BIAFRA NEWS : IPOB leader, Ekpa to be part of Ohanaeze peace summit

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, on Thursday, said that the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, and another controversial leader of IPOB, Simon Ekpa, would be present at the peace summit of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders council, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri.

The elder statesman said the Ohanaeze would appeal to the Federal government to release Kanu to them for the peace summit, while an invitation would be extended to Simon Ekpa, said to be residing in Finland to come back home to join in the peace summit.

“We are going to appeal to the federal government to release Nnamdi Kanu to participate in the peace summit. and we will invite Simon Ekpa, to be part of the peace summit. We are calling on those groups issuing sit-at-home orders against the election to withdraw them. We are assuring them that their grievances will be resolved. We are calling for a ceasefire. They should come to the peace summit and we will resolve all their problems,” Iwuanyanwu pleaded.

The elders of Ohanaeze said the meeting was to achieve peace in Igboland, stop the killings, as well as have the 2023 elections to be held peacefully across the region.

According to Ohanaeze, “In the past few months, I have watched with deep grief the amount of innocent blood being shed in Southeast and other parts of Nigeria. properties belonging to governments and individuals have been unwantedly destroyed. This situation has caused me considerable pain and concern. After many sweet nights, I decided to take the liberty of my position as the chairman of, the elder council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to call an emergency meeting of the Ohanaeze council of elders.

“At the meeting, the security situation of the southeast was very critically examined. Elders expressed concern over the deteriorating security and social and economic conditions in the zone. many school leavers including graduates spend so many years looking for employment without success. Many businesses have collapsed due to a lack of infrastructure such as power. The elders resolved that the solution to this problem does not lie in bloodshed.

“For the first time in our history, we witnessed Igbos killing innocent Igbos for no just cause. When we recall that Igbos lost over two million people during the civil war I see no reason why we should shed more blood in Igboland. I plead with our people to allow peace to reign by ensuring that the elections in the Southeast are peaceful.”

“The elders believe that the solution to this is not by killing or bloodshed but in peaceful discussions and negotiations. The elders therefore unanimously resolved to hold a peace summit. The peace summit will allow the youths to air their grievances and I promise on behalf of the council of elders to resolve the opportunity to air their lives grievances and I promise on behalf of the council of elders to resolve the problems to the best of my ability.

BIAFRA NEWS : FAKE NEWS ALERT, Viral letter from Finnish PM threatening to arrest Simon Ekpa, IPOB disciple, is false

A viral letter on social media claims that the Finnish government has threatened to arrest Simon Ekpa, a self-acclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Recently, videos emerged on Facebook of Ekpa pronouncing a sit-at-home order in the eastern states of the country from February 23 to 28.

Peace mediation? Finland is an active host to a Terrorist who has been directing attacks in South East Nigeria and issuing instruction to restrict the rights of citizens to free movement.

“On the 23rd day of February 2023, there will be a sit-at-home. On the 24th day of February 2023, there will be a lockdown in the entire Biafra territory. On the 25th day of February 2023, Biafra land will be under lock and key. On the 26th of February 2023, Biafra land will be sealed and will be under the lock of key, there will be no movement of chicken. On the 27th of February 2023, Biafra land will be under total lock and key. On the 28th of February 2023, Biafra land will be under lock and key,” Ekpa said in a broadcast.

“I want Biafrans to understand that these particular dates and days are still subject to review, review in the sense that the sit at home may be called off at any point in time. In addition to the affirmation dates, there will be an imposition of curfew on two of those days – on the 24th and 25th of February 2023. In addition to the sit-at-home, there will be a six-to-six curfew.

The tweet had 98.8k views, 510 likes and 176 retweets.

Some news sites also published reports alleging that the letter came from the Finnish government.

“Finland’s prosecutor General Raija Toiviainen is not the lady to mess around with. Simon Ekpa you are in serious trouble, you can ask the US government,” said another Twitter user.

But did the Finnish government author the viral letter?

In a statement sent to TheCable, Ima Edem, media officer to the Finnish government, said the letter was not from the country.

“The letter purporting to be signed by the Prime Minister of Finland and currently circulating widely in the media does not originate from the Finnish government,” she said.

“We have reported the Twitter message, with which this fake letter was originally distributed, and asked Twitter to remove it.”

The viral letter threatening Ekpa with arrest and charges of international terrorism is not from the Finnish government.

“Simon Ekpa is on his way to Nigerian Prison. The Finnish authorities are after him. He’s now under global surveillance I tell you this & is a promise: There is no enemy of this country that will ever succeed. The worst fruitless struggle is that which is targeted against Nigeria,” he tweeted.

The presidential and national assembly elections are slated to hold on February 25.

A few days after the video emerged on social media, a letter purportedly from the Finnish government surfaced on social media, warning the IPOB spokesperson to withdraw the sit-at-home order.

The letter allegedly signed by Sanna Marin, Finnish prime minister, and dated February 15 2023, claimed that Ekpa would be arrested and charged with international terrorism if the order is not reversed within 48 hours.

“There will be an imposition of curfew on all federal roads in the following areas: all federal roads leading to Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo state.

“I want Biafrans to understand that on these days mentioned, it will be an open war between Biafra and Nigeria because we are fighting to protect our life, our property, our villages, our cultures and values. So, anybody who the Nigerian government send to come and fight Biafra, we will engage you.”

BIAFRA NEWS : After Troops Destroyed IPOB Shrines, Simon Ekpa Threatens 2023 Elections in Igboland

Days after the Nigerian Armed Forces launched a massive attack on and destroyed the shrines of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), a factional leader of the  group, Simon Ekpa, has reiterated his threat to frustrate and stop the smooth conduct of the 2023 general elections in Igboland.

Troops in joint operations have in recent weeks sustained a massive onslaught on the terrorists and destroyed their strongholds across the southeast.

The Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami, in a recent briefing confirmed that in one of the operations, after a gun duel, the military destroyed IPOB shrines as well as posters with the inscription “No Election. Ekpa, who operates from Finland, threatened to impose a curfew and ban election in 31 ‘Biafra Provinces.’

The IPOB ‘publicist’ in the video broadcast said that the curfew would be implemented at all federal roads leading to Okigwe, Owerri, Orlu, Abakaliki and Enugu metropolis, prior, during and after the presidential election, billed for February 25.

Ekpa, in the 8-minute TikTok video, threatened that IPOB ‘militia’ will not allow the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to smoothly conduct the presidential election in the South East.

He threatened that there would not be elections in Enugu, Aba, Owerri, Orlu, Awka, Auchi, Benin, Warri, Asaba, Umuahia, Okigwe, Onitsha and across the entire 31 ‘provinces’ of ‘Biafraland.’

Ekpa, in the video clip, further said: “On the 23rd of February 2023, there will be a sit-at-home. On the 24th of February, there will be a lockdown in the entire Biafra territory. On the 25th of February, Biafraland will be under lock and key.

“On the 26th of February, Biafraland will be sealed and under lock and key. The same thing will happen on the 27th and 28th of February too. The particular dates are however subjects to review, as they can be called off at any time.”

Meanwhile, an intelligence source told  that Simon Ekpa is a deranged person who deployed his social media platforms for extortions.

The top security source, who pleaded anonymity, said major security measures have been taken to ensure hitch-free elections in 2023.

“That chap, Simon Ekpa is a deranged person who just boasts in an attempt to defraud people in the name of the Biafra Liberation Movement. He will soon meet the same fate that befalls his boss, Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently in detention.

“The current security strategies put in place have helped in the arrest of some suspects and eliminated notorious terrorists during confrontations with the security operatives.

“While the police are the lead agency in the electoral matters, other services including military, paramilitary, response and intelligence agencies are providing the required support to ensure free, fair election in secured environments throughout the federation,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mohammed Babagana Monguno, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Lucky Irabor and the inspector-general of police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, have also assured Nigerians of safe and rancour-free elections.

reports that the trio made their commitment this week during a visit by the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to the NSA.

Monguno said although there were issues confronting the polity, he, however, said agitations geared towards the conduct of 2023 should be dispelled as the election will go on without any rancour.

He said the security outfits have put in place measures to ensure that Nigerians exercise their franchise without fear.

“We have done a lot to put things in place. We have had meetings with INEC, Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Elections Security (ICCES) which I chair. I know what we have put on the ground.

“All of us here who are the managers of securing the process know our responsibilities and we are not in any doubt,” he said.

He also dispelled illusions by agents of fake news and misinformation that the elections would not hold.

“Every Nigerian that will go out to exercise their franchise will do that in a secure atmosphere.

“I have confidence in the security architecture as well as intelligent reports from them and they have assured us. The remaining 17 days before the elections will be an intense period for us and I know that all security agencies are equal to the task,” he added.

Also, Irabor said the armed forces have been monitoring the electioneering process and polity closely.

Irabor assured that the Armed Forces will support the police as the lead agency handling the electioneering process.

He pledged the commitment of the Armed Forces to ensuring security during the polls.

More so, IGP Alkali Baba, while admitting to the issues of crime and criminality in certain states of the federation, said it will work hard to tame all the people behind the violent agitation.

On his part, the INEC chairman lauded the NSA for convening the high-level security meeting.

He said with just 17 days to the 2023 elections, the meeting is coming at a critical moment.

“We welcome the assurances by the NSA and the Chief of Defence Staff/Inspector General of Police that the security and intelligence agencies are prepared for the election to proceed as scheduled.”

For the commission, he said preparation for the election has gone far.

Yakubu said most of the sensitive and non-sensitive materials are already in various locations nationwide.

BIAFRA NEWS : British envoy sabotaging efforts to release Nnamdi Kanu – US lawyer, Bruce Fein

Bruce Fein, a United States, US, based lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has accused the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, of personally sabotaging efforts to release the Biafra agitator.

Fein accused Laing of conniving with the Nigerian Government to detain Kanu perpetually.

He accused the British envoy of complicity and complacency over Kanu’s ordeals, alleging that the High Commissioner is personally sabotaging efforts to release Kanu.

Fein disclosed this in a letter to the British envoy dated February 10, 2023 and was forwarded to DAILY POST by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor.

The US lawyer who accused Laing of personally sabotaging efforts to get Kanu out of illegal detention sought to know the motive behind her silence over the ordeals of Kanu, who is a British citizen.

Fein expressed shock that despite the Opinion of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, Nigeria should release Kanu unconditionally.

The letter reads: “On July 20, 2022, the United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention issued a unanimous opinion addressing United Kingdom citizen Nnamdi Kanu’s kidnapping, torture, extraordinary rendition, and protracted detention without trial by Nigeria acting in collusion with Kenya. Among other things, the Working Group Opinion called upon Nigeria “to take urgent action to ensure the immediate unconditional release of Mr Kanu.

“Evidence has surfaced that you personally are sabotaging Mr Kanu’s unconditional release as mandated under jus cogens norms of international law binding on all nations irrespective of

consent. You have taken cynicism and hypocrisy to a new level.

“Your Government has taken extreme umbrage at Russian President Vladimir Putin’s violation of international law in attacking Ukraine and committing war crimes. But you have made the UK complicit in flouting international law like Mr Putin by affirmatively encouraging the government of Nigeria to continue its illegal detention of Kanu.

“You and your country plunged to new depths. You go to war over the Falkland Islands thousands of miles from English shores with a tiny population of 3,500 to keep them free from Argentinian misgovernment. But Nnamdi Kanu, a British citizen, is abandoned to the cruel, lawless dungeon of Nigeria’s DSS.”

Fein had also earlier this year, written to President Muhammadu Buhari, reminding him of the dire consequences of keeping Kanu in illegal detention against UN Opinion and various court orders authorizing his immediate and unconditional release.

BIAFRA NEWS : Court grants Kanu’s request for medical care

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, the permission to apply for an order of mandamus to compel the Department of State Service to allow him to have unfettered access to medical care.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/ 2341/2022, Kanu through his legal team led by Mike Ozekhome and Ifeanyi Ejiofor said he needed an independent medical examination to ascertain his health condition.

After hearing an ex-parte application filed by the IPOB leader, Justice Binta Nyako, directed Kanu’s legal team to serve all the relevant processes on both the DSS and its Director General, who were cited as 1st and 2nd Respondents in the matter.

The IPOB leader said he would require from the DSS his admission records, medical and clinical notes, nursing notes, observation charts and documentation during treatment or stay-in-hospital, laboratory test results, pharmaceutical records, radiological scans, images and reports, blood transfusion records, physiotherapy and rehabilitative treatment records, clinical findings, as well as diagnosis and treatment prescribed records.

He pointed out that on October 21, 2021, Justice Nyako had ordered that he should be allowed access to three persons of his choice, including his medical doctors.

Specifically, he is praying to the court for an order, granting him leave to, “apply for judicial review in the form of an order of Mandamus, compelling the Respondents to allow the Applicant unhindered access to his medical doctors to enable them to conduct an independent examination of his present deteriorating health condition, as earlier ordered by the Federal High Court, Abuja, Coram, Hon. Justice B.F.M. Nyako, on the 21st day of October 2021; and as required by the express provisions of section 7 of the Anti-Torture Act, 2017.

“An order of this Honourable Court granting leave to the Applicant to apply for judicial review in the form of an order of Mandamus, compelling the Respondents to avail the Applicant with all his medical records, from the 29th day of June 2021, till date.

Contending that section 7 of the Anti-Torture Act, 2017, provided that a person arrested, detained or undergoing, custodial investigation, shall have the right to demand a physical and psychological examination by an independent and competent doctor of his own choice after interrogation, which shall be conducted outside the influence of the Police or security forces.

“The Respondents have repeatedly denied the Applicant access to medical doctors of his choice to independently examine him, contrary to the order of the court made on the 21st October 2021; and the express provisions of Section 7 of the Anti-Torture Act, 2017.”

He also alleged that his health condition has worsened following his ordeal detention where he was subjected to torture, inhuman treatment and degradation and that he suffered a mild cardiac arrest before he was “smuggled back into Nigeria”.

BIAFRA NEWS : We Will Not Extend February 10 Deadline – Central Bank Governor, Emefiele Dares Nigerians

Emefiele appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience noting that the gains of the policy outweigh the initial challenges.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it is not considering deadline extension for the phasing out of the old Naira notes after the 10-day grace recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigerians, including governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have asked the apex bank for an extension owing to the scarcity of the redesigned Naira notes.

Speaking at a briefing in Lagos State, the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience noting that the gains of the policy outweighed the initial challenges, Daily Trust reports.

“I want to say unfortunately again, this time, we will not be looking at extension of deadline because we are the Central Bank and the deposit money banks are doing everything to address the challenges,” he said.

He also said the redesigned naira policy was not targeted at anyone, re-emphasising that the policy is aimed at economic benefits.

He also appealed to Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used to truncate the policy.

“We are doing our work. We are bankers. Those holding protest should not allow themselves to be used,” he said.

He begged Nigerians to show understanding and accept to join queue at the banks.

President Muhammadu Buhari had asked Nigerians to give him seven days to take a major decision on the naira redesign policy.

He said this after APC governors met with him at Aso Rock earlier in the day.

BIAFRA NEWS : IPOB commends residents for defying sit-at-home order

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has commended residents in Southeast for disobeying the five-day sit-at-home order by pro-Biafra group led by Simon Ekpa.

The group expressed happiness that the oppressive order planned by enemies of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB and Biafra has failed and will continue to fail.

In a statement by IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group noted the enforcers of the sit-at-home were totally disappointed by the resoluteness of Biafra people.

The statement reads: “The enemies of Biafra restoration who conceived, planned, and wished to carry out this wicked skim were totally disappointed by the resoluteness of Biafra people. Our men and women went to their places of business and trade without listening to the mad people singing their masters’ song of slavery.

“Our people stood up to them today and said NO MORE! We will no longer serve you. NO MORE! We have one Leader. NO MORE! We follow command and control. And, NO MORE! We shall no longer act cowardly in our own land. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! You can no longer bully us.

“To the extent that markets, officies, and businesses in Biafra Land, from Afikpo, to Igweoch, Onitsha to Owerri, Nnewi to Umuahia, from Ahaba to Okigwe and beyond were open for business today, we raise our hand and duff our hats to you great Biafrans everywhere. We know that it took all of us to defy this order from the pit of hell that was meant for the destruction of Biafra people.”

BIAFRA NEWS : Nigeria Jailed Nnamdi Kanu, Mere Agitator, While Confirmed Terrorist Turji Walks Free, Lawyer Accuses Buhari Government Of Selective Justice

A human rights lawyer and activist, Barrister Malcolm Omirhobo, has berated President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration over the detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Omirhobo accused the government of engaging in selective justice, discrimination, suppression, repression, oppression and subjugation by detaining Kanu, a Biafra Nation agitator while the same government has allowed a confirmed terrorist leader, Bello Turji to live and operate freely in the country.

In a tweet with photos of Turji and Kanu placed side by side, Omirhobo said, “While Bello Turji, a confirmed Terrorist is working free, Nnamdi Kanu, a mere agitator is behind bars in chains.

“This is the height of selective justice, discrimination, suppression, repression, oppression and subjugation.”

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021 after he was re-arrested in Kenya and returned to Nigeria for the continuation of his trial for treasonable felony and terrorism.

Meanwhile, Turji, a terrorist leader who has been declared wanted by Nigerian security agencies, has been operating in Zamfara State and its adjoining states and even attending functions.

Meanwhile, despite the ruling of a three-man panel of judges of the Appeal Court which discharged the IPOB leader, Kanu, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has insisted that Kanu would remain in detention.

So long as Ibos are excluded, the rest of southern Nigeria is not bothered.

That's how and why the foolani seized Nigeria since 1970 and all policies are designed to "punish" the Ibos. Buhari came in 2015 to institutionalize this policy of outright exclusion and annihilation. It seems a bit belated to begin to cry about what buhari has been doing in the past seven and a half years unchallenged.

That's why we regret the demise of someone like Gani. Wole Soyinka is aged and has lost his human rights verve to demand from the system a sense of equity and fairness. Let southerners search their minds and hearts why they turned their attention away from buhari's nepotism and bigotry.

Why worry now that that the terrorist has less than six months to go. We are our own enemies. The consequences of our actions or inaction today await us in the now and the future.

BIAFRA NEWS : Biafra Nations League wants AG to withdraw appeal against release of Nnamdi Kanu

The Biafra Nations League (BnL) has called on the Attorney General of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami to withdraw the appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court ordering the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the agitation for Biafra’s sovereignty.

They warned the federal government against the continuous detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

This is coming weeks after a militant group suspected to be BnL affiliate attacked and abducted three oil workers in the Bakassi Peninsula.

They warned that the government should no longer undermine their influence in the Gulf of Guinea, claiming that they have large loyalists in the region.

BIAFRA NEWS : Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer gives three reasons court suspended IPOB leader’s trial

Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to the decision of the Federal High Court in Abuja to suspend the further trial of its client.

Ejimakor explained that it was impossible for Justice Binta Nyako-led court to continue with Kanu’s trial.

Justice Nyako put off Kanu’s trial sine die due to the pending resolution of the Federal Government’s appeal against the October 13 judgment of the Court of Appeal that discharged him from the terrorism charges.

The Federal Government’s appeal seeking a reversal of the Court of Appeal judgment is pending before the Supreme Court.

Reacting, Ejimakor said the Court of Appeal judgment and that of the Federal High Court in Umuahia made it impossible for Nyako to continue with Kanu’s trial.

In a chat with DAILY POST, the Special Counsel said the pending appeal before the Supreme Court was a barrier to the continuation of the trial.

“My reaction to today’s Federal High Court, Abuja ruling declining further trial of Nnamdi Kanu:

“The ruling today by Justice Binta of Federal High Court Abuja was not unexpected.

“There is absolutely no way she can proceed with the trial of Nnamdi Kanu in view of the jurisdictional barriers created by the judgments of the Court of Appeal and that of the Federal High Court, Umuahia.

“To cap it all, the matter is also pending before the Supreme Court on appeal. No trial court can proceed with any trial that is burdened by these triple factors,” he said.

BIAFRA NEWS : NIGERIA FG resumes Nnamdi Kanu’s trial on terrorism charges November 14

The Federal Government will on Monday, November 14 resume the trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu on terrorism charges brought against him.

The trial will centre only on seven out of 15 count charges sustained against Kanu by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

A member of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor, confirmed that the trial would commence on November 14 having received notice from the court to the effect.

However, DAILY POST gathered that the trial would be vehemently opposed by the leader of the legal team, Chief Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN.

Our correspondent was reliably informed that a motion on notice objecting to the commencement of the trial has already been filed and would take the front stage at the November 14 proceedings.

DAILY POST observed that the objection to the trial was predicated on two grounds which were the judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered in October which voided the rendition of Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria and subsequently quashed the terrorism charges and discharged him from the alleged offences.

The second ground was the appeal against the Court of Appeal decision brought to the Supreme Court by the Federal Government.

Our correspondent noted in the sighted motion on notice that Ozekhome SAN sought for suspension of the trial pending the outcome of the Supreme Court on the issue.

Justice Nyako would however be expected to give ruling one way or the other after taking arguments for and against the motion.

Meanwhile, security arrangements have been put in place to ensure hitch-free proceedings in the courtroom and outside the court premises.

BIAFRA NEWS : Sunday Igboho, Prof Akintoye, enemy of Nnamdi Kanu, Biafra struggle – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has described the Leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua, a group championing self-determination for the Yoruba Nation, Professor Banji Akintoye, as an enemy of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB said Akintoye’s remark that Kanu was a noisemaker was an indication of his hatred for the Biafra agitator.

Akintoye had described the IPOB’s leader as a noisemaker while applauding the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho.

The Professor, had, also denied working with the Biafra nation agitator, Nnamdi Kanu

Reacting, the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, accused Akintoye of working with enemies of Biafra agitation against Kanu.

A statement by Powerful reads partly: “We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of the great liberator and prophet, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU condemn the unguided statement from Prof. Akintoye during his BBC interview where he ignorantly referred to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a noise maker while praising Sunday Igboho.

“It’s unfortunate that this old man, whom our Leader and IPOB hold in high esteem, will stoop so low to speak like a Nigeria-paid agent. Prof Akintoye should understand that KANU is the only man that put fear in the Fulanized Government of Nigeria. For him to refer to our Leader as a noise maker shows the level of hatred he has for our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. If Prof. Akintoye’s boy, Sunday Igboho, and Yoruba agitators are making noise, Nnamdi KANU and IPOB are not. We are in serious business in our quest for the restoration of Biafra.

“The old Professor with Nigeria divide and rule mentally has been working with enemies of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to discredit IPOB’s movement. Paid agent, Akintoye worked with Tony Nnadi on their irrelevant Lower Niger Republic or Congress project or whatever name they called it and woefully failed. Today he has started working with Simon Ekperima and boosting his ego to frustrate IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. They don’t understand that we are resolute and have dismantled all past enemies and obstacles that have stood in our way. We will overcome and dismantle them too, shortly.

“It is all a part of the Fulanized Nigeria government’s plans to find people who will make noise about Biafra while their target is to harm our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi KANU. None of them is looking for freedom but want to hoodwink the public while planning on how to harm IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU. We assure them and their sponsors that they will fail again and again.

“We also wish to remind Koiki Media to keep to their lane in their Oduduwa struggle. As much as we support Oduduwa’s struggle by using our social media platforms to promote them, we do not in any way claim an alliance with them. They should not start any media wars with IPOB, otherwise, our media warriors will take them out of the media space. IPOB freedom movement led by Kanu is a freedom struggle for all the oppressed people in Nigeria but we will not tolerate any form of sabotage from those same people.

“Moreso, we want to state again that IPOB, led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has nothing to do with the so-called Biafra government in Exile. IPOB has never authorized anybody to form Biafra Government in Exile while our Leader is in DSS detention. We have said before, and we wish to say it categorically again, that anybody forming government in Exile is a criminal and any day we catch him or her, their name will be sorry. Sponsors and initiators of Government in Exile are power-drunk people who want to displace Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and destroy the Biafra movement and our struggle for independence. We won’t allow such to happen because we are the last line of defence against the enemies of the Indigenous Peoples in Africa.”

BIAFRA NEWS : NPC begs Biafra agitators not to disrupt 2023 census in S-East

The National Population Commission, NPC, has pleaded with the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and other pro- Biafra groups not to disrupt the 2023 population census in the South East region as  was the case in the 2006 census when the then Movement for the Actualisation for the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, scuttled the exercise in the zone.

NPC Federal Commissioner in charge of Abia State, Chief Jonny Nwabuisi, who made the plea at a press conference yesterday in Umuahia, decried the adverse effect of the MASSOB opposition to census in South East which accounted for the low figures ascribed to states in the zone.

He noted that a successful population census would be in the interest of everybody including those pushing for referendum, arguing that referendum  must be based on population.

His words:”In 2006, it was MASSOB; today it’s IPOB. But I say that it’s in the interest of IPOB to allow the census. If they  talk of referendum ,they cannot do it in a vacuum.

” Referendum is based on population and IPOB has no population of its own that is recognized by any international body that can conduct referendum. They only rely on the population of Nigeria.

“So, it’s imperative and necessary for IPOB members to help in propagating the advocacy on census so  that the South East will have a successful census. Otherwise, whatever thing they are doing will be a failure.”

Identify Number, NIN would be accepted.

The NPC boss who hinted that the 2023 census would be conducted in the month of April, said that measures had been put in place for a credible exercise.

Asked if the exercise could be successfully held in an election year, the NPC boss assured that it would be a huge success.

On the method of enumeration during the exercise, Nwabuisi said only persons sighted physically would be enumerated, adding that no person (s) would be captured by proxy.

Responding to a question, the NPC boss, however, ruled out the option of electronic capturing during the exercise.

He said that the enumerators would feed the data they collect from the people into the commission’s data bank.

BIAFRA NEWS : Why we won’t release Kanu, FG tells Appeal Court

The Federal Government yesterday adduced reasons it has not obeyed the judgement of the Court of Appeal that ordered the release of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, from detention.

Government in a fresh affidavit filed before the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, maintained that Kanu posed a flight risk, insisting he would escape from the country as soon as he was freed from detention.

The affidavit was attached in support of an application seeking to stay the execution of the appellate court verdict that quashed the entire 15-count terrorism charge the federal government preferred against the embattled IPOB leader.

Arguing the application yesterday, an Assistant State Counsel in the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. David Kaswe, told the court that the case against Kanu bordered on national security.

Kaswe argued that Kanu’s fundamental rights should not supercede the interest of the nation.

Relying on the decided case law in Federal Republic of Nigeria Vs Asari Dokubo, the federal government argued that once a case touched on national security, the right of the individual affected took secondary place.

“It is important to appreciate the gamut of depositions in our application. The Respondent is a flight risk person and one of the ground of our application is that this matter touches on national security of the state.

“We further rely on the case of FRN Vs Dokubo, where the Supreme Court held that where national security is threatened or when there is likelihood of it being threatened, human rights take secondary place.

“Once there is a threat to national security, human rights of any individual can be suspended until such threat is taken care of.

“Once security of the nation is in jeopardy, the individual right may not even exist,” government’s lawyer argued.

Besides, he told the court that intelligence report in government’s possession indicated that releasing the IPOB leader from detention would worsen the security situation in the South East.

“The defendant has shown that he has the capacity to jump bail or to escape from lawful custody. There is reasonable intelligence that the enforcement of judgement of this court, pending determination of our appeal at the Supreme Court, may impact negatively on the declining security in the South East.

“No court can close its eyes on activities happening around it. As we speak, the entire social media is awash with threat to security in the country.

“We believe that there is an exceptional circumstance to warrant this court to grant our application.

“We urge this court to resolve the sole issue we raised and find our application meritorious, in the interest of justice and unity of the country,” federal government’s lawyer added.

However, Kanu’s lawyer,  Mike Ozekhome, SAN, urged the appellate court to dismiss FG’s application which he said was tantamount to seeking the stay of the liberty of a citizen.

Ozekhome argued that contrary to FG’s position, Kanu’s release from detention would guarantee peace in both the South East and the country

He said:  “In fact, my lords, on the contrary, the release of Kanu will actually bring peace and tranquility to the South East in particular and the nation in general

“This was demonstrated after the judgement of this court that ordered the release of the Respondent. Immediately the judgement was delivered, there was so much joy and happiness in the entire South East.  There was so much jubilation and merriment.”

He argued that Dokubo’s case was different from that of Kanu.

According him, while Dokubo applied to be granted bail, pending the determination of the charge against him, in Kanu’s case, the appellate court had already terminated his trial and ordered his release.

Relying on the case of Olisa Metuh Vs FRN, Kanu’s lawyer argued that the law forbade the grant of stay of execution in a criminal case.

He told the court that the IPOB leader did not jump bail, stressing that he only escaped from the country to save his life, after soldiers illegally invaded his house in 2017, in an operation that led to the death of 28 persons.

Ozekhome argued that the federal government, being in contempt of the judgement of the appellate court, could not approach it to seek any favourable order.

“They are already in contempt of order of this court. This application is therefore nothing but a slap on the face of this court,” he said.

After the three-man panel of justices of the appellate court, led by Justice Haruna Tsanami, had listened to both sides, it reserved its ruling till a date to be communicated to the parties.

Meanwhile, six Igbo traditional rulers yesterday stormed the court to demand the release of the detained IPOB leader.

The monarchs, who were all dressed in their regallia, said they were in court to show solidarity to their son, even as they stayed and observed the proceedings till the end.

The traditional rulers that were in court included HRM Eze  Innocent Nwaigwe, Secretary Umuahia North Council of Traditional Rulers; HRM, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, Chairman Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers; and HRM Eze Iheanyichukwu Ezigbo, Chairman Ibeku council. Others are HRM Eze Pastor Philip Ajomiwe, immediate past Chairman, Umuahia North Council; and HRM Eze Eddy Ibeabuchi, former Chairman Umuahia North Council and HRM Eze Ben Oriaku, Ikwuano LGA.

It will be recalled that the appellate court had in a judgement delivered on October 13, ordered Kanu’s release from detention, even as it terminated further proceedings on the case the federal government entered against him.

The court said it was satisfied that FG flagrantly violated all known laws when it forcibly rendered Kanu from Kenya to the country for continuation of his trial.

It held that such arbitrary use of power by the Nigerian government, divested the trial court of the jurisdiction to continue with Kanu’s trial.

Though FG had since gone to the Supreme Court to challenge the judgement, it, however, in line with the rules, it approached the Court of Appeal to seek a stay of execution of the verdict.

BIAFRA NEWS : Again, Court Adjourns Biafra Referendum Suit To Jan 27

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday, adjourned hearing on the suit filed by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) seeking a referendum to determine the fate of Biafran and other self-determination agitators, to January 27, 2023.

Recall that, CNG had in June 2021 dragged the National Assembly and the Attorney-General of the Federation to Court, asking the defendants to halt the ongoing constitutional review exercise and in its place, conduct a referendum to determine what constitutes Nigeria and who populates it.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who presided over the matter, granted all the motions to allow interested parties to be joined in the suit.

Counsel to CNG, Barrister Sufiyanu Gambo, while speaking with journalists after the adjournment, said the court had adjourned to 27 January for taking all the application to enable them have the processes and then respond appropriately.

In his reaction, the spokesperson of CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, lamented that the suit had suffered too many adjustments within a few months.

His words: “We feel the suit has suffered too many adjustments. It’s been dragging for about a year now without commencing hearing. But the delays are about process. The suit is developing into an interesting national issue and we’re confident the result would put all agitations to rest.

“We’re assured by the requests coming from parties seeking to be joined as defendants in the case. This testifies to the fact that after all, we at CNG have taken the necessary decision by taking this legal option for the resolution of the lingering crisis of trust that appears to be overwhelming all other previous options. However, the Ibom Nation People Movement counsel, Barrister Adesina Oke, who applied to join the application, disclosed that the Ibom nation agitators were also interested in self-determination.

“We’re are also confident that in the end the court, a temple of justice, would dispense justice appropriately in the interest of the future of Nigeria”.
