Members of the Biafra Zionists Federation on Sunday threatened to commit “mass suicide” due to the uncertainty over the whereabouts of their leader, Benjamin Onwuka.

Members of the Biafra Zionists Federation on Sunday threatened to commit “mass suicide” due to the uncertainty over the whereabouts of their leader, Benjamin Onwuka.

Onwuka and some members of the group were arrested on August 20 while trying to occupy the Enugu State Government House, where they planned to declare the ‘independence’ of the Republic of Biafra from Nigeria.

The secessionists were arrested by the police and the Department of State Services as they approached the gate to the Government House.     

The BZF leader’s whereabouts has remained unknown ever since.

In a statement on Sunday, National Coordinator of the BZF,  Gilbert Ogbu, said the group had waited in vain for the DSS to either release their leader or charge him to court.

Ogbu warned that the Biafra Zionists would commit mass suicide within seven days if Onwuka was not released or taken to court.

The secessionists plan to occupy major roads in the South-East where they will be crushed by moving vehicles, according to Ogbu.

The statement read,  “We want to further inform Nigerians and the international community over the unlawful detention of our leader,  Benjamin Onwuka,  by the DSS.

“It is now over two months and they have refused to charge him to court, contrary to the provisions of Nigeria’s constitution, which says nobody should be detained beyond 24 hours.

“More worrisome is the silence of the security agencies, the South-East governors and Ohanaeze Ndigbo, we are beginning to think that there is a collaboration among them.

“We are issuing a seven-day ultimatum, after which we have no option but to commit suicide.

“We shall occupy all the roads in the South-East and either get crushed by vehicles or have ourselves killed by security forces.”

The statement added, “We are drawing the attention of the international community, especially the United Nations, the Amnesty International, the United States and Israel to the oppressive tendencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“We have our right to self-determination as provided for in all international treaties and we are not ready to sacrifice it.”

Mr. Kanu, who spoke in an interview with an Isreali TV Station posted on YouTube on Monday, said his relatives helped him out of the country.

Nigerian Army came to my house to kill me, Mr Kanu said of the military exercise carried out in Abia State just before his disappearance.

They killed 28 people in the process, he alleged.

My people evacuated me before they could get to me and they smuggled me out of Nigeria. I would say, I ’m relieved that I managed to make it to the only place that I feel safe in the whole world.

Mr Kanu, who also has a British passport, claimed he would have loved to go to England but would not feel safe there.

The separatist leader, who by fleeing out of the country violated his bail conditions, claimed there were tens of millions of Igbo Jews in Nigeria who Israel must defend.

Israel has to live up to their obligation to defend Judaism and Jewish faith all over the world, he said. We are being persecuted. We are suffering as a people and I believe it is the responsibility of Israel to make sure that Biafra stands as an independent entity in Africa.

Biafra has over 70 million people scattered all over the world . They have called us the wandering Jews of Africa. Those that identify themselves with their Jewish heritage are about 50 million people,  he said.

When asked how the ‘millions’ of Nigerian Jews he said exists practice their religion, Mr Kanu said they practice Judaism in “terms of their prayers, in terms of the Torah that they read.”  A significant number of the population practise Judaism as we do in IPOB. When Christianity came with colonialism, a lot of our Jewish practices were suppressed. We were made to feel ashamed of our Jewishness. We want to go back to the way we were before the British came. Most of our problems were basically made by the British.

“We want an independent Jewish State, a Biafra that is absolutely independent of anything that has to do with Nigeria, for the simple reason that we were independent before the British came. There is a paranoia that, should Biafra get closer to Israel, 70 million people would somehow flock to the land of Israel, but that is not the case…”

“When I got to Nigeria in 2015, I was arrested and sued. I was asked to be freed twice in court. We are seeking Biafra, so we can get and return to Biafra.”

Mr Kanu has been at the limelight demanding an independent Biafran country from the Nigerian state through referendum. He is facing charges of treasonable felony at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He was arrested alongside three others on October 14, 2015 in Lagos and was granted bail by Justice Binta Nyako on April 25 on health grounds. The judge adjourned the matter to November.

The army and IPOB clashed before the adjourned date. The judge has since frowned at his disappearance and blamed his sureties for jumping bail.

It is Israel’s responsibility to ensure Biafra stands –Kanu

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has stated that Isreal has a responsibility to ensure that Biafra stands as an independent nation in Africa.

He said this in an interview moderated by one Adam Rotbard on an unidentified Israeli television station and shared on the interviewer’s Facebook page.

Nnamdi Kanu reveals people who helped him escape from Nigeria

Kanu revealed this in an interview with Israeli TV Channel 1.

IPOB was the target of a Nigerian Army operation code-named Operation Python Dance, launched in the South-East.  Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has claimed that he was “smuggled out” of Nigeria, with the help of his relatives.  During an operation, around Kanu’s residence in Umuahia, Abia state, 28 people were killed while the IPOB leader went missing.

When I came out (of prison), I continued to preach to my people. I continued to practise my Jewish religion.

And one day, the Nigerian army came to my house to kill me. They killed 28 people in their attempt to kill me.  My people evacuated me before they came to my bedroom. They took me away and smuggled me out of Nigeria. I needed some time to recover which I did and then, had to make my way to Israel,” he said.

The IPOB leader added that he feels “relieved” that he “managed to make it” to Israel, “the only place I feel safe in the world.”

Kanu said he could have gone back to England, “but I still don’t feel safe in England. That is why I stayed back in Israel.

The embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, may have  been stranded in Israel, following his failure to use the travel document that would have enabled him to move to the United Kingdom.

It was learnt that the Biafran leader failed to utilise the Emergency Travel Document provided for him by the British authorities until the document expired.  The UK High Commission in Abuja on Saturday told Punch, on inquiries over role in Kanu’s escape to Jerusalem.  The UK High Commission Senior Communications Officer, Tinu Adelegan, “I’m afraid there’s very little we can say about this for consular confidentiality. All we have done is provided an ETD to a British person who asked for one in Israel, which he has not used and has now expired.”  It could not be ascertained why Kanu, a British citizen, needed an ETD to travel to the UK.

According to the official UK government website, www.gov.uk, a citizen could apply for an emergency travel document (sometimes called an ‘emergency passport’) if he was abroad and needed to travel and can’t get a passport in time.

The website further explained that a Briton could also apply for an emergency travel document if he was outside the UK, had his passport lost, stolen, damaged or full or expired or is with Her Majesty Passport Office or a foreign embassy.

A citizen could also obtain an ETD if he doesn’t have time to renew or replace his passport before he travels.

Naija News recall Kanu disappeared from the country in controversial circumstances in 2017, following the invasion of his home by troops of the Nigerian Army.

There had been speculations about his whereabouts and safety for over a year before he resurfaced in a video in which he was seen praying at the wailing wall in Jerusalem.

He also thereafter, addressed a press conference in which he restated his commitment to the actualization of Biafra.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government may have ruled out the possibility of requesting the extradition of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, from the United Kingdom government to Nigeria to face his treasonable felony trial.

Recall that Kanu, who holds a dual citizenship of Nigeria and the UK, was seen in a video clip said to be during a prayer session at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.  The video recently surfaced on the Internet, more than one year after he was declared missing, following soldiers raid at the South-East for ‘Operation Python Dance II’ last year,  at his house in Afara-Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia State, on September 14, 2017.

The IPOB leader had, subsequently after the video clip surfaced on the Internet, threatened in a live broadcast, not to ever submit himself to the trial that was abruptly suspended due to his sudden disappearance since last year.

Also, the UK government reportedly informed the Nigerian government last week of its intention to issue all necessary travel documents to Kanu.

But several sources at the Federal Ministry of Justice, the ministry of the Nigerian government which deals with all extradition issues, said there would be no need to ask UK to send the IPOB leader to Nigeria to face his trial.

One of the sources said, “It is absolutely unnecessary. Remember that there is already an ongoing procedure before the Federal High Court in Abuja where he is being prosecuted to compel his three sureties to produce him in court.

“By law, the sureties are the custodian of the defendant and one of their core duties is to ensure that the defendant attends his trial.

“So it is left for the sureties to find how they will bring him to court, not minding the defendant’s threat not to again submit himself to the authorities of the court.

“If they fail to bring him to court, at the end of the ongoing process, they must be ready to face the sanctions, including the forfeiture of their individual N100m bail bonds.”  One of the sources, who is familiar with the extradition process, also doubted the possibility of any success of such extradition process because the UK government had not been on the same page with Nigeria on the proscription of IPOB as a terrorist group.  The source stated, “The UK government has said it does not see IPOB as a terrorist organisation contrary to the Nigerian government’s position.  “So you can see the disparity in the stances of the two countries’ positions on the issue.”   Mr. Salihu Isah, the spokesperson for the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mr. Abubakar Malami, could not be reached for the AGF’s position on the possibility or otherwise of the Federal Government requesting Kanu’s extradition from the UK.

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, says President Muhammadu Buhari is dead, adding that the Nigerian leader has already been buried in Saudi Arabia. Kanu, who recently surfaced in Israel and has been vocal lately, lambasted those against Biafra in a new audio released on Sunday.

He said: Cowards run away when they see us. Some people were writing a lot of junks about us. That I was in London and we were just on Facebook. I arrived in the zoo on the 14th of October in the year of our Lord 2015. I told them I was coming and I came. They dared me to come back and I did.

When I arrived, I was taken to Abuja, I was confined to a very tiny space, I was chained like common criminal, I was handcuffed. They tried to break me but they know it was impossible, they can attest to it.

They mocked me that I will rot in jail, some prayed very fervently, those against Biafra. The walls of prison and detention couldn’t keep me.  I told Buhari before he died and was buried in Saudi Arabia that he was a madman. I called him a madman in his court.

I told the court they cannot jail me and they did not. I called the dead Buhari an illiterate madman in his own court and I walked away

I cannot recall anybody being able to do so in the history of the dumbnable (sic) zoological republic.

With very few and notable exceptions. Men like Femi Fani-Kayode and ex governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose. The two men I respect very much from the west.

There is no other human being that has been able to rise up against the murderous tendency of Buhari.

Buhari died because he dared to touch me. And I must warn every body, especially those who dare to touch me, that what happened to Buhari will happen to them.

Kanu said that when he came out from prison, President Muhammadu Buhari asked him what he wanted but he told him that he wanted them to open Igwuocha (Port Harcourt) seaport, Warri seaport, Calabar airport, and dredge River Niger. 
 Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has called for the boycott of the 2019 general  elections. Kanu also said he told Buhari that he wanted 100 per cent resource control but never heard from the presidency again.   Why do they want me dead? Biafrians should ask them.

When I came out of prison, I ensured that the activities of Fulani herdsmen were reduced to the barest minimum.  At no time during the time of Fulani herdsmen terrorism in our land did anybody call for help.  South East Governors and Ohaneze proscribed IPOB under serious pressure.  They agreed that Nnamdi Kanu should be killed. Not only me but my men, my father, brothers.  I said to them, IPOB is here to save Biafra but we are used to it.

 We are used to the hostility.  Biafrans are very very special, that is why they hate us.  Our mothers were humiliated in Owerri and what did Ohaneze do. They laughed at them and said, they went out to protest the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu, so it serves them right.  These are the people, who want us to regard them as leaders.  Igboland has been shrunk to just five states. 

If you go to Opobo, if you speak, Ibo, somebody there will understand you. We have indigenous Igbo speaking people in Kogi state but nobody is talking about them. Ohaneze and Igbo leaders are merely interested in furthering their own interests.  Biafra is older than the zoo called Nigeria. 

 I have nothing against Igbo leaders.  The priorities of some of our leaders are  misplaced.  They adopted Atiku but the same set of people are castigating Obi. When I was released from prison, on two occasions, I was approached and told that the president wants me to put in writing, what my requests are asides from outright independence. I told them that I want them to open Igwuocha seaport, Warri seaport, Calabar airport, dredge river Niger.

 I told them I want 100 per cent resource control…I never heard from them again.  Some of you have stopped talking about Leah Sharibu. Some of you have stopped talking about Dasuki, who has been granted bail by different courts of law.  Nobody is bothered about the wellbeing of the suffering people. Southern Kaduna is under siege and all everyone is talking about how to vote.  We are not going to vote, because we are greater than that nonsense. IPOB will not vote and I will give you reasons.

Why will a judge say, release El Zakkay and he is still in prison?
