BIAFRA NEWS : What my father taught me about Biafra and my heritage

Biafra is a dream that haunts me – it was a dream that was on the cusp of being realised and yet failed so painfully,’ recalls Ije Ajibade, telling the story of injustice that has shaped her life

M y  earliest memories of Biafra are the same as my earliest memories of my father. I can remember sitting next to him on a bed and I touched his arm. He turned to me and he said: “Can’t you see your father is crying.” It was many years later that I realised he was crying because of Biafra. That was 50 years ago today. I didn’t see my father cry again. He was mourning the loss of the Biafra dream.

For me and for many of the diaspora, Biafra is a presence that haunts us. It is a part of our history that is not spoken about and yet we try to make sense of it by reading, watching plays and attending lectures. All of this in an attempt to understand this dream that was on the cusp of being realised and yet failed so painfully.

I was two when the war began and four when it ended. This was a civil war in Nigeria fought between the Nigerian government and the eastern region of Nigeria. Predominantly the home of the Igbo people, the eastern region – in response to violence and massacres, as well as political, economic, cultural and religious tensions – declared itself the State of Biafra on 30 May 1967 and seceded from Nigeria.

Nigeria was a creation of the British in 1914. It was established for colonial administrative convenience. It merged three separate cultures into one. To the north were the Fulani and Hausa-speaking people, often nomadic, principally of the Muslim faith. To the west of the River Niger were the Yoruba, largely farmers living under a rigid monarchical system and Christian. To the east were the predominantly Igbo-speaking people, also Christian, but with a strain of Judaism and more republican in their outlook. Nigeria is not (and never has been) a cohesive whole. However, in 1960, Nigeria was granted independence. Violence and coups ensued.

In response to Biafra’s secession, the Nigerian government, backed by the former colonial master, countered with a brutal war. Millions of Biafrans died, most as a result of the deliberate government policy of starvation. From July 1967 to January 1970, Biafrans fought to free themselves from Nigerian oppression and from the lingering vestiges of poisonous colonialism. Biafra was starved into submission. Biafra was, and still is, a powerful vision of freedom and self-determination.

I have a deep and abiding rootedness in Biafra and the UK. My father studied at the LSE in the early 1960s and his first job as an academic was in England. I was born in the UK and brought up in two different cultures. To me, Biafra is a dream and a shadow. It is a dream of my father. I remember bouncing into the kitchen aged nine or 10 (we were living in Norwich at the time) and informing my mother that I was Biafran because Dad said so, and she told me (quite rightly) that Biafra does not exist. I ignored her. This was 1975, five years after the war had ended but my father still dreamed. He was Biafran and so were we. At least once a week we had to eat fufu, a traditional Biafran meal. As far as my father was concerned, fufu, like our Biafran identity, was both compulsory and necessary and he made sure that we knew this. My sisters and me would hanker after fish and chips!

The SFI Foundation, Inc. (SFI) is a non-profit organization established to issue and administer standards for the quality assurance of specialty performance and ..

My father died 17 years ago. We flew his body home to be buried. It went without saying that he needed to be laid to rest in the place that was truly home for him. My father’s tie to the home country was a tie to the dream of Biafra. He never stopped believing in Biafra. It was a passion and a dream that consumed him. His passion for Biafra shaped the way my two sisters and I were brought up. His passion for Biafra lingers in my life and has influenced the way I interact with the world and the way in which I struggle and thirst for justice.

But Biafra is also a shadow. Not just for me, but for many people. It is the shadow of our past in Nigeria as a nation, whether we acknowledge it or not. The shadow of Biafra exists in the memories of the war and the many stories that are told about it behind closed doors. The shadows and dreams of Biafra are invisible but still very profound.

Dad brought us up to believe in Biafra. He was always deeply passionate about Biafra and our home town of Mbaise. When I was 12, we moved to Nigeria from the UK. Dad wanted us to attend school in Nigeria. We lived in a small town called Idah on the eastern bank of the River Niger in the middle belt region of Nigeria.

My father had unwritten rules. We were not allowed to study in the north. We were not allowed to marry anybody from the north and he gave us strict instructions to marry from Mbaise in the southeast of Nigeria. Needless to say, that was the one time I disobeyed him because I eventually married a Yoruban man from the west of Nigeria.

The furthest we ever got to the north was a town called Jos and I think we drove through Abuja once. As far as my father was concerned, northern Nigeria was a no-go area. He was living in the shadow of Biafra and when we think about the way so many Biafrans were killed in the north before the war and what is happening today with Boko Haram, I can understand why he felt so strongly about this.

Some years after his death I remember rebuking a cousin of mine when I heard that she had moved to northern Nigeria. That fear and the shadow were very much alive for me even though I was living in London. These shadows became part of our day-to-day lives, affecting our choices and decisions.

As an adult I can see more deeply how the dream of Biafra has shaped who I am. I am a priest, but I am also a community activist. My thirst for justice and the need for a better world was nurtured by my father and his dream of Biafra.

During the war, my father was away campaigning and trying to raise money for an organisation called The Friends of Biafra. His dream was so powerful and the needs of Biafra so urgent that he simply had to leave his family at this crucial time and respond. My youngest sister was born then, but Biafra had to come first.

His thirst for justice and his activism shaped my own thirst for these things. At eight, I was raising money to buy presents for elderly people in a nearby home. At 10 I was joining sponsored sleep outs for Amnesty International. At 12 I was writing about Steve Biko. The dream of my father continues to shape and influence me in my contemporary social justice activities.

Biafra is part of who I am. It is part of my family heritage. I remember the stories about the war where my relatives fled from town to town to avoid the approaching Nigerian soldiers. I remember the stories of what they did to survive.

I had a cousin who went by the name of Surpriser. His real name was Goddy and he fought in the Biafran army. During the war he hid the family’s valuables and property by digging a deep hole somewhere on family land. After the war he recovered everything and from that time onwards he was known as “Surpriser”.

As a teenager, I always thought he was rather odd and often under the influence of something but I think the fighting affected him in more ways than we ever fully understood. I wish he was still alive so that I could speak to him and ask him what happened. As an adult as I look back over my life I can see how Biafra has shaped my life in both dreams and shadows. And I know that many of us in the Biafran diaspora have similar stories and experiences.

It is now 50 years after the end of the war and I think it is right for us to remember, because in doing so we honour our ancestors. We honour those who died during the war often from starvation, and we honour those who fought for Biafra.

I think that there is still the need for answers and dialogue about the war. I think it is a shame that Nigeria has never seen the need to have such dialogue or some kind of public acknowledgement or remembrance of the war. These dreams and shadows will never disappear. They need to be embraced and they need to be acknowledged because these dreams and shadows abound today.

The people waving the Biafran flag today in protest are mostly people who were young children during the war and some were not even born at that time. They wave the Biafran flag because the dreams and shadows of Biafra are as strong today as they were when my father had them. These dreams and shadows affect Nigeria today; the shadows will never disappear and the dreams will never die. The Nigerian government needs to realise that silence is not an answer to the truth.

There is a passage in the Bible where God asks Cain “Where is your brother Abel?” Cain tries to rebuff God, but God says: “Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.” The blood that was shed for Biafra is perhaps part of the reason why these dreams and shadows still exist. It is important for us to remember Biafra but it is also important for Nigeria to remember Biafra and for the United Kingdom to remember the part it played in the cruel devastation of the Biafran people.

As for me and people like me, we will continue to remember, especially through stories and plays, films and drama, dialogue and reflection and through the activism for Biafra that still continues today. Let us continue to remember. Let us continue to dream. Igbo Kwenu! Biafra Kwenu!

BIAFRA NEWS : Off-cycle decisions: IPOB cautions DSS for denying Nnamdi Kanu admittance to guests

The Native Nation of Biafra, IPOB, on Monday, cautioned the Branch of State Administrations, DSS, to be cautious with the treatment of its chief, Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB said the DSS's choice to deny its chief, Nnamdi Kanu, admittance to guests was dubious.

It said the mystery police's case of denying Kanu admittance to guests because of last Saturday's off-cycle governorship political decision in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States was bizarre.

Emma Strong, the representative of IPOB, claimed that the mystery police had denied Kanu admittance to guests last Thursday.

In an explanation he marked, he blamed DSS for endeavoring to torment and make things challenging for Kanu.

As per Strong: "The worldwide family and development of the Native Nation of Biafra (IPOB) capably drove by our prophet and preeminent pioneer Mazi Nnamdi KANU raises alert over the disavowal and badgering of our Chief's guests by the DSS base camp's staff in Abuja.

"On Thursday, the ninth of November, 2023, DSS would not permit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu admittance to his guests on a feeble reason.

"The case of not having sufficient staff to deal with the coordinated operations for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's guests due to Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi States decisions by Abuja DSS as a justification for denying Mazi Nnamdi Kanu admittance to his week after week guests is ludicrously ridiculous.

"During the overall appointment of Official, Governorship, Public Gathering, and State Get together, our chief was permitted guests to visit him at DSS isolation and confinement office. So for what reason should DSS deny Mazi Nnamdi KANU of guests as a result of Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa States governorship decisions?

"This is a determined endeavor to torment and make things challenging for Mazi Nnamdi KANU. The DSS's reason of denying our chief guests as requested by the court is dubious. We, hence, caution DSS to be cautious in taking care of the issues of our chief.

"We expect no reasons or particular guests for our chief proceeding. IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu comprehend the tricks of the Janjaweed controlled DSS and the Fulani legislature of Nigeria."

Ejimakor said Kanu was playful regardless of his continuous struggles.

Throughout recent months, Kanu's legal counselors have been unsettling for free clinical consideration for the IPOB.

At a certain point, Kanu's legitimate group blamed the DSS for keeping free specialists from taking care of the IPOB pioneer.

Nonetheless, Ejimajor tweeted: "Update: I have finished up the present appearance with Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Regardless of the relative multitude of struggles, he stays playful and his all the best for the dependable withstand."

BIAFRA NEWS : Simon Ekpa released by Finnish Police after hours of questioning

A popular pro-Biafra separatist agitator, Simon Ekpa, has been released by Police in Finland, hours after he was arrested and grilled on Thursday, according to HS.

Earlier in the day, Ekpa was escorted out of his apartment in Lahti by Finnish policemen.

He was later released after the police allegedly arrested him for a suspected crime.

The Finnish Central Criminal Police has now confirmed Ekpa’s release on Thursday.

The police claimed Ekpa’s arrest was in connection with the ongoing preliminary investigation.

“The person being questioned today is suspected of a crime. We will return to the title on Friday,” Tommi Reen from the Central Criminal Police told HS during a phone interview.

Ekpa, a self-acclaimed disciple of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, had repeatedly ordered the people of the South-East to observe a sit-at-home and asked them to boycott the country’s general elections billed for Saturday.

BIAFRA NEWS : African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement

African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement

Trustees, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, described the alleged endorsements as fraudulent, void and of no effect.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement of other political parties and their candidates for 2023 by a faction of the party.

Earlier, there was a report that ADC has endorsed the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, for the Saturday's presidential election. The purported endorsement was held at the River Plate Gardens in Abuja on Monday morning.

The coalition, which is made up of several star alliance partners such as Nigeria Mothers for Good Governance, Fulani United, and League of Imams, among others, said they seek to create a formidable force for the Obi/Datti ticket.

The event was attended by prominent figures such as the ADC National Chairman, Chief Raphael Nwosu, BoT Chairman,Dr Mani Ibrahim Ahmed and Prof Pat Utomi.

However, a statement by ADC's Chairman, Board of Trustees, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, described the alleged endorsements as fraudulent, void and of no effect, adding that the endorsement was being carried by a faction of the party not known to law for pecuniary gains.

It blamed a faction of the party, led by its immediate past National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu for the anti-party activity.

According to the party, Nwosu’s faction has allegedly divided itself into three groups which are now illegally engaged in endorsing parties like the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) for 2023 general elections all in a bid to make quick money.

Akwashiki warned those involved in the act to desist, noting that if not they would face the full wrath of the law.

According to the statement, its presidential candidate for 2023, Dumebi Kachikwu, had “long warned about criminals in ADC who sell the party to the bigger parties.

“They have divided themselves into three groups and collected money from APC, PDP and Labour. One party, three endorsements within the space of four days. Shameful.”

The statement further stated party under the interim leadership of Senator Akwashiki, described those who carried the endorsements as “impostors” and “impersonators” who were no longer members of ADC.

"Therefore, their endorsement has nothing to do with the authentic ADC recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“We are appalled that renegades who are no longer known to the ADC can constitute themselves into a criminal gang to perpetuate illegalities all in the name of making quick money.

“This condemnable action will not stop our party or its presidential candidate from running the race to the very end.

“We are determined to ensure that the bright chances of all ADC candidates in the forthcoming general elections are not sold or mortgaged as was the practice in the past.

“The arm of the law will soon catch up with all those responsible for these criminal and shameful activities," the statement partly read.

BIAFRA NEWS : Any attack against Igbos during elections will be reciprocated – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned against attacking Igbos during the forthcoming 2023 elections.

IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, warned that the group would reciprocate any attack on Igbos during the forthcoming elections.

In a statement, Powerful said IPOB would not stand by and allow anybody to threaten or attack Igbos during the elections.

According to Powerful: “The attention of the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of our great leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU has been drawn to a threat from a small village Monarch in Yoruba Land to the effect that they will deal with non-indigenes, especially Ndigbo who doesn’t vote in the upcoming elections according to the wish of the monarch. This sort of threat tells you all you need to know about the Nigerian selection process, which they like to call an election.

“IPOB as a freedom movement do reaffirm our non-recognition and or participation of (in) the Nigerian electoral process because the results do not represent the will of the people, and this is why an idiot somewhere will have the gumption to threaten what they called non-indigenes and the Igbo nation in particular. While we Biafrans await a date for Referendum, nobody should threaten Ndigbo and Biafrans residing temporarily in other parts of Nigeria for any reason.

“IPOB want to state unequivocally that any attack in any part of Nigeria on the Biafran people or the Igbo Nation or their properties on account of the choice of individuals to participate and vote according to their conviction during this so-called election will be met with adequate and commensurate action.

“We urge men and women of good conscience in the North and West to caution their traditional rulers and politicians who want to use Ndigbo and Biafrans as scapegoats in this skewed election process to be very careful and retrace their steps. Gone are the days when Ndigbo will be threatened and intimidated during elections. As long as Biafrans have not been given the opportunity to exit Nigeria via a referendum, IPOB will not stand by and watch anyone Nigerian or non-Nigerian to threaten Biafrans or carry out such threats against us and get away with it.

“Even as IPOB do not wish to be drawn into the ZOO politics, nobody has the right to threaten Ndigbo or attempt to compel them to vote for a particular party or candidate. Any Biafran who wants to vote in this election has the right to vote for any party or candidate of his/her choice, and nobody should direct or threaten them to vote for a particular party in their community or state. If anyone threatens to attack Ndigbo and Biafrans or non-indigenes residents in your place, be rest assured that the people being attacked will not sit and watch their property and life being destroyed and will activate their right to Self Defence.

“We are urging Ndigbo, Biafrans and non-indigenes everywhere to be prepared to defend their property, family and their own lives during and after this election period. Do not allow anyone to use you or your family as a sacrificial lamb this time around.

“It is very imperative that we remind those who think highly of themselves and believe they will resort to violence and attack Biafrans that they do not have the monopoly of violence. Until Referendum is conducted and Biafrans exit Nigeria, those who have the habit of threatening and attacking Ndigbo must understand that it will not be business as usual this time around because their lives also will be in danger when they attack others.

“These nitwits believe that Biafrans are soft targets to threaten and attack at will well they should know that it will not be so this time around. These morons never threatened fulani not vote for any other party except their own party and their own person but rather directed their misguided outbursts against Biafrans and Indigbo. We dare them to attack NDIGBO and Biafrans this time around and see what will happen.”

Powerful urged Igbos to defend themselves “as long as Nigeria forced and kept us into this unwanted contraption, we are advising Biafrans to be fully ready to meet the coming challenge squarely and unwaveringly.”

BIAFRA NEWS : IPOB Lists Out Names Of APC Party Members Who Held ‘Secret Meeting’ With Orji Uzor Kalu To Abduct 25 Biafran Members

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Nigerian Army of raiding and killing innocent residents of the South-East region inside the Ohafia Military Barracks in Abia State.

The group alleged that the army carried out the killings on the approval of the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu.

IPOB made the allegation in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, saying that Kalu had murdered sleep and should be ready for a long-drawn battle by the group.

IPOB stated that it "confirms the report of barbaric and secret murder of arrested innocent Biafrans by Nigeria terrorist military inside Ohafia military barrack under the approval of Alhaji Orji Uzor Kalu. We want to inform Orji Kalu that he and his political accomplices have murdered sleep. They should be ready to confront IPOB in a long drawn battle."

According to IPOB, "Alhaji Orji Uzor Kalu and some people and soldiers in Ohafia held a secret meeting yesterday in Asaga Ohafia and celebrated the killing and execution of our members recently taken into Ohafia Military barracks. They agreed to deal with anybody suspected to be members or sympathisers of IPOB or Biafra agitation.

“They wrote down and submitted 25-names of young men to be abducted as IPOB members to the Nigeria military for possible execution."

The group noted that the security challenge of kidnapping and car snatching around Lokpanta, Isukwuato, Isuochi Umunneochi and Okigwe Umulolo routes were "created and spoon-fed by Alhaji Orji Uzor Kalu."

IPOB listed names of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) members who it alleged were in the said secret meeting "Mr. Ibe Okpo; Hon. Anya Okorie; Chief Michael Nmecha; Awa Kalu Awa; Abuja Uche Imo; Aso Oburu; Roland Onwuka; Nmong Agwu; Awa Nna Lord; Uma Okereke and Biggie."

IPOB further alleged that "Orji Uzor Kalu and some of his APC members are agents paid to maim and destroy our people especially the IPOB family members in Abia North.

“For colluding with murderous military to illegally arrest and kill our people, we are declaring Alhaji Orji Uzor Kalu and the above listed traitors as persona non grata in the Eastern Region.

"Anywhere they are seen should be treated as enemies. They are Fulanis in Igbo's skin. Anywhere Orji Uzor is seen doing campaign rally in Biafraland he should be brought to justice. Orji Uzor Kalu should not be allowed to have any political rallies in our territory any longer because he is murdering our people expecially the youths in Ohafia Abia State and he will be held to account for their death," IPOB stated.

BIAFRA NEWS : Kanu’s release reverberates in France

The directive by the United Nations Working Group on Human Rights and Arbitrary Detention for the Federal Government to unconditionally release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, reverberated at Corsica Libera Conference.

IPOB joined other emerging nations from across the world to attend the conference held recently in the France Island region.

Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, who disclosed this at the weekend in a statement, said that IPOB by attending the conference has again accomplished another precious milestone in its unceasing work to extricate the land of Biafra from bondage.

He claimed that “IPOB has placed Biafra for the first time in its history in the minds of the government and people of Corsica during the just concluded EGhjurnate Internazionale Conference which hosted IPOB delegation representing Biafra, a country of about 70 million people currently ruled by Nigeria.”

He also disclosed that IPOB is currently conducting an international information campaign tailored towards demanding the release of its leader, Kanu.

“The IPOB delegation brought to the fore the plight of the Indigenous People of Biafran who are being massacred daily in their numbers by the Nigerian government’s security forces on the one hand and the Islamic terrorist and jihadist groups like Boko Haram, ISWAP, Ansaru and Fulani herdsmen and Fulani bandits.

“Mazi Chika Edoziem, IPOB head of directorate of state of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, addressed the emerging nations on behalf of the IPOB movement worldwide. It is very important for every Biafran to know that one of the major aganda of the IPOB delegation to the E Ghjurnate Internazionale is to secure the support of all the delegates to this Conference for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,” he said.

According to him, delegates from emerging nations that attended the conference included those from the host country Corsica, Catlunya, Scotland, Tahiti, Sardigna, The Basque, Kabylie, Guyana, New Caledonia, as well as the Artsakh Republic, among others.

BIAFRA NEWS : MY Open Letter To Vladimir Putin , Russia President

Dear Mr. President, thank you for giving me this little opportunity to write to you on an issue that probably gets overlooked by most Presidents who also ignored the issue whereas it’s a breach to world security and also to world peace.

Firstly, my names are Kings JV Chibuzor, I am a Biafran activist who is agitating for the freedom of the oppressed people of Biafra from Nigeria where tyrannous Hitlers have taken over mantle of leadership in a bid to frustrate the rules of law.

Sir, it’s my unabated pleasure to congratulate you on your undisputed efforts in ensuring the termination of terrorism and imposing a secured world for mankind.

Your admissible efforts in securing the world and more especially the Christians from the radical Islams and also Islamic terrorists is acquiesced and endorsed by Biafrans.

We the indigenous people of Biafra under the leadership of NNAMDI KANU, want to thank you for that and also say we stand with you.

Mr. President, my aim of writing this letter is to alert you on the ongoing genocide being committed by President Muhammadu Buhari against the people of Biafra in Nigeria.

Sir, President Muhammadu Buhari have been committing crimes against humanity since he came into power, over four thousands Biafrans have been massacred by the Nigerian military as ordered by the President Muhammadu Buhari.

Few days back Amnesty International released a report of human right abuses, torture, false disappearance and massacre of unarmed Biafran protesters by Nigerian Military.

These are unarmed people who are exercising their inalienable right for self determination which is under United Nations law of every indigenous people which same Nigeria is signatory to. Here is the link to the Amnesty report  https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2016/11/peaceful-pro-biafra-activists-killed-in-chilling-crackdown/.

I want to also bring it to your notice that the only difference between the Nigerian military and Boko Haram terrorists is the name tagged to it.

The Nigerian military have turned the peaceful Eastern region of Nigeria to a war zone, molesting ,torturing , king and using dangerous chemicals on unarmed innocent Biafrans,  The aim of the Buhari’s administration is to make sure he completes the annihilation of 1987 Biafra-Nigeria civil war, were over 3.5million BIAFRANS mostly children were massacred.

Now, President Muhammadu Buhari went further to amass war planes from different Islamic and Arabic countries, they have reached an agreement with the Russian in Nigeria to acquire war planes from Russia.

Dear president, how can the Russian government reach in such agreement with a murderous and Islamic country? forgetting that current Nigerian government is sponsoring Boko Haram terrorists.

They have released all the Boko Haram detainee’s in the Nigerian prisons and granting them Amnesty to kill, molest and intimidate christians Biafrans in Nigeria. Please sir, I urge you to halt any sell of war planes or any type of ammunitions to the Nigerian government because any weapon sold to the Nigerian government will be possibly used on innocent civilians.

The President of Nigeria have been collaborating with President Barack Obama and the Saudi Prince in committing war crimes against the people of Biafra by selling war jets and sort of dangerous weapons to Nigeria government.

Whatever, justification exists for exercising influence in matters of conscience lies in serving the well-being of humankind. So, selling Russian war planes or any Russian sophisticated weapon to the Nigerian government is same as sponsoring the genocidal act against innocent civilians who are being massacred by the Nigerian military for seeking for self determination.

Every day that passes, danger grows that the rising fires of Nigerian military prejudice against the people of Biafra; will ignite a worldwide conflagration, the consequences which are unthinkable.

Such a danger should be prevented and also should be unaided by the Russian government in order to ensure a secure and safer world for the betterment of mankind. Sir, I hope I have made sense of argument on why Russia shouldn’t participate in any form Arms deal negotiations with the Nigeria government.

#StopBiafraKillings #FreeNnamdiKanu

God bless Russia and the Indigenous people of Biafra.

BIAFRA NEWS : 2023 , Peter Obi can’t compromise Biafra agitation, we don’t know him – IPOB fires back at Gumi

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday lashed out at controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over his comment that the

emergence of Peter Obi as the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate has slowed down Biafra agitation in the Southeast.

However, IPOB believes that Obi’s involvement in Nigerian politics can’t compromise the agitation for Biafra.

DAILY POST reported that Gumi said the emergence of Obi as LP presidential candidate had slowed down the agitation for Biafra.

The cleric had said the Obi’s movement had reduced IPOB’s activities, thereby bringing relative peace to the Southeast.

Condemning Gumi’s remark, IPOB reiterated that it does not recognize Obi as a Biafran because he opted to engage in Nigerian politics.

The separatist group noted that Obi’s involvement in the presidential race won’t affect its agitation for Biafra.

IPOB stressed that it does not engage in Nigeria’s election process because it’s “shambolic” and fraudulent.

A statement by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, described Gumi as clueless and uninformed about its activities.

The statement reads partly: “The attention of the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra under the command of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been drawn to the unguarded statements from Sheikh Gumi, alleging that IPOB agitation has slowed down in the South Eastern region since Peter Obi picked up the tickets from Labour Party for presidential race in Nigeria.

“We understand that some unscrupulous elements in Nigeria, especially Fulani elements, were thinking that Peter Obi who is among those running the race to become Nigeria President would affect us or change our decisions to pursue the freedom of our dear Nation Biafra.

“We have said it before now that IPOB does not know Peter Obi and Peter Obi does not know IPOB. If Peter Obi knows IPOB and its aims and objectives, he wouldn’t have come out in the first place to contest or waste his wealth and vast knowledge, talent and wisdom which God Almighty gave and blessed Biafrans with in the Zoological Republic.

“We can never slow down agitation until Biafra comes.”

IPOB said Gumi and his likes would not understand how Biafra would be actualized.

BIAFRA NEWS : Terrorists celebrate during ISWAP attack on Kuje prison in Abuja [Video]

Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released footage of the hit on the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja.

Scores of terrorists invaded the prison at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night, operating for more than two hours.

The attackers stormed the government establishment with bombs, grenades and assault weapons.

In the footage, the insurgents could be heard rejoicing after breaching the facility; some vehicles are seen on fire.

The incursion of the penitentiary freed several terrorists and other hardened criminals convicted or in remand.

BIAFRA NEWS : War, You’ve made a big mistake – NATO tells Russia

NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg has said that it was clear Russia underestimated Ukraine’s resistance.

According to him, President Vladimir Putin of Russia also underestimated the unity of the NATO military alliance, adding that Putin has made a big mistake.

“He [Putin] has made a big mistake; he totally underestimated the strength of Ukrainian armed forces,” he told CNN.

According to him, President Putin did not foresee the courage being displayed by President Volodymyr Zelensky and the people of Ukraine.

He also claimed that the Russian leader had failed in achieving one of his major objectives at the beginning of the war, which was to weaken the NATO alliance.

Stoltenberg believes that what is before Putin at this point is a more strengthened and stronger NATO with two new members, Finland and Sweden, the former which shares a border with Russia.

Stoltenberg added that he is ignoring Putin’s rhetoric and that he will “assess him on his actions.”

BIAFRA NEWS : Don’t repeat what Rivers did to Igbos after Biafra war – HURIWA warns Goodluck Jonathan

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has warned former President Goodluck Jonathan to shelve the plans of entering the race for the 2023 presidency.

There are growing rumours that the former President has yet to declare his interest because he was yet to receive the assurance from the All Progressives Congress, APC, that he would run as the party’s consensus candidate.

Other rumours say that Goodluck Jonathan is seeking the blessing or approval of President Muhammadu Buhari to join the APC and grab the party’s sole ticket uncontested.

Addressing his supporters in Abuja a few weeks ago, Jonathan did not deny nursing the intention to run for the 2023 presidency as he told them to watch out.

Jonathan stated categorically that the political process regarding his decision to contest for president in 2023 was ongoing.

Many Nigerians believe that Jonathan was being used as a tool by Northern APC chieftains, to reduce the number of years the South will stay in power, having served four years as an elected Southern president already.

Jonathan became the first victim of the merger of some political parties and political bigwigs under the umbrella of the APC in 2014, as he, in 2015, became the first democratically elected President of Nigeria to be defeated in an election and removed from office by a new administration.

With the current administration having allegedly failed in all areas of governance and left the country almost in a state of beyond repair, it is understood that some Northern APC chieftains see Jonathan as the best candidate to sell to Nigerians, who they would welcome with a warm embrace.

But HURIWA is warning the Old Rivers-State-born politician to avoid such a move, adding that contesting the election would be seen as reversing what happened to the Igbo in River State after the Nigerian-Biafra war.

“Our parents who had houses in the State lost all houses during the war. But my father had so many houses in the North, but they were all taken care of by a Northerner,” HURIWA’s Emmanuel Onwubiko said in a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

“After the 30-month-old war, my father came back and collected the old rent and he got all his houses back. But River State took all the housing assets belonging to Igbo people in Rivers.

“So, Goodluck Jonathan should not replay that hatred that they showed to the Igbo after the war because if he accepts to be candidate of APC and become the president, it means he has short-changed the Igbo who gave him their all.

“If he does that, the South-South and the South-East will never have peace or trust each other for life. Because what happened to us after the war in the 60s, when we lost so many housing assets, they have not been forgotten.

“So, if he tried a second betrayer by accepting APC’s enticement to become President for only four years, he is doing it because he wants to short-change the Igbos,” he said.

BIAFRA NEWS : UK Government Recognises Nnamdi Kanu’s Indigenous People Of Biafra As Terrorist Organisation, Violent Group

In 2017, the Nigerian government declared IPOB as a terrorist organisation.

The United Kingdom has recognised the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation and a group that uses violence to achieve its aims.

The United Kingdom Visas and Immigration office disclosed this in its May 2022 policy update.

UKVI clearly referred to IPOB whose leader, Nnamdi Kanu is currently in the custody of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) as a terrorist organisation to be excluded from its asylum programme for violent crimes in Nigeria’s South East.

“IPOB is proscribed as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government, and members of the group and its paramilitary wing – the Eastern Security Network (created in December 2020) – have reportedly committed human rights violations in Nigeria,” UKVI said in its policy notes.

“If a person has been involved with IPOB (and/or an affiliated group), MASSOB or any other ‘Biafran’ group that incites or uses violence to achieve its aims, decision makers must consider whether one (or more) of the exclusion clauses under the Refugee Convention is applicable.

“Persons who commit human rights violations must not be granted asylum.”

In 2017, the Nigerian government declared IPOB as a terrorist organisation.

In recent times, the proscribed group has been accused of perpetrating violent attacks in the South East in order to achieve its secession agenda but IPOB has repeatedly denied being behind the attacks.

Ivan Sheehan, an American academic who is the executive director of the school of public and international affairs at the University of Baltimore recently asked the United States government to designate the group as a terrorist organisation.

According to Sheehan, the establishment of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) by IPOB signalled the end of the group’s “pretenses of being a peaceful movement”.

The American academic also accused IPOB’s leader, Kanu of supporting terrorism and issuing threats via Radio Biafra.

“Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB’s leader, is clearly unconcerned. That he feels no need to even disguise his support of terrorism is worrisome,” Sheehan wrote.

“Through its online platform, ‘Radio Biafra’, and other social media, IPOB have increasingly used inflammatory rhetoric to encourage secessionist aspirations and resistance to the authorities, including violence (see Overview of groups, Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of ‘Biafra’ (MASSOB) and Separatist groups outside of Nigeria).

“Sources reported that the security forces have arrested hundreds of IPOB supporters at different events, particularly between 2015 and 2017 and including during raids on homes of IPOB leaders. Since 2015, IPOB has also claimed that the security forces have used excessive force, including killing and injuring hundreds of its supporters (see Indigenous People of ‘Biafra’: Clashes between state and secessionist groups and Treatment of IPOB).

“Several sources also reported clashes between IPOB and the authorities during 2018 and 2019. Further clashes and violence occurred between security forces and IPOB in August 2020 in the city of Enugu, and in October 2020 during confrontations in Rivers State. In November 2020, there were reports that security forces carried out operations against IPOB in the Oyigbo area of Rivers State. However, these reports were denied by state governor Nyesom Wike. These incidents resulted in the arrests and deaths of IPOB supporters as well as security force personnel (see Indigenous People of ‘Biafra’: Clashes between state and secessionist groups and Treatment of IPOB).

“In December 2020, IPOB is reported to have set up the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a para-military force (see Overview of groups, Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of ‘Biafra’ (MASSOB) and Separatist groups outside of Nigeria).

“In February 2021, the Nigerian military launched land and air operations against ESN operatives (see Aims, Activities, Indigenous People of ‘Biafra’: Clashes between state and secessionist groups and Treatment of IPOB).

“Clashes between IPOB and the authorities continued into 2021. The group were involved in attacks reported to have taken place in April 2021 in Imo State where a police headquarters was destroyed and over 1,800 prisoners were reported to have escaped from a prison, although IPOB denied involvement in the attacks. In May 2021, clashes between state security forces and IPOB resulted in the deaths of both members of IPOB/ESN and the security forces. Sources also reported in June 2021 that the Nigerian Army had stated that IPOB/ESN had killed 128 military and police, 15 Civil Defence officers and 31 community policing members as well as over 100 people for not supporting IPOB. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, denied this claim. Clashes between state security forces and IPOB/ESN continued throughout the second half of 2021 into 2022. Media sources reported the deaths of 11 security forces in June 2021, with a further 22 deaths between October and December 2021 inclusive (see Aims, Activities, Indigenous People of ‘Biafra’: Clashes between state and secessionist groups and Treatment of IPOB).

“Following an attack on police stations by IPOB members in Rivers State in October 2020, the governor offered a reward for information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the IPOB state leader, Stanley Mgbere. Kanu publicly issued a N100m (c. £170-175,000) bounty on the governor in response. CPIT could find no further information in the sources consulted that Mr Mgbere had been located and arrested. In November 2020, 2 unnamed suspected senior IPOB leaders were reportedly arrested in Rivers State (see Clashes between state and IPOB and Bibliography).

“As well as arrests of IPOB supporters/armed activists, a number of IPOB senior members have been arrested including the IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who was originally jailed in 2015 for 2 years and then subsequently released on bail. Following a clash with soldiers at his home in Abia state in 2017, Kanu fled Nigeria whilst on bail facing charges of terrorism and incitement. In June 2021 the Nigerian government announced he had been arrested in a third country and returned. Kanu remains in custody in Nigeria and is subject to ongoing legal proceedings (see Arrest and detention).”

BIAFRA NEWS : 2023 Presidency, I Can’t Tell If I Would Contest – Ex-President, Jonathan

Jonathan said he could not tell if he would run for presidency in 2023,

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday reacted to calls that he should run for the 2023 Presidency.
Jonathan said he could not tell if he would run for presidency in 2023, Daily Post reports.

He disclosed this while addressing some supporters who besieged his office in Abuja, asking him to run for the Presidency in 2023.

Jonathan was quoted as saying, “I cannot tell if I’m contesting.”

Hundreds of supporters, including women and youth groups, had stormed his office, asking him to contest for President in 2023.

The supporters arrived at the office with a musical band around 8:50am.
They lamented that hunger, insecurity,
and unemployment, among others, had become the order of the day since he left office.

The supporters said that both men and women had turned to beggars because of the unfavourable policies of the present administration.

BIAFRA NEWS : The pro-Biafra secessionist group also stated that all schools in South-East will receive a copy of the Biafran anthem to teach pupils and students.

Come Out In Multitudes On Nnamdi Kanu’s Next Court Appearance, IPOB Urges Supporters

The Indigenous People of Biafra has urged members and supporters to get prepared and exhibit solidarity with the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, when he appears in court on January 18, 2022.

IPOB said this in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, on Wednesday.

The pro-Biafra secessionist group also stated that all schools in South-East will receive a copy of the Biafran anthem to teach pupils and students.

It went further to declare that every May 30 will be marked to celebrate the independence anniversary of Biafra, boasting that nothing will change their plans.

The group reiterated that it shall charge its members to protest across the globe against the abduction of Kanu in Kenya and his rendition to Nigeria, which has led to his detention with Nigeria’s secret police since June 2021.

The statement reads, “We are the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra ably led by Nnamdi Kanu. We wish to commend Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of Biafra freedom for their resilience and efforts towards the actualisation of Biafran independence.

“We want to declare that Nigerian Government and its security agencies will have no peace of mind unless they release our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally because our God will torment them. Kanu is on a divine project and nobody will hold him and have peace of mind.

“The leadership of IPOB headed by Mazi Chika Edoziem has given an order for all IPOB family across the world to activate the protest to show our anger towards the illegal abduction and extraordinary rendition of our leader from Kenya to Nigeria. To this end, we want to inform all Biafrans to get ready to solidarise with our leader as usual in his next court appearance scheduled for January 18, 19 and 20.

“It is on record that the Kenyan Government has openly confessed that kidnapping and extra-rendition of our leader were unlawful and we must leverage on that confession and protest his abduction and rendition by the Nigerian Government in collaboration with her allies.

“Again, concerning the stoppage of reading of Nigerian national anthem in our schools, we want every school to start reading Biafra national anthem and soon every school is going to receive a copy of Biafra national anthem because Biafra is coming and nothing will stop it.

“May 30 of every year will be celebrated as independence anniversary and nothing will stop that.

“Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be released. Nigeria cannot be releasing bandits and terrorists but keep freedom seekers behind bars perpetually.”
