Supreme) law in Nigeria which is the constitution, ‘The following persons are citizens of Nigeria by BIRTH-namely:
“(a) every person born in Nigeria BEFORE the date of independence, EITHER of whose parents or ANY of whose grandparents belongs or belonged to a community INDIGENOUS to Nigeria;  “Provided that a person shall NOT become a citizen of Nigeria by virtue of this section if NEITHER of his parents nor any of his grandparents was BORN in Nigeria.  “In simple/plain English this means that if NONE of your parents or grandparents is BORN in Nigeria, you cannot contest for the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, simple and short.  “Section 131 of the 1999 Constitution which APC is relying on to disqualify Atiku, provides:  “‘A person shall be qualified for election to the office of the President if (a) he is a citizen of Nigeria by BIRTH  “Now, leaving that of Atiku for the moment, let us now consider whether the dead Buhari (now replaced by Jibril from Sudan) was a citizen of Nigeria by BIRTH, as defined under Section 25 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) above.  “Keep in mind that Section 25 did not provide being born in Nigeria as the ONLY conditions for being considered being Nigerian by BIRTH. There are other conditions, which one must fulfil and they are:  “1. As applied to Buhari, you must have been born before Independence, so having been borne in 1942, the dead Buhari passed this first test.  “2. Either of Buhari’s parents or any of his parents must belong to a tribe INDIGENOUS to Nigeria; and … [mind you not the Republic of Niger]  “3. Under the Proviso to Section 25, either of them MUST also be BORN in Nigeria. [This is the most important proviso because even if you pass 1 and 2, you will still fail and won’t qualify to be Nigerian president if you don’t pass No 3, that is what the law says].  “Now, we know from public records that Buhari’s father, Hardo Adamu, was a nomadic FULANI trader, a duck seller, from the Niger Republic and later became a bodyguard in the Emir of Daura’s palace, which made him settle in Daura, Katsina State. So, he (Hardo) was borne in the Niger Republic, not Nigeria.
“And Buhari’s father, being from Niger DID NOT belong to a tribe indigenous to Nigeria. This law was designed to stop cross border tribes from claiming indigenous identity to run for the presidency of Nigeria. Remember that the Yoruba tribe extends into the Benin Republic.
“Though they are Yoruba by indigenous identity, they are not regarded as a population indigenous to Nigeria by virtue of the fact that they belong to another country. The same applies to Fulani people indigenous to the Niger Republic that share a common porous border with Nigeria.
“But given that Section 25 used the words ‘either of the parents or any of the grandparents’, we shall consider whether Buhari’s mother, Zulaihatu, was born in Nigeria.
“What we know for sure is that Hardo Adamu married Zulaihatu in the Niger Republic and both of them, being nomadic, emigrated to Daura together sometime in early 1941. That is why there is NO record of any local Daura family in present-day Katsina State that claims Zulaihatu comes from them.
“In other words, Buhari’s mother, also a Fulani from the Niger Republic was NOT born in Nigeria.
“Now, here’s the question: if neither of Buhari’s parents were BORN in Nigeria, is it likely that any of his grandparents, that is the parents of Hardo and Zulaihatu were born in Nigeria? Not likely. This is where I challenge the Daura Emirate of Katsina to confirm or deny this.
“Let us now recall the Proviso to Section 25 which states, and I quote:
‘Provided that a person shall NOT become a citizen of Nigeria by virtue of this section if NEITHER of his parents nor any of his grandparents was BORN in Nigeria.”
“So, now we know that even though the late Buhari may have been born in Daura in present-day Katsina State, NEITHER of his parents or grandparents were born in Nigeria. Buhari is therefore NOT a citizen of Nigeria by BIRTH as defined in the Proviso to Section 25 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“So, even if they now claim that the Fulani is indigenous to Nigeria, Buhari still failed the FINAL and the ultimate test of his parents or grandparents not being born in Nigeria.
“So, given that APC has opened the door by challenging Atiku’s citizenship by BIRTH, it now lies within the rights of every right-thinking person to also question Buhari’s citizenship by BIRTH, even litigate it in Court.”

TODAY Biafra can’t be achieved through agitation – Ezeonwuka

David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi
A member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has said  Biafra can’t be achieved through mere agitation but investment in Igbo land.
Ezeonwuka said it is a misnomer for Igbo to keep  asking for an independent state of Biafra, but go ahead to develop other cities outside Igboland “when such investments outside would have been enough to give the Igbo political and economic independence without agitation.”
He  lamented what he described as Igbo’s lack of think-home philosophy as they continued to build mansions and factories in diaspora without recourse to invest in their homeland, asking for Biafra at the same time.  WATCH VIDOE HERE
The APGA chieftain said it would not be an overstatement to say Igbo are the most enterprising race in black Africa but have not been able to harness their potentialities to their best advantage.
“Nobody should give Ndigbo Biafra. We already have Biafra here with us and Biafra belongs to us; as was declared on May 30, 1967.
“It is an act of stupidity to ask anybody to give you Biafra. The land of Biafra is crying because our people in Diaspora have abandoned it to develop other areas like Abuja, Lagos and other places and you are here telling them to give you Biafra,” he said.
Ezeonwuka, who is the proprietor of Rogenny Games Village, Oba, and a big-time investor in sports and entertainment industry insisted that things could be produced in Biafran land, labeled made in Biafra and exported to other countries of the world with general acceptability.
On herdsmen’s killings in some parts of the country, Ezeonwuka said the Federal Government should ban open grazing without wasting further time.

Why Buhari Should Not Have Contested 2015, 2019 Presidential Elections – Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari should not have contested the 2015 and 2019 Presidential elections in Nigeria because he lacks the required qualifications to run for such a post.  Kanu made this comment during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra on Saturday. The broadcast focused on the qualifications required to run for the post of the President in Nigeria.
This online news platform reports that the broadcast of the IPOB leader was in reaction to comments made by Festus Keyamo (SAN), that one does not necessarily need a WAECcertificate to become President of Nigeria.
Naija News had reported earlier that Keyamo, who was the spokesperson of the 2019 Buhari Campaign Organization (BCM),  made this comment last Sunday when he appeared on Channels Television.   While answering questions on the eligibility of President Buhari to contest the presidential election, Keyamo said if you have occupied the public office for a reasonable length of time, you do not need a WAEC certificate to become president of Nigeria.
His words: “There are other levels of qualifications to run for the office of President. In fact, if you have occupied the public office for a reasonable length of time, by the provisions of the constitution, you do not even need a WAEC certificate to become President of Nigeria.
“It becomes extremely foolish for anybody who is not statutorily empowered to issue WAEC certificates to come and challenge the body that has the statutory power to issue certificates,” the Senior Advocate of Nigeria had said.  Speaking further, Kanu said: “I am stating tonight, write it down that Nnamdi Kanu said that the dead Buhari was not qualified to run for office.
“I want to prove tonight that the dead Buhari is not a Nigerian by birth and should not have contested the election in 2015.
“The fact that you were born in Katsina is not enough to be a Nigerian. Your father and grandfather must be a Nigerian for him to contest the election.
“Buhari’s parents were not born in Nigeria, therefore, Buhari, the late one should not have contested the election. Even the Buhari that contested and won the election against Jonathan in 2015 should not have contested the election.
“The dead Buhari was born in Niger Republic so if the dead Buhari was not qualified who is Jubril from Sudan to be qualified?” He asked.
Listen to the live broadcast HERE
Meanwhile, Kanu is leading a group seeking secession from Nigeria. The group has since been proscribed by the Nigerian government.
