BIAFRA NEWS : What my father taught me about Biafra and my heritage

Biafra is a dream that haunts me – it was a dream that was on the cusp of being realised and yet failed so painfully,’ recalls Ije Ajibade, telling the story of injustice that has shaped her life

M y  earliest memories of Biafra are the same as my earliest memories of my father. I can remember sitting next to him on a bed and I touched his arm. He turned to me and he said: “Can’t you see your father is crying.” It was many years later that I realised he was crying because of Biafra. That was 50 years ago today. I didn’t see my father cry again. He was mourning the loss of the Biafra dream.

For me and for many of the diaspora, Biafra is a presence that haunts us. It is a part of our history that is not spoken about and yet we try to make sense of it by reading, watching plays and attending lectures. All of this in an attempt to understand this dream that was on the cusp of being realised and yet failed so painfully.

I was two when the war began and four when it ended. This was a civil war in Nigeria fought between the Nigerian government and the eastern region of Nigeria. Predominantly the home of the Igbo people, the eastern region – in response to violence and massacres, as well as political, economic, cultural and religious tensions – declared itself the State of Biafra on 30 May 1967 and seceded from Nigeria.

Nigeria was a creation of the British in 1914. It was established for colonial administrative convenience. It merged three separate cultures into one. To the north were the Fulani and Hausa-speaking people, often nomadic, principally of the Muslim faith. To the west of the River Niger were the Yoruba, largely farmers living under a rigid monarchical system and Christian. To the east were the predominantly Igbo-speaking people, also Christian, but with a strain of Judaism and more republican in their outlook. Nigeria is not (and never has been) a cohesive whole. However, in 1960, Nigeria was granted independence. Violence and coups ensued.

In response to Biafra’s secession, the Nigerian government, backed by the former colonial master, countered with a brutal war. Millions of Biafrans died, most as a result of the deliberate government policy of starvation. From July 1967 to January 1970, Biafrans fought to free themselves from Nigerian oppression and from the lingering vestiges of poisonous colonialism. Biafra was starved into submission. Biafra was, and still is, a powerful vision of freedom and self-determination.

I have a deep and abiding rootedness in Biafra and the UK. My father studied at the LSE in the early 1960s and his first job as an academic was in England. I was born in the UK and brought up in two different cultures. To me, Biafra is a dream and a shadow. It is a dream of my father. I remember bouncing into the kitchen aged nine or 10 (we were living in Norwich at the time) and informing my mother that I was Biafran because Dad said so, and she told me (quite rightly) that Biafra does not exist. I ignored her. This was 1975, five years after the war had ended but my father still dreamed. He was Biafran and so were we. At least once a week we had to eat fufu, a traditional Biafran meal. As far as my father was concerned, fufu, like our Biafran identity, was both compulsory and necessary and he made sure that we knew this. My sisters and me would hanker after fish and chips!

The SFI Foundation, Inc. (SFI) is a non-profit organization established to issue and administer standards for the quality assurance of specialty performance and ..

My father died 17 years ago. We flew his body home to be buried. It went without saying that he needed to be laid to rest in the place that was truly home for him. My father’s tie to the home country was a tie to the dream of Biafra. He never stopped believing in Biafra. It was a passion and a dream that consumed him. His passion for Biafra shaped the way my two sisters and I were brought up. His passion for Biafra lingers in my life and has influenced the way I interact with the world and the way in which I struggle and thirst for justice.

But Biafra is also a shadow. Not just for me, but for many people. It is the shadow of our past in Nigeria as a nation, whether we acknowledge it or not. The shadow of Biafra exists in the memories of the war and the many stories that are told about it behind closed doors. The shadows and dreams of Biafra are invisible but still very profound.

Dad brought us up to believe in Biafra. He was always deeply passionate about Biafra and our home town of Mbaise. When I was 12, we moved to Nigeria from the UK. Dad wanted us to attend school in Nigeria. We lived in a small town called Idah on the eastern bank of the River Niger in the middle belt region of Nigeria.

My father had unwritten rules. We were not allowed to study in the north. We were not allowed to marry anybody from the north and he gave us strict instructions to marry from Mbaise in the southeast of Nigeria. Needless to say, that was the one time I disobeyed him because I eventually married a Yoruban man from the west of Nigeria.

The furthest we ever got to the north was a town called Jos and I think we drove through Abuja once. As far as my father was concerned, northern Nigeria was a no-go area. He was living in the shadow of Biafra and when we think about the way so many Biafrans were killed in the north before the war and what is happening today with Boko Haram, I can understand why he felt so strongly about this.

Some years after his death I remember rebuking a cousin of mine when I heard that she had moved to northern Nigeria. That fear and the shadow were very much alive for me even though I was living in London. These shadows became part of our day-to-day lives, affecting our choices and decisions.

As an adult I can see more deeply how the dream of Biafra has shaped who I am. I am a priest, but I am also a community activist. My thirst for justice and the need for a better world was nurtured by my father and his dream of Biafra.

During the war, my father was away campaigning and trying to raise money for an organisation called The Friends of Biafra. His dream was so powerful and the needs of Biafra so urgent that he simply had to leave his family at this crucial time and respond. My youngest sister was born then, but Biafra had to come first.

His thirst for justice and his activism shaped my own thirst for these things. At eight, I was raising money to buy presents for elderly people in a nearby home. At 10 I was joining sponsored sleep outs for Amnesty International. At 12 I was writing about Steve Biko. The dream of my father continues to shape and influence me in my contemporary social justice activities.

Biafra is part of who I am. It is part of my family heritage. I remember the stories about the war where my relatives fled from town to town to avoid the approaching Nigerian soldiers. I remember the stories of what they did to survive.

I had a cousin who went by the name of Surpriser. His real name was Goddy and he fought in the Biafran army. During the war he hid the family’s valuables and property by digging a deep hole somewhere on family land. After the war he recovered everything and from that time onwards he was known as “Surpriser”.

As a teenager, I always thought he was rather odd and often under the influence of something but I think the fighting affected him in more ways than we ever fully understood. I wish he was still alive so that I could speak to him and ask him what happened. As an adult as I look back over my life I can see how Biafra has shaped my life in both dreams and shadows. And I know that many of us in the Biafran diaspora have similar stories and experiences.

It is now 50 years after the end of the war and I think it is right for us to remember, because in doing so we honour our ancestors. We honour those who died during the war often from starvation, and we honour those who fought for Biafra.

I think that there is still the need for answers and dialogue about the war. I think it is a shame that Nigeria has never seen the need to have such dialogue or some kind of public acknowledgement or remembrance of the war. These dreams and shadows will never disappear. They need to be embraced and they need to be acknowledged because these dreams and shadows abound today.

The people waving the Biafran flag today in protest are mostly people who were young children during the war and some were not even born at that time. They wave the Biafran flag because the dreams and shadows of Biafra are as strong today as they were when my father had them. These dreams and shadows affect Nigeria today; the shadows will never disappear and the dreams will never die. The Nigerian government needs to realise that silence is not an answer to the truth.

There is a passage in the Bible where God asks Cain “Where is your brother Abel?” Cain tries to rebuff God, but God says: “Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.” The blood that was shed for Biafra is perhaps part of the reason why these dreams and shadows still exist. It is important for us to remember Biafra but it is also important for Nigeria to remember Biafra and for the United Kingdom to remember the part it played in the cruel devastation of the Biafran people.

As for me and people like me, we will continue to remember, especially through stories and plays, films and drama, dialogue and reflection and through the activism for Biafra that still continues today. Let us continue to remember. Let us continue to dream. Igbo Kwenu! Biafra Kwenu!

BIAFRA NEWS : Nnamdi Kanu can’t be sacrificed – IPOB cautions Justice Nyako against jailing its leader

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday warned that its leader Nnamdi Kanu cannot be sacrificed to save corrupt politicians.

It cautioned Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court against jailing Kanu.

The group also charged Nyako to step down from Kanu’s trial, alleging that she had been compromised.

In a statement by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB urged Western countries and human rights organisations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Inter-Society organisation and other reputable human rights organisations to prevail over the Nigerian Government, President Bola Tinubu, and Justice Nyako to save the country’s judicial system by releasing Kanu.

The statement reads: “The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the indomitable and charismatic leader Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu reiterate our demand that Justice Binta Nyako step down from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case. Justice Binta Nyako is already compromised because the Federal Government of Nigeria is pointing a gun on her head to jail Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in order to free her husband and son from their EFCC case.

“IPOB will never allow the Federal Government to use our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as bait to entice Justice Binta Nyako to carry out their ugly agenda. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu cannot be sacrificed to save the corrupt and treasury looters, Nyako Father and Son team.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has not committed any offence known to law. His only offence is that he is championing Biafra’s self-determination movement. If Justice Binta Nyako succumbs to the Fulani government’s pressure and jails Mazi Nnamdi, she will still be eliminated by the same government to cover it up so that it can not be traced back to them.

“Therefore, Justice Binta Nyako will save her life and that of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by stepping down from the case. BINTA NYAKO must understand that Mazi Nnamdi KANU belongs to every South Easterner and they don’t want to see anything ugly happen to him. The calamity that will befall the country will be better imagined. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and BINTA Nyako must save their country by releasing Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu.

“The Buhari Government and the former Attorney General, Abubakar Malami used Justice Binta Nyako to keep Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case ongoing perpetually. Also, the current government of Bola Ahamed Tinubu and his AGF Lateef Fagbemi has continued blackmailing Justice Binta Nyako with her husband and son’s cases at EFCC.

“Justice Binta Nyako is under gunpoint to either jail Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu or her husband and son will be jailed by EFCC. Justice Binta Nyako is at a crossroads as to jail an innocent man or allow her husband and son to go to jail. Justice Binta Nyako is human and will certainly do anything to save her husband and son from serving a prolonged jail sentence. IPOB understands the precarious situation Justice Binta Nyako has found herself in. That is why we demand that she steps down from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

“IPOB is calling Binta Nyako to step down from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case. She should avoid plunging Nigeria into an unimaginable crisis. Binta Nyako must redeem herself from this case or posterity will never be kind to her and her generation. Justice Nyako should save herself from the mess that her husband has put her in by stepping down.

“Justice Binta Nyako is not the only High Court Judge in Nigeria. But she is the preferred judge to the Nigerian government because they are using her husband’s and son’s pending fraud case with EFCC to blackmail her into submission and to do the will of the Government. Justice Binta Nyako’s hands are tied and cannot deliver justice for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB.

“Biafrans both home and the diaspora demand that Justice Binta Nyako step down from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case without delay. She will not deliver a fair judgment because she is under uncontrollable pressure from the Federal Government of Nigeria to jail an innocent man to save her husband and son from EFCC. Intimidating Justice Binta Nyako, a wife and mother to choose between saving her child and husband from imprisonment for unproven fraud or to continue the illegal detention and jailing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is pure evil. IPOB will not allow our leader to be sacrificed for the sins of the Nyakos and that is why we repeat our demand that Justice Binta Nyako step down without further delays.”

The detained IPOB leader at the resumption of his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja, had through his lawyers, gave three conditions for prosecution to meet for the continuation of his trial.

Kanu, through his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, among others demanded that the bail granted him earlier be restored to enable him prepare for his defense.

He claimed that the bail was erroneously revoked based on a false and fraudulent claim of the Federal Government.

Kanu also requested setting aside of the arrest warrant issued against him based on allegations by government that he had jumped bail and escaped out of the country.

He also demanded that his lawyer must be permitted to have unhindered access to him as required by law.

The Biafra agitator said that he would be willing to face accelerated trial once the conditions are met.

However, the Federal Government, through its counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, asked the court to reject the conditions on the ground that they are frivolous, vexatious, irritating and baseless.

The senior lawyer said that the court had earlier rejected the bail application and as such, the court cannot over rule itself.

Awomolo argued that the only option open to Kanu is to go to the Court of Appeal to challenge the rejected bail request.

BIAFRA NEWS : African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement

African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement

Trustees, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, described the alleged endorsements as fraudulent, void and of no effect.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement of other political parties and their candidates for 2023 by a faction of the party.

Earlier, there was a report that ADC has endorsed the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, for the Saturday's presidential election. The purported endorsement was held at the River Plate Gardens in Abuja on Monday morning.

The coalition, which is made up of several star alliance partners such as Nigeria Mothers for Good Governance, Fulani United, and League of Imams, among others, said they seek to create a formidable force for the Obi/Datti ticket.

The event was attended by prominent figures such as the ADC National Chairman, Chief Raphael Nwosu, BoT Chairman,Dr Mani Ibrahim Ahmed and Prof Pat Utomi.

However, a statement by ADC's Chairman, Board of Trustees, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, described the alleged endorsements as fraudulent, void and of no effect, adding that the endorsement was being carried by a faction of the party not known to law for pecuniary gains.

It blamed a faction of the party, led by its immediate past National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu for the anti-party activity.

According to the party, Nwosu’s faction has allegedly divided itself into three groups which are now illegally engaged in endorsing parties like the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) for 2023 general elections all in a bid to make quick money.

Akwashiki warned those involved in the act to desist, noting that if not they would face the full wrath of the law.

According to the statement, its presidential candidate for 2023, Dumebi Kachikwu, had “long warned about criminals in ADC who sell the party to the bigger parties.

“They have divided themselves into three groups and collected money from APC, PDP and Labour. One party, three endorsements within the space of four days. Shameful.”

The statement further stated party under the interim leadership of Senator Akwashiki, described those who carried the endorsements as “impostors” and “impersonators” who were no longer members of ADC.

"Therefore, their endorsement has nothing to do with the authentic ADC recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“We are appalled that renegades who are no longer known to the ADC can constitute themselves into a criminal gang to perpetuate illegalities all in the name of making quick money.

“This condemnable action will not stop our party or its presidential candidate from running the race to the very end.

“We are determined to ensure that the bright chances of all ADC candidates in the forthcoming general elections are not sold or mortgaged as was the practice in the past.

“The arm of the law will soon catch up with all those responsible for these criminal and shameful activities," the statement partly read.

BIAFRA NEWS : We Will Not Extend February 10 Deadline – Central Bank Governor, Emefiele Dares Nigerians

Emefiele appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience noting that the gains of the policy outweigh the initial challenges.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it is not considering deadline extension for the phasing out of the old Naira notes after the 10-day grace recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigerians, including governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have asked the apex bank for an extension owing to the scarcity of the redesigned Naira notes.

Speaking at a briefing in Lagos State, the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience noting that the gains of the policy outweighed the initial challenges, Daily Trust reports.

“I want to say unfortunately again, this time, we will not be looking at extension of deadline because we are the Central Bank and the deposit money banks are doing everything to address the challenges,” he said.

He also said the redesigned naira policy was not targeted at anyone, re-emphasising that the policy is aimed at economic benefits.

He also appealed to Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used to truncate the policy.

“We are doing our work. We are bankers. Those holding protest should not allow themselves to be used,” he said.

He begged Nigerians to show understanding and accept to join queue at the banks.

President Muhammadu Buhari had asked Nigerians to give him seven days to take a major decision on the naira redesign policy.

He said this after APC governors met with him at Aso Rock earlier in the day.

BIAFRA NEWS : Biafra Nations League wants AG to withdraw appeal against release of Nnamdi Kanu

The Biafra Nations League (BnL) has called on the Attorney General of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami to withdraw the appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court ordering the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the agitation for Biafra’s sovereignty.

They made the call in a statement released on Saturday morning and signed by the deputy

Deputy Leader of BnL, Ebuta Takon.

They warned the federal government against the continuous detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

This is coming weeks after a militant group suspected to be BnL affiliate attacked and abducted three oil workers in the Bakassi Peninsula.

They warned that the government should no longer undermine their influence in the Gulf of Guinea, claiming that they have large loyalists in the region.

BIAFRA NEWS : Gunmen hide under Biafra agitation to kill in South-east – Army

The Nigerian army says the gunmen terrorising residents of the South-east hide under the cloak of Biafra agitation to commit crimes in the region.

The new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Umar Musa, stated this on Friday when he visited Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State at the Government House, Awka.

This was contained in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Christian Aburime.

Mr Musa, a major-general, took over from Taoreed Lagbaja, also a major-general, who is now the GOC, 1 Mechanised Division, Kaduna.

The new 82 Division GOC whose division superintends over Mr Soludo’s Anambra, visited to inform the governor of his assumption of duty.

Mr Musa, recently, has also visited Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Hope Uzodinma of Abia and Imo States respectively.

The GOC will work with the state governors in the South-east which is under the division on security. This explains his recent visits to the governors in the region.

He commended Mr Soludo for his assistance to the security agencies in their battle against gunmen operating in the state.

The GOC said the army was aware of the security situation in the South-east and promised to partner with the governor and other governors in the region to fight the situatio

BIAFRA NEWS : Queen Elizabeth backed Nigeria during Biafran War –Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Saturday said the United Kingdom under the late Queen Elizabeth stood by Nigeria during torrid times.

He said the UK during the Civil War between 1967 and 1970 supported the unity of Nigeria, adding that the Queen visited the country twice before her demise.

The President spoke during a condolence visit to the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, at her residence in Abuja on Saturday. He was represented by the Secretary to the Government to the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

Buhari said, “We have maintained very close ties with the monarchy. She was a very gracious and elegant queen.  For the purposes of remembrance, the fact is that 90 per cent of Nigerians do not know any monarch in the UK other than the queen. We welcome the new king and we look forward to a strong working relationship with the UK.

“They have been a very strong ally even in the midst of our difficult time during the Biafran war; they stood for the indivisibility of the Nigerian state, supported and ensured that we overcame that problem.

We are partnering to deal with the insurgency so that it doesn’t overwhelm us. They have always stood as a very strong ally.”

Buhari added, “The head of the commonwealth to which we belong. Not only that, she was the head of state for three years from 1960 to 1963 and when we became a republic she ceased to be. We have had very close ties with the queen. She visited the country twice; first in 1953 when she spent about 20 days visiting different towns, and the second one was in 2003 during president Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure.”

Laing had said on Friday that a condolence book would be opened at the High Commission Office in the Central Business District area of Abuja from September 12 to 16 and on 19th from 11am to 3pm daily.

Charles had emerged as the king following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, but Saturday’s event confirmed his ascendancy to the throne. The Queen died peacefully on Thursday at her Balmoral Estate in Scotland.

The Washington Post reported that the Accession Council convened on Saturday for what was considered “a constitutional formality to recognise Charles’ sovereignty”.

He read and signed an oath to uphold the security of the Church in Scotland, where there is a separation of powers between the Church and State. He later signed copies of the declaration, with his wife, Queen Consort Camilla; son, Prince William; and Prime Minister, Liz Truss, also signing the declaration as witnesses.

Normal parliamentary business has been suspended during a period of mourning for the queen. The House of Commons is holding a rare Saturday session so that lawmakers could pay tribute to the late monarch, according to the New York Times.

Elizabeth for burial

The late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral is scheduled for Monday, September 19, according to New York Times. The event, which would hold in Westminster Abbey, is expected to be attended by world leaders.

The remains of the late monarch are expected to lie in state for four days and mourners would be able to pay their respect. On Sunday (today), the Queen’s coffin would be taken from Balmoral to Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh ahead of the state funeral.

On Monday, the Queen’s coffin would be moved by procession to St Giles’ Cathedral, accompanied by the King and members of the royal family. Currently, the coffin is covered with the Royal Standard, with a wreath of flowers placed on top.

PM pays allegiance

Prime Minister Truss and senior members of her government have also taken oaths of loyalty to King Charles III in the House of Commons.

House of Commons Speaker, Lindsay Hoyle, was the first to pledge he would “bear true allegiance to his Majesty King Charles, his heirs and successors,” followed by the longest-serving lawmakers and the prime minister.

Charles proclaimed king

King Charles III was on Saturday afternoon proclaimed as the king, Sunday PUNCH reports. The event held at St. James’ Palace, which is the most senior royal palace in the United Kingdom. The event was steeped in ancient tradition and political symbolism.

BIAFRA NEWS : Kanu’s release reverberates in France

The directive by the United Nations Working Group on Human Rights and Arbitrary Detention for the Federal Government to unconditionally release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, reverberated at Corsica Libera Conference.

IPOB joined other emerging nations from across the world to attend the conference held recently in the France Island region.

Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, who disclosed this at the weekend in a statement, said that IPOB by attending the conference has again accomplished another precious milestone in its unceasing work to extricate the land of Biafra from bondage.

He claimed that “IPOB has placed Biafra for the first time in its history in the minds of the government and people of Corsica during the just concluded EGhjurnate Internazionale Conference which hosted IPOB delegation representing Biafra, a country of about 70 million people currently ruled by Nigeria.”

He also disclosed that IPOB is currently conducting an international information campaign tailored towards demanding the release of its leader, Kanu.

“The IPOB delegation brought to the fore the plight of the Indigenous People of Biafran who are being massacred daily in their numbers by the Nigerian government’s security forces on the one hand and the Islamic terrorist and jihadist groups like Boko Haram, ISWAP, Ansaru and Fulani herdsmen and Fulani bandits.

“Mazi Chika Edoziem, IPOB head of directorate of state of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, addressed the emerging nations on behalf of the IPOB movement worldwide. It is very important for every Biafran to know that one of the major aganda of the IPOB delegation to the E Ghjurnate Internazionale is to secure the support of all the delegates to this Conference for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,” he said.

According to him, delegates from emerging nations that attended the conference included those from the host country Corsica, Catlunya, Scotland, Tahiti, Sardigna, The Basque, Kabylie, Guyana, New Caledonia, as well as the Artsakh Republic, among others.

BIAFRA NEWS : Biafra prisoners in secret deal to release Nnamdi Kanu – Ohanaeze to Buhari govt

Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide has alleged that an ongoing secret negotiation between Igbo politicians, leaders and the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu should also include other Igbo youths detained in various prisons across the South South and South East.

Ohanaeze, in a statement signed by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, its Secretary General, warned against segregation in what it described as classified negotiations between a few Igbo politicians, elder statesmen and the Federal Government for the release of the IPOB leader and other top Biafra agitators.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation said it has it in good authority that not more than 983 Biafran detainees are incarcerated in various correctional facilities across the seven Igbo speaking states.

According to Ohanaeze, over 182 Igbo prisoners of conscience, mainly youths and women, are languishing in Port Harcourt Maximum Corrections Center on awaiting trial over related cases of Biafra agitation between 2016 and 2021.

The group said that whatever Kanu stands to benefit must be extended to others whose crimes were only wearing of Biafra costumes and identity cards, “no matter what, this is the first time we are speaking for their behalf, and they deserve pardon like Nnamdi Kanu.”

“The Federal Government should ensure that the Igbo secret negotiation team who are ready to help FG have a secret peace deal with Nnamdi Kanu must include these Biafran detainees in any decision to be reached,” the group said.

“FG should use the government’s instruments to secure the release of all the Biafran detainees in various Corrections facilities at Port Harcourt, Asaba, Owerri, Awka, Enugu, umuahia, Onitsha, Abakiliki and Aba for peace to restored.”

“The Federal Government should demand the comprehensive lists of all Biafran detainees and join it in the ongoing peace deal with Nnamdi Kanu’s team,” the statement added.

BLOGGERS : How to Keep Your Blog Running While You’re Away

 Blogger Having Google Indexing Issues

Hey, we all have to escape sometimes, right? Whether during the Holidays or for a much-needed vacation you can’t be tied to your blog 24/7 nor should you be. The reality though, is that blogging can be a totally time-consuming process. Consistency is one of the most important factors to blogging

success. Once your blog is established and especially if you outsource some help, it gets a bit easier, but for newbie bloggers and website owners the thought of going away on holiday and leaving your baby blog unattended can put you in downright panic mode! Here’s great tips on how to keep your blog running smoothly while away or over the holidays.

Let’s face it, we all have holidays, events, family members, and other things to tend to. Life, after all should not be just about working, blogging, posting and constantly coming up with new content.

Currently, I maintain approximately 6 blog posts per month. In the beginning I was churning out 4 a week!

This level of consistency is super important and helps maintain for me a steady level of traffic.

When you decide to have a blog, remember, it’s operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

After all, your blog is your business and it should be treated as such.

So even though it’s producing passive income (and that’s the ultimate goal for you) it still needs tending to in many, many ways.

In this post, I will go over what you can do to ensure your blog stays fully functional and continues to produce tip top content for your readers along with income for you!

Tips to Keep Your Blog Running Smoothly Over the Holidays

Tip #1. Batch Your Content

Blogging requires laser focus and excellent planning.

Therefore, batching your content is the best way to ensure that your blog will have new fresh content for your readers.

You as a blogger are a master planner. Yes! Believe it!

Heck planning a well-deserved trip or vacation on top of all that is just a walk in the park!

Once you’ve booked that trip or flight it’s time to start generating content for the duration of your trip so you ‘set it and forget it’!

Here’s an example – I dedicate my Tuesdays and Thursdays for actual writing so instead of producing 2 content posts per day. I would use those 2 days to produce a week’s worth of content.

Nowadays I’m so busy with other aspects of running my blog I often outsource some content as well which frees up even more time and keeps me sane!

Tip #2. Use The WordPress Timestamp Feature

The WordPress Timestamp feature can save you a lot of time when it comes to creating and publishing your posts.

Let’s say that you have a day where you are feeling super inspired about several topics, you are full of energy and you have some great ideas just spilling over that you’re dying to share!

You have written 3 or 4 posts, but you would like to spread them out because you are getting ready to go on vacation, or have that looming deadline for a project at work that you must complete.

Using the Timestamp feature will help you to spread your posts out over a few days and publish them for you.

Here’s how it works.

  1. Take a post that you have written and are ready to publish, including proper tagging, images, etc.
  2. Go to the “Post Timestamp” on your post page and expand it.
  3. Select the “Edit timestamp” by clicking on it, there should now be a check mark in the box.
  4. Edit and select the date and time that you want your post published.

Now there is one important step left in editing your post for future publication.

You now need to click on the “Publish” button.

If you don’t do this and just click on “Save”, it will save your post as a draft and not publish it when you have specified.

This feature has saved me a ton of time and aggravation trying to write posts when I have an endless list of other things to do.

And as bloggers you know that list is endless!

Tip #3. Blog On Your Holiday

I don’t like to blog on my vacation or during the holidays because it defeats the whole purpose of a vacation and spending time with family and friends.

But I must be honest, I’m always surmising what I’m going to be writing about next and taking little notes as I go about the day…. and that’s okay.

As long as it’s not completely consuming you and taking you away from everything and those, you’re closest to.

If you do find though that you realize you’ve made an error that you absolutely must fix, thanks to modern technology, as long as you have a laptop or a smart phone with internet, you’ll be able fix it from anywhere!

Some of my best blog posts have been written on the fly!

Sometimes the change of scenery is just what you need to get those creative juices flowing!

It also allows you to experience the laptop lifestyle experience.

You see, a blog is designed for you to share information, but let’s not forget one important element.

A blog is designed to help you and your readers connect and engage.

So why not share your vacation with your readers?

By sharing a bit of your personal life, it helps build your blog’s relationship with your readers.

Share your images, your meals, your adventures. Some amazing travel and food blogs were built this way.

Tip #4. Outsource For Writers

If you absolutely cannot write please make sure that you get someone hired to cover your writing for you.

Yes, it’s going to cost you some, but the price will be worth it to not lose your audience!

Always look at the bigger picture.

Sure it will cost you some money to hire someone, but you can potentially lose thousands of readers if you don’t.

And after all the work you’ve put into your blog you don’t want that to happen!

Have some valuable content built up for sharing on topics that you’ve chosen that you know your readers will enjoy or find super helpful?

Tip #5. Allow Guest Posts

It’s not a bad idea to line up some guest posts for your blog.

Similar to outsourcing for writers, someone else will be doing the writing for you. The only difference between a guest post and outsourcing is the cost.

Guest posts are typically free.

Guest bloggers will write an article for you and in turn get a backlink which leads to traffic back to their own website. It’s a win-win for both bloggers and something you want to incorporate even when you’re not on vacation!

Food For Thought

It’s your blog and you can do whatever you want with it.

Some obsess over every aspect of control over it and some are way more relaxed. I tend to be the former:/…but I’m still learning that I cannot have 100% control at all times!

I do recommend you ensure your blog stays operational even though you’re not available.

Unless you’re at the stage where your blog runs on auto pilot or you have a team of virtual assistants working with you to handle things it only makes sense.

It’s not so hard to do living in the digital age we’re in. And the best thing is you can do it from virtually anywhere!

Remember, life/work balance is very important too.

The last thing you want to get is blogger ‘burn-out’.

You can still manage to make time to enjoy that holiday or vacay and be a successful blogger!
